Couldn’t get a Portal; settled for Backbone which is very versatile and portable. Now I ended up getting a Steam Deck OLED that can do remote play to the PS5/4 and then some!
I’m going on a 8 hour road trip next month, would you suggest the portal with hotspot WiFi or the backbone? I was going to play the new NCAA football 25 and was wondering which one would be better to play on

Problem with BackBone is it’s use one iPhone is extremely limited. Nearly 0 app support, backbone app is bugged, iPhone control is blocked in vertical mode (which is Home Screen btw) …. Remote Play and a handful of apps is the only usage and for remote play you could connect eg a Xbox controller with an adapter. So the only reason to buy a backbone is if you need a portable controller for a handful of apps.
I call that big time BS for 2 Reasons: 1. Connection wise you can't have better connection because you gonna use your phone hotspot anyway outside home lol 2. Attach AR glasses to your phone and let me know if you still think Portal worth it 😂

Backbone is definitely convenient but it wasn’t worth the $100 I spent on it. Maybe $60 at most. I’d pay for the PS Portal but not at $200 , maybe $130-$150 the most
The reduce the Ps Portal to $150 and I’ll buy it, honestly is a little bit more than 2 controllers and you get to play your ps5 wherever you have internet. I was recently looking to buy a IPad anyway so if I get that before I’ll just use the remote play on that instead.
I love the backbone. I recently got an Xbox cloud gaming subscription n omg I love it. It works perfect on my galaxy a53 but better screen resolution on my galaxy s23 ultra n what I love from my galaxy phones is if it's not enough ram they will take some of the phones memory storage n use it as ram.

The ps portal ha stood formally factor and the ps5 controller but the frame rate probably can't keep up with new age phones.
I never could get my iPhone or iPad Pro to stream a successful remote play session from my ps5. It always lagged and lost connection, very unplayable. Got the Portal and it works, same internet connection and all, no lags, crisp clean smooth gaming every time all the time.
Id never buy the Backbone. Its just a £100 bluetooth controller, and pretty uncomfortable too. Ive been using remote play on my phone for almost 10 years, and Id use a Dualsense and a £10 cradle to snap my phone to the controller. Now I have a Portal and is easilly the best remote play experience Ive ever had.

When it works, it works wonderfully. On the other hand, BackBone offers me the ability to play all my favorite retros (PSX, PSP, PS2, GBA, NDS) on a cheap phone (Infinix Note 30 Pro), plus other controller compatible android games. It's just too bad my region is not supported for Xbox Game Pass.

I have the backbone and It's uncomfortable to play and I really don't do well when I use it. Sometimes my hand even goes numb. It is much more portable but to be honest I wished I got the portal now just for the comfortability
Wasn’t mentioned here but steam deck! I don’t want my phone battery dying or a streaming only device. Also, if I want hdr streaming from ps5 the steam deck can do just that, the others can’t

I have the portal I think I’d rather use that bc some games on yur phone cause the phone itself to overheat so why not just a get an accessory for your ps5 and not not have to worry about that or even if you get a phone call you can still use your phone and not interrupt what you’re doing
I believe this is to do with the refresh rate on the Portal which is less than 60hz (most modern smartphones have an adaptive 60hz+ display) which causes micro-stuttering.

Portal only makes sense if you're only going to play PlayStation games and if the lack of features like Bluetooth doesn't bother you. If you plan to play anything besides PlayStation games and if you're not a fan of missing features like Bluetooth then the Backbone makes way more sense especially if you have a decently powerful phone.

The only thing not mentioned is the comfort difference. If you like the feeling of a ps5 controller, the portal will be more comfortable for long time gaming sessions, whereas the backbone will give you that switch claw grip hand ache.
Backbone is better because with backbone you can actually play streaming games also, whereas portal you can’t. Also when in offline mode you can play mobile games on device. Also with Backbone you can stream outside because your phone already has a connection. Portal doesn’t even have a web browser to connect to public networks. Portal makes so little sense, like why does it have airplane mode???

The portal is absolutely amazing when people want to watch tv I just play the portal. Unplug hdmi on the ps5 and super fast no lag. Just got the new Sony ear buds yesterday and they are a game changer talk about great gaming experience 🎉🎉

My only issue with the Portal is the inability to play cloud and without having to remote in. Could have had downloaded games. And what’s up with blocking the Bluetooth to only work with their earbuds? Maybe if it was $150 or less I’d consider it. Backbone is also over priced. It should be $50. I own the backbone since day one. I just hate that I’ll have to buy another one when I update my iPhone.

I feel like games just stream better on the phone. Loke just get better connection. The ps portal will lose signal very fast if you takeiterally just one step away from your router. Just testing between the two, my phone had a much more steady and clear connection from the same room compared to the portal
This technology came out too early while we don’t have a stable network because once it’s braking connections the games lag so hard and disconnected right away and it’s so annoying and unplayable
You forgot the differences in connectivity. The PS Portal has to have a stable and decent Wi-Fi connection while the Backbone can use mobile data, but can drive up your phone bill depending on the data plan you have.
Most carriers offer unlimited data. I have unlimited with spectrum and use to with Verizon. I went with the backbone Xbox version for my galaxy S24 ultra

You forgot the differences in connectivity. The PS Portal has to have a stable and decent Wi-Fi connection while the Backbone can use mobile data, but can drive up your phone bill depending on the data plan you have.
Most carriers offer unlimited data. I have unlimited with spectrum and use to with Verizon. I went with the backbone Xbox version for my galaxy S24 ultra
I genuinely can’t see why anyone would actually want to buy the PlayStation Portal unless they’re a collector or something. Because this is quite literally just a Wii U gamepad for the PS5

I had a back bone and it was so janky. Required adapter for larger phones. I have the Portal and its so much better than the Internet says.
I just ordered an open box backbone for iPhone on eBay for $35. No contest backbone wins
Backbone does more plus you can use Bluetooth earpods
Also the Backbone is now $50, and comes with a $25 PlayStation card.
Honestly, I have trouble using both wired and Bluetooth buds. Often the volume still comes through the speaker instead of the buds.

Backbone lets me get to use nvidia gforce now. I run max graphics/framerate on cyberpunk with a 12promax.
I have the Xbox Backbone. Do you have to have a PlayStation and use it like the Portal? I prefer PlayStation always but ehh maybe i trade it. Portal or basically streaming games and on the go but the Portal must stay in close approximate to the PS5
