Pokemon XD for me. I used to play it for the better part of the day, when I was alone. Then I'd shut it off at night when is when my sprm donor arrived.
6:59 To add to your comment, the fact the chosen starters are an Espeon and Umbreon also provide some characterization to Wes. Since both evolve due to friendship, that means that unlike many of his cohorts, Wes cares a lot about the Pokemon with him, and is probably what drove him to break free with the organization. Let’s just ignore that Colosseum is the only way to get both Espeon and Umbreon due to the Gen 3 games not having a day/night cycle
I remember playing colosseum on the couch, laying down, relaxin to the vibes. I'd make a move, fall asleep for a couple minutes, wake up, make another move, rinse repeat. One of the greatest gaming experiences of my life. So fun and chill
Coliseum and gale of darkness are some of my favorite pokemon games. With the aspect I enjoy the most about them being that they truly feel like you we’re playing something you could have seen in the anime. Would be cool if they brought this style of gameplay to one of the newer games, tbh.
Yep we need something like this or gale of darkness again. The modern Pokemon games feel so cheap and lazily made. It's crazy because they have so much money they could make something so amazing.
It's funny because for me it feels like the opposite - I love Colosseum because it _doesn't_ feel like the anime. You're not just a generic ~10-year-old going through a region and collecting badges, you're an older character with a bit of a backstory.
Legends Arceus is kind of like a high investment spin off. I think XD is overall much better than colosseum though it is more of an obvious sequel and not as innovative. I wish they’d make a showdown style battle simulator with full on pokemon graphics etc. I’d pay like $20/month for it cause I don’t have time to grind out full teams or play through a story mode
Pokemon Colosseum is so underrated and means alot to me personally. I have so many memories with this game and it really helped me during a depressing time in my life. I listen to the ost with my son now all the time and I'm glad I have someone to make new memories with.
I haven't played Colosseum or XD in years, but if I remember anything about them beyond the immediately obvious, it was being impressed by the thought put into the boss fights. Stuff like the Protect+Earthquake strat or Skill Swap with Slaking are complex strategies you just don't find in mainline titles. I think the most complex strategy any boss fight used in this era for a mainline title is Flannery using Sunny Day and having a White Herb on her Torkoal that spams Overheat. This is the game that got me to think about the battle system on a deeper level and I probably owe my appreciation for the battle system largely to it.
Loved your video man. This game also has a unique shiny hunting mechanic, and many of the pokémon have different color schemes in their shiny form compared to the main line games. For example, Shiny Quilava has green flames; or shiny Suicune has a black mane. I would love to see you do an XD video. The way you format is really clean, and honestly between all the AI crap it's so refreshing to see this style of video done by an actual human being. Thank you for this love letter you made in honor of Colosseum!
I hope I didn’t ruin LOL. I had started watching the video but clicked Save to Watch Later because I needed to do something else at that moment… but here I am! I’m back to finish watching! 😂
Thanks for keeping me entertained during a long train ride! Loved this game so much when I was younger and I am amazed I managed to 100% the game before I learned English and had to guess my way through most of it.
I wish Pokémon would have continued in this style of gaming, Colosseum & XD were part of my childhood, and both had great gameplay and story. I wish Pokémon would go back to this man.
What a blast from the past. I remember getting stuck after the first fight against miror B and arriving in the celebi area. Now I finally know what happens! Great video, easy to listen to! both the script and your chill voice. Thank you for making this
20:25 Plusle is Colosseum's secret weapon though. Attack the XP Share to it and let it run around in the background until it level catches up. Then Helping Hand becomes amazing to boost Suicune's Surf while that one holds the Mystic Water with Rain Dance boost.
Actually you don't even need to level Plusle up. The AI always goes for KOs (therefore guaranteed to target Plusle) so put Protect + Helping Hand on Plusle and you're guaranteed 2 good turns even with 40 level disadvantage 🤣
I bought XD back in 2010 and forgot about it. Not too long ago, I found it in storage and decided to play it. Never played Colosseum, but boy am I glad I tried XD. These games were definitely different, and as you explained, the limited Pokemon selection sort of forces you to create your own strategies, and adds a more personable experience to your team. The music, characters and locations were really memorable as well. Great vid! Also, sending your Pokemon to the newer games, and seeing the national and earth ribbon, along with the "Arrived from a distant land" obedience tag is pretty surreal.
I remember setting my alarm for school (4th grade) 30 minutes early after I got this for my birthday and played it every morning. I absolutely love Pokémon colosseum and XD. Great video.
love these long format videos dude! you narration style, editing, injections of humor, such a great vibe for my saturday morning. looking forward to your future vids :)
Man, I remember trading in Sonic Advance 3 for this game thinking it was just Stadium 3 and would have minigames and stadium mode and whatnot. I was disappointed at first, but it definitely became my favorite over time. The whole atmosphere has never been matched by any other game in the series, and fan games haven't come close either because they either go too dark and edgy, or they miss the mark and end up campy like XD. The music is also unmatched. Masuda's tunes are great and all, and very iconic; but Tsukasa Tawada's music is just godly. Love the rock/western themes in the music. Also, the first time I saw the "Save 'em all" ad was YTV during The Zone ad segments.
I had the pleasure of doing a 12-vs-12 double battle with three other gen-3 enjoyers each with our own GBA (with a GCN as the host) at a found-family friends meetup. None of us were at the same level with teams, it was very chaotic, a lot to set up, but very much worth it to say we've experienced it! The Orre series and Battle Rev games are something magical!
@@thecamobot It's very wonderful to see people still care about older video games, since they're art after all! Thank you for this video, I very much enjoyed it!!
Dude I love Pokemon Colosseum and XD was pretty good too. The art style to me is much better than the newest Pokemon releases (sword and shield/scarlet). The intro goes hard, like a Pokemon game's intro should!
Are you kidding me bro? Shadow Rush in Hyper Mode is super powerful, it gets a 95% crit rate, and base 90 power is a lot more than most moves Pokemon get access to in this game
Everything about this game was unique and definitely one of my favorites growing up, and maybe even of all time, just because of the concept, as well as how excellent the environments and music were. I still throw on a jam from this from time to time
Pokémon Colosseum is my favorite title to this day. Spent HOURS playing this game that my dad rented from Blockbuster lol. He should've just bought it for me cause he paid a lot of late return fees by the time I was done. What a beautiful time to have grown up in.
I fell for that "time flute only" thing as a kid too, it was a very tough game for me as a kid, forced me to use umbreon, espeon, and plusle to get EXP to even stand a chance at the end game. (with a flute being used on entei because of the movie I watched as a kid)
When I was young and could not read English i got stuck in Pyrite town for over a month Just batteling trainers. By the time i got to purify my pokemon they were all above 50 😂
Great video! I loved this game. While there are some things that I wish were more streamlined, like purifying all the Shadow Pokemon, the entire story mode feels pretty unique for the Pokemon series which makes me appreciate it.
I'm still bewildered about how little subscribers this channel has. The quality & the numbers just aren't adding up 😅 You deserve so much more & I can't imagine you not having [more] success if you just keep at it! Love your vids, man!
I was too poor to have a GameCube and colosseum but luckily my cousin had both. I remember pretending to like him just so I could play this game in all its 3d pokemon glory.
This game was and still is a masterpiece IMO. Still have both my copies of Colosseum and XD! Wish they would do another one similar to them on current gen or next gen switch. and not just like the main line pokemon games
Coliseum really is unique for Pokemon games. It might be difficult to really appreciate today since the GBA generation is long past but it's a game I wish could get rereleased or a much needed modern sequel. XD was great in its own way, but in terms of tone, immersion, and enjoyment I have to give it to Coliseum
I remember playing this game when I was a teenager. I specifically leveled Espeon and Plusle to level 100 😂. They were my main heavy hitters just because I loved them.
Amazing video mate! Gen 3 was the first time I really tried to catch them all! I spent so many hours on this and XD. REALLY excited to see you tease Tales Of Symphonia there at the end! As my channel shows, I'm kind of a fan!
i remember, back when i first played Colosseum, getting the plusle and wondering why it was low level. unlocking mt. battle and seeing how low the enemies start there and thinking "ah, this must be how i bring plusle on par with the rest of my team.". in the end i ended up sweeping mt. battle until i reached stage 100 with only plusle and entei where i got wiped since the rest of my team wasn't leveling along.
I remember exploiting the infinite poke ball glitch because I was so strapped for cash when I was kid playing this game. Literally half of the catchable mons from this game in my Pokemon Home were caught with master balls 💀
Mantine with "Water Absorb", Jumpluff for status conditions, Altaria with Fly/Dragonbreath, Flygon with Earthqake. Flygon can spam EQ while never hitting team members. Another water-type can constantly restore Mantine's HP. I've beaten the game several times with these mons. You can re-battle the trainers in the Pyrite square.
I loved this game, though I do remember getting lost for a week because I failed to see a shining spot on the ground that was the key I needed to proceed. Time to give this game another play.
Is it though? I mean, XD is technically in Orre and has shadow pokemon, but the vibe is completely different. XD was very much campy and more kid-friendly than Colosseum was.
@@PnkRkTch I’d say the vibe is marginally different. I wouldn’t say that XD is more “kiddy” or “campy”, but it definitely feels like its presentation was more safe and corporately homogenized to the greater Pokémon brand.
52:30 Fun Fact: Fein's Team consists of the replacement Pokemon the Cipher Admins and Gonzap use in place of their Shadow Pokémon after you snag them (excluding his Shadow Togetic). Miror B.'s Armaldo replaced his Sudowoodo. Dakim's Houndoom replaced his Entei. Venus's Milotic replaced her Suicune. Ein's Manectric replaced his Raikou. And Gonzap's Gyarados replaced his Skarmory.
Something I appreciate about Colosseum is the length of it, XD Gale of Darkness felt very long and it grew tiresome, Colosseum feels like the perfect length for what it is!
You bet that I miss the Stadium minigames on the Gamecube, it was one of the things I enjoyed a lot besides all the battling. I still play these games from time to time with friends. That said, Colosseum always will be a special game with a special place in my heart ^-^ And ngl, the theme played by Celebi's shrine tears me up from time to time, it feels so peaceful and special to me
Those of you who didn't experience the cube with the colosseum or XD, I will tell you it was something definitely special, yet short-lived. Very bittersweet memories that I wish others who were not fortunate enough to experience could have.
Pokèmon Colosseum brought a new and fresh perspective to the series "aside from Double Battles" and that's Shadow Pokèmon, combined with the Snag mechanic. To me what it has to be my favorite thing out of the entire game is both the atmosphere and soundtrack, loved Orre at first sight not to mention that it has my favorite place and soundtrack in all of Colosseum and that's The Under, though i was sad to know that it didn't reappeared in XD. If anything i wish that both games got re-released for the Switch but with Gamefreak's refuse of not wanting to do so it will remain as nothing but a dream.
Great video! Colosseum was a game changer for me as a kid! Wes was so freakin cool and starting with Espeon and Umbreon? The two Eeveelutions that you probably couldnt get unless you had friends or a way to trade your eevee from FRLG to RSE? My kid brain could barely contain my excitement when I first put that disc in my gamecube and that first battle started. These days you have to look outside of Pokemon if you want a challenging 3D RPG with edgy visuals and a dark story. The game is made all the more special by the fact that Pokemon wont venture into this type of formula change anymore.
I like Stantler a regular amount lol I used one when I did some Mt. Battle grinding for coupons (I didn't want to use my main team for this grind to not over level them). Anyway, Stantler isn't too bad. It's got decent attacking stats (for single player), a great movepool compared to some of the other Johtomons, and an incredibly solid ability in Intimidate. I'd use a variety of different moves on it without investing too much into it (since the one use TM's it could learn were reserved for my actual team), so I remember its moveset being Take Down/Thunder/Calm Mind (previously Light Screen)/Confuse Ray by the end of the grind, as it paired well with my Rain Dance Feraligatr I wasn't using on my main team. I think with a more proper TM investment, it could definitely pull its weight if you're playing through the main story with it. Great video - was really nice hearing someone not completely bash the game, but also not completely fanboy over it. You had a lot of great points, and it made for a nice watch/listen.
Black and White were made for older audiences as well. They and their sequels were the last truly great pokemon games in my opinion. I still play, and have since the originals came out, but those were the pinnacle in my opinion. RSE slapped too though.
The legacy of kain remaster that is coming out in December would be great content for you to cover. You have great videos that are very well put together and I think alot of the 300k+ people in a group I follow would definitely love your content.
Honestly Colosseum and XD together truly make up some of the best games in the franchise but they do have their flaws. Colosseum for all its uniqueness still played it mostly safe as a story and i just think thats how pokemon will always be developed. But as a kid playing colosseum was amazing ill always remember trying to catch the legendary dogs and truly being surprised by whichever pokemon id run into or catch next
I'm crying. This was basically the 1st game i played on console. Wes basically inspired how i dress nowadays, lol. I always thought his outfit was so cool. i think it's been 20 or 21 years since then, I'm 26 now. 😭
Pkmn Colosseum saved me from an abusive childhood. My gamecube was my only solace. Pkmn Colosseum and XD changed my life.

Let’s just ignore that Colosseum is the only way to get both Espeon and Umbreon due to the Gen 3 games not having a day/night cycle
RSE actually has day/night if you have a working battery but not Eevee lol
@ Suppose that’s what I mean, though didn’t know they had a day/night cycle to begin with
@bubblesofthecoast6393 it's also backwards due to a programing bug so Espeon evolves at night and Umbreon during the day.
And if I remember correctly, Espeon starts with max happiness and knows Return (so the move's power is 102 due to that).
@ yup you’d be right. Ofc Espeon is a special attacker, but early on, that Return hits fairly hard
I remember playing colosseum on the couch, laying down, relaxin to the vibes. I'd make a move, fall asleep for a couple minutes, wake up, make another move, rinse repeat.

Something I appreciate about Colosseum is the length of it, XD Gale of Darkness felt very long and it grew tiresome, Colosseum feels like the perfect length for what it is!
I loved the music from this game. Mount Battle was an amazing challenge.
Started playing this again on my Steam Deck and named Rui/the NPC partner Legolas; that way, I can ask her what her elf eyes see.
You bet that I miss the Stadium minigames on the Gamecube, it was one of the things I enjoyed a lot besides all the battling.
I still play these games from time to time with friends.
That said, Colosseum always will be a special game with a special place in my heart ^-^
And ngl, the theme played by Celebi's shrine tears me up from time to time, it feels so peaceful and special to me
37:31 Jumpluff is mad slept on
Thank you for bringing Typhlosion with you. c:
i’ve always wanted coliseum and XD so bad when i was younger. i hope one day i get to play them those two again!
I really want them to revisit the plots they had in these games.. Like it was so iconic
When I was a kid we had 12v12 at the daycare i went to. Those were some of the best memories.
Dayum this took me back. I will never forget killing suicune in the factory😭 this game was truly unmatched at its time!
Those of you who didn't experience the cube with the colosseum or XD, I will tell you it was something definitely special, yet short-lived. Very bittersweet memories that I wish others who were not fortunate enough to experience could have.
They are never going to make a madlad like Wes again
The recoil to death is the worst!! XD is a lot easier in that way
I like Stantler a regular amount lol I used one when I did some Mt.
The big thing I struggled with in coliseum was finding a way to nuzelock the game in a satisfying way
Great video! Shiny hunting Bulbasaur rn on my GC GBA Player. Found myself making jokes and laughing along with such relatable takes
@@CrowMaann I've never tried those games but wanted to, I'll definitely consider it 🙂
Honestly Colosseum and XD together truly make up some of the best games in the franchise but they do have their flaws. Colosseum for all its uniqueness still played it mostly safe as a story and i just think thats how pokemon will always be developed. But as a kid playing colosseum was amazing ill always remember trying to catch the legendary dogs and truly being surprised by whichever pokemon id run into or catch next
Probably the best Pokemon game ever... that´s why some of us still play and upload stuff about it
I'm crying. This was basically the 1st game i played on console. Wes basically inspired how i dress nowadays, lol. I always thought his outfit was so cool. i think it's been 20 or 21 years since then, I'm 26 now. 😭
I love this game so much. I think I played it 3 and a half times lol
didn't even watch the video yet but had to drop the like just cause i couldn't agree more with the title
