When my oldest son was around 18 months old, we used to play a game called Myst, a very surreal and reality based problem solving game, that had ambient music like this playing in the background. One day, we were playing while the baby slept (computer was in the nursery) and we turned around to see our oldest, then maybe a year, year and a half standing at the crib rail, looking intently at the screen as we played. His first exposure to the ambient textures of sound and he was enthralled and inquisitive. Brings back great memories...thank you.

listening to this music now at 4am makes me feel something I can't describe exactly, like an urge to be able to explore the space or to behold something very massive, I don't know the exact words to describe it, but it is a very uncanny feeling, I guess is kind of the same feeling I get from reading or watching cosmic horror, it feels like a primal fear or amazement for something not meant to be seen by a small human in the currrent age

At least once in your life, go to the darkest place you can reasonably go to, away from any city lights, during a New Moon, at a time of year when the Milky Way's core is visible (from around April to August), and let your eyes adjust to the darkness.
The experience cannot be properly described through words. All I can say is that there is nothing more unfathomably grand one can possibly behold.
I will forever be awestruck and continue to marvel at the beauty of our universe.

“Exit plus twelve,” Axford said. “Image corrected for both wake distortion and relativistic effects. After twelve hours, Avenger was moving at fifty per cent of the speed of light.”
Not just three branches of the Structure now, but an entire intertwined mass of them, dozens of them. There was no geometric order that Bella could discern: it looked as if they’d been tossed into space in random configurations, like a magnification of one microscopic part of a child’s demented scribble.
“Exit plus twenty-four,” Axford said, “one day out. By this point the signal was very difficult to intercept. Useful frame rate was down.”
Bella shuddered at the jump in scale. A twig had turned into an entire forest. Individual filaments of the Structure were less obvious now than the gross organisation of those filaments on a much larger scale. It had looked random at twelve hours, but now she could see that the filaments were indeed ordered, bunched and braided into macroscopic, ropelike groupings that must have been entire light-hours across, wider than the orbits of some planets.
“Exit plus thirty-nine hours, the last useful image. Avenger was at ninety per cent of the speed of light and holding, prior to final acceleration boost.”
The window filled with something twinkling and vast, something engineered - so it seemed to Bella - for the sole purpose of crushing the human spirit. She wanted Axford to hold her, so that she did not fall into that paralysing, deadening immensity. The Structure was far, far larger than she had ever imagined: as complex in its knotted, neural topology as a mind, as wide across as an entire planetary system. It was a torus of light, tilted at an angle of forty-five degrees so that its shape was suddenly revealed. It was only at thirty-nine hours that Avenger had managed to grab an image that encompassed most of the Structure.
“Look at the middle,” Axford said.
Bella complied. Many spokes of light -each of which was a thick braid formed from hundreds of individual strands - pushed inward from the inner face of the torus, as if they were meant to connect with each other, or form a bridge to some other knot of strands in the middle of the torus.
But there was nothing there. The braids splayed apart, ragged as the branches of a lightning-struck tree.
“Something’s missing,” Bella said. “It looks as if it isn’t finished.”
“Or it was finished but something was destroyed. Perhaps that’s the answer to the question, Bella.”
    “The question?”
“About where the Spicans went. Perhaps the animals revolted, and stormed the zoo.”
From: "Pushing Ice", Alastair Reynolds, 2005

Tomorrow is a hope, a brighter future awaits us.
Do not despair, for you shall be a child of the stars and when you are you can explore the endless possibilities of space, time, and the fabric of space.
You need only to believe. Believe in yourself, believe in others, believe in a brighter tomorrow.
The Vast Expanse can wait for us, it has since they day we were born. Dont rush to see tomorrow, tomorrow will come regardless.

Dropped my star off at the stellar nursery this morning. He said, 'When will I see you again?' I told him in about half a million years. He seemed fine with that. I think he's going to turn out very bright.
