This is why you leave the relief valve in the fuel rail. Your injectors are most likely fine S&S and DDP use a blue band seal I believe that are rated for about 32k psi. The stock LB7-LLY FRPS is rated for about 26k psi. You are most likely running max rail pressure at idle. I have had this happen many times at the shop. Knowing you are running a dual Pump kit you need make sure you are getting voltage to the FCA. Use a multi meter on the factory FCA harness it works on a 5V reference. The more voltage the less rail pressure. If you are running at full 5V when you prove the FCA plug off the original harness that means the ECM is doing everything it can to bring down rail pressure. If you are only getting .5-1V the ECM is not detecting the high rail pressure which can be a wiring issue to the rail pressure sensor. Your top pump is working off the PPE dual pump box. Those CP3 pump controllers go bad all the time. Make sure your getting voltage out of the box into your second CP3 pump. If all wiring is good make sure all your return fuel lines are Plumbed correctly. If you have a restriction in the return line it will mechanically push the FCA open causing a Max Rail scenario. Rule of thumb on Cummins and Duramax with the Common rail injection system is you always want the return double the size of the feed. You are hearing the knock because the injectors are getting fed way too much fuel for the pulse width that you are commanding at idle. Now here is where the EFI live comes into play. In a file in FCA mA (milliamps) table the more rpm it has the less mA you will see. Usually we like to multiply the entire FCA table by 1.8-2.1 to calm down both pumps at idle. That’s why when you give the pump more voltage it will give the truck less fuel. The less voltage the more fuel it has. Seen this 100 times on a duramax and fought a issue like this for a year on a cummins. The truck sat for a YEAR in my shop. On the Duramax on the older style rail pressure sensors you can flip the plug so it WILL plug in both ways I’ve seen that happen also and it causes max rail. If your lift pump pressure is too high it will also push the FCA wide open just like if you have a blocked off return. That’s why the truck cranked for so long as well because it has no rail pressure reading it was trying to go to max rail and that takes a lot of rpm. I sent you a DM on Instagram I own a shop. I’m 100% willing to help you for free and get you on the road, this is nothing that you can’t fix in your garage.
Just had my LMM rebuilt three weeks ago. I was told "do not let it idle". Ran it hard for 500 miles and did the first oil change. My bank account is empty now but my truck is back on the road.
You'll be very happy with the PPE oil pan! I changed mine and I can't believe how much cleaner the oil stays! Because of the flat bottom surface you can actually drain all the oil out and change all of the oil.
Reduce the pressure on your lift pump, that’ll resolve the issue with rail pressure. My LB7 had that issue with the air dog II 165, dropped (cut)a coil off the pressure spring to get the pressure down. Brought it for 22k psi to 4900 psi
Obviously your checking your cp3 mprop connectors but just in case they are plugged in check to make sure your dual filter box has power I had same one and fuse blew and rail pressure went to 26k just like if it was fca/ mprop was unplugged. Last but not least check your low pressure fuel from the air dog I know they say they are preset but I have had three of them be wrong right out of box. If that big 220 air dog is making more then 12 lbs it will push mprop open and you get high rail pressure. You were maxed out so I’m leaning towards you didnt connect the fca connector on one of them or the dual fueler box is not powered up. You will get it you always do
