  • Reading & Northern T-1 2102 led this final Fall Foliage excursion of the 2022 season. Footage begins on the outbound trip in Port Clinton and ends just after Haucks on the return. The 12 car consist was pulled unassisted both ways which made for some impressive sights and sounds.
    Anyone that has the chance to visit during one of RBMN's steam trips should go out of their way to do so since there are so few places left you can go to see such a large engine work like this. What a spectacular show these guys put on.

    Reading & Northern is one of the only rail lines I've seen that still gives passengers an old-fashioned "fast start" with their trains. Most tourist runs just ease out of the stations and slowly work their way up to speed. The crew clearly has confidence in their engines and know what they can handle. Amazing footage!

    Fantastic video Ive always preferred from the train videos than on the lineside. Return trip was fantastic and my favorite engineman was at the throttle on the return trip on this day. So its my favorite part of the video. Thanks for posting and sharing its like taking the ride yourself. Nobody but nobody beats a R&N trip! Andys run the best steam operation since the 1980s on his BM&R lines and on Conrail to the present Reading & Northern. The R&N runs steam just like the old days and Mullers operation has always mirrored the old days of steam very well. His Rambles have been as close as anyone will ever get to the Reading Company Iron Horse Rambles or Autumn Leaf Rambles. The R&N is the closest anyone today will ever taste of the Reading Company in customer service and satisfaction too. We all miss the Reading Company or at least those who knew it and it was THE best Company to work for or to be a customer of it. The likes of a good Company like that sadly, will never ever be seen AGAIN......

    Awesome video! You had a good seat where you were close enough to 2102 to capture the sounds, but far enough back to get a good look around the turns. You caught me on the climb out of Nesquehoning; I'm the one in the light blue shirt at 42:12. I did a full chase that day, but was mostly on the other side of the train.

    Why don't steam engines have dynamic breaking technology?

    • @TravisDGordon
      @TravisDGordon Год назад +5

      Dynamic braking is an electronic brake that uses a locomotive’s traction motors against the direction the train is going. Steam locomotives don’t have traction motors, so there isn’t a feasible way to install dynamics on one.

      There is something similar though, back pressuring the cylinders provides a way to stop but is not very effective and is not recommended.

      They arent electric! Now you can put the valve gear in reverse and then apply some steam lightly to the cylinders and it will slow you down but its hard on the valve gear and running gear nor is it recommended..........
