  • A 4 day trip staying at Trappers Lake Lodge in the cabins and fly fishing for native, trophy size Colorado River Cutthroat trout and stream side brookies.
    Trappers Lake is quite possibly the most beautiful place on earth for fly fishing. This is a documented journey with my two best pals - Andres and Jonny...
    You’ll find a nice route(s) to the lake and some of the tributaries to fish that run in.
    Note: You cannot fish within 100 ft of the inlets or outlet stream, nor can you fish upstream or downstream 1/4 mile from Trappers.
    If you don’t mind a 5 hour drive and some hiking, this lake is more epic than (most) of Rocky National Park.
    Please help us conserve this beautiful place and CLEAN UP your trash and OTHERS’!

    This helps support all the adventures, gas, editing time and supplies to provide you all with more wonderful places to find and fly fish.

    I grew up on the south fork of the White River. We ranched almost the entire south fork valley up to the south fork camp ground. We had to sell the ranch when my dad died, and now it’s all subdivided up into estates for very wealthy people.
    I was injured and paralyzed when a drunk driver jumped the curb when I was down in Craig getting groceries and supplies. I haven’t been able to go back ever since.
    At one time my parents owned the lodge up at Trappers. That was long before the old lodge burned down. One of our guests was western novel writer Zane Gray. That was before I was born, but Mom and dad remembered it.
    When I was old enough, my parents got me a job helping the DoW folks collect eggs and sperm from the trout starting theirspawnib

      Your history has me mesmerized. I have the fondest memories of Trappers and that whole area; it’s quite literally the best place on earth IMO. I love it there and always will. Thanks for your comment here; I feel especially honored.

      My family used to stay at the Cabins every summer for a week at a time. This one during the 80s mostly. I remember during that time the owner was named 'Red'. And his wife made Legendary Pies! Some of the most fond memories of my childhood was coming up to Trappers every summer

    Back in the 1960s, I used to go fishing at Trappers with my family. My older sister and I would rent horses from down the way. we would ride them up higher into the back mountains along what was basically a deer trail filled with downed timver and steep drop offs. But, after a 3 hour ride, we found ourselves at Coffin lake. If you get the chance, fish there!

      Yessir although we found Coffin lake many times, it sits directly next to Trappers. Never had any luck there…we typically fish it in the way up the stream

      Much appreciate your comments Evan. I hope you’re able to get in there soon. My wife and I were there about 4 weeks ago and it was splendid fishing and scenery. The FlatTops is truly a living, natural work of beautiful art

    This was one of the best fishing excursions I've taken. Hard fishing, but that makes a catch all the more sweet.
    Fishing the entire circumference of the lake in one day was quite an adventure. I still have a few bumps, bruises and scrapes from that to remind me how awesome it was.
    Matt and Andres are my best buds and what a trip this was. Many thanks to Matt for taking the time to film all of this and publish it. He's taught me just about all I know about fly fishing. One of the best fishermen in CO for sure. HAND!

    Man, what a great adventure! I love that area, and hoping to visit later this Summer with my family. Your videos are always so informative and entertaining. These kinda trips with friends are memories that last a lifetime, and you captured the whole adventure perfectly (lots of up, and of course a few struggles, detours, tired legs and sore feet, etc etc). Thank you for sharing!! dan

      Awesome it was my friend! You’re gonna have a blast fishing this lake with your family. If you need some tips on where to fish it, you let me know. There is a recipe depending on conditions and time of day as to where the best spots are to fish it. I learned this from fishing it all through the 90s and I had a friend who worked for DOW at the lake! He used scuba gear and recorded fish populations and other info. At the time, getting rid of all the Brookies was paramount. You can email me if you like: mattfugazzi@yahoo.com....Take care Dan

      Colorado River Cutts: this is THE place for the most scenic and largest of our Native Cutts. I’ve fished this lake since my childhood; and there’s no place I like more... :)

    Saw this and had to immediately click! I love the Flattops. My mom grew up in Yampa. My Grandfather lived there my whole life till he passed a few years ago. First place I cast a fly was Bear Lake as a 7 or 8 year old kid! Anyways great video, great edit, my favorite of yours so far.

    What do you use there ?

    • @TroutSoup1
      @TroutSoup1  4 года назад +2

      @Nick Putz Oh geez I’m so sorry Nick; somehow I never did see your question? I’m using a dry-dropper setup - a two fly tandem rig. My dry is almost always my black mayfly dun (size 16); the second fly or dropper is either a midge emerger or (mostly) a second SMALLER dry in a size 18-20. Most of the flies I’ve been using lately are dressed in purple or have some sort of purple in them. Hope this helps!

  • @lucianosilvestri8561
    @lucianosilvestri8561 3 года назад +1

    what were your fly choices for the dropper?

    • @TroutSoup1
      @TroutSoup1  3 года назад

      Hey buddy,, I tie some droppers this past season in purple. So they’re a lot like the Poison Blue Tongue, except in purple!
