There's a method that they use for prosthetics that would probably work for this that would be wayyyyy cheaper. You slowly heat lexan/plexiglass in the oven and then you drape it over the shape once it's pliable. I'm definitely going to try it, because I think it would work very similarly to vacuum forming for basically free.
@@chadwickbikerboy09 that would probably work really well too! You'd definitely need something that could withstand the heat. I was thinking maybe ABS. Either that or I'd need something made for me. Although I might be able to pick up some silicone molds for cheap.
@@dgcrago my original thought was to just print the eyes. Then either use uv resin to smooth, or just sanding smooth and possibly painting just to get a gloss surface, then casting in silicone and then pouring the eyes out of tinted epoxy and then just polishing. But I’m not 100% sure if that will work out as well as I think
Solution to the vacuum former, make a box using 2 2'x2' plywood hobby sheets and some trim or dim.-lumber and drill 1/8" to 1/4" holes into the top sheet. Attach a vacuum by drilling a hole in the side either big enough to fit your vac. or to fit a vac. attachment. Then cut a PET or PLA bottle up and form into sheets for forming. Once you need to use the former, heat up your plastic with a hair dryer, grill, torch, etc. and quickly press the plastic over the casting form and former base.
That is the most accurate green goblin diy I’ve ever seen and it proves with patience and thinking along with testing/ experimenting like you you can accomplish great things and you inspire me to do great things like these. So I’m other words thank you for sharing your vision🔥🔥
I've had this video on loop the last 4 days while doing homework because it's relaxing and never gets boring, great work Frank. I'm currently making a Scarlet Spider helmet using the big eye helmet from Do3D, but I'm still trying to come up with ideas on how to make the lenses since the eye slots are so big and rounded.
I've had a DO3d goblin helmet fully printed and glued for MONTHS just sitting around because it's too hot to go outside and sand. It's finally cooling down enough to get back out there and finish the helmet so thanks for all the tips!
Great video man! It's funny, I actually used the EXACT same Testor's color-shift paint in the green-copper color in my own goblin mask build. The 'copper' comes out more purple than you think!
Hey! That vacuforming turned out great, Frank! Excellent work! I’m currently using your motorizing tutorial to put helper arms in a war machine helmet right now. I’m walking away from it for the day lol.
I just like listening to you talk about 3d printing. I don't have a 3d printer, but my friend does and he's not nearly passionate about 3d printing as you
Thanks for this tutorial! Having printed both versions of the Green Goblin helmet as one of my first big projects, the eyes and the paintjob were the hardest things for me to figure out.
ALSO IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD SPRAY PAINT WALMART SELLS A GREEN TO GOLD COLOR SHIFT ACRYLIC PAINT IN THE CRAFT SECTION I USED IT FOR MINE. Also what a lot of people don't know about the green goblin helmet is it also had yellow lights in the eyes that were used in a couple of night time filming scenes with the green goblin if you can catch those particular scenes from the film
Have you ever considered tinting lenses and visors using these dye packets? From what I've seen they are superb for tinting curved and other complex surfaces! A little pricier and more work, sure, but well worth it in the long run!
I got my first 3D Printer (Ender 3) for Christmas, and have been loving playing with it. I have been working my way through all your videos and learn something new with each one. This is probably my favorite so far (I was a huge Raimi Spidey fan as a kid - and still am now!) and I hope to work my way up to being able to make something half as awesome as this! Thanks for all you do and keep up the epic work!
For the lenses maybe clear worbla could be an option too. but as far as tinting them your best bet would have been to dye the plastic with idye poly then chrome the inside. You can use spazstix chrome out of a rattle can and/or alclad-107 out of an air brush. I do like how yours turned out though!
Excellent video! Your channel was the inspiration for me getting into 3D printing cosplay. What you accomplish with spray paint is what convinced me that I can do this too. Thanks for the tutorials and the inspiration to create cosplay!!
Good video! I have the Vek file and it’s very nice. Printed the mask in 2 pieces on my Phenom L. Resin printing the teeth like you mentioned and eye bucks works great if you have a small resin printer. I also vacuformed the eyes.
I made my first 3D print. Simple and easy it was Mew for my girlfriend. Thank you so much for your tutorial on starting off and keeping my confidence. I appreciate everything you post. Ps the reason your paints bubble. The difference is oil based and latex and water when you mix the different bases it bubbles. Stick with one or the other. Again great content thank you so much. Have a phenomenal day.
Sweet action. I bought those Testors paints a couple of months ago because they looked perfect! I think I may do at least 5 layers of the green copper and purple fog so it's more bold. I'm planning on printing the "lenses" from the files and using my heat gun to form the actual lenses. Just need to figure out the tinting part, might have to do what you did or at least something similar. I have the exact same files, just wish I would've known about the promo code when I bought it a few weeks ago 😆. Great video as always!
galactic armory made a video about doing visors for halo/master chief helmets that I think would work really well for one of these, though the process was a little complicated
could you do a video on how to do a colour shift for people in the uk that dont have as much access to spray paint as america ive been trying to make a colour shifting print of the arkham knight helmet
Man that thing turned out great. The video editing keeps getting better too. If I ever finish my MK85 Helmet, I might attempt this a it is very cool. But I'm nearly finished printing all the parts for the Call of Duty Zombies Ray-pew. (Avoiding g-word). With all the small parts I think I finally understand my printer and orientations to get the best quality. Can wait to paint it and add the electronics.
To be honest, I wouldn't really care about what's on the inside of the helmet I would like to know if it's possible to attach it to the front plate of a dirt bike Only the face and head matters. Not the chin and neck stuff So if you slide it down a little further, you could possibly add it to the front of your dirt bike.
I am hoping to do my own goblin helmet in the future (rocketeer is my current endeavor) and this paint job is the ideal for me. Love how these two colors work together over the black gloss. I prefer the matte finish myself but yours turned out great! Definitely keeping this in mind for the future.
Dude, all of your content is amazing. Keep it coming. Seeing as how you're a huge fan of Ironman, one can safely assume you like transformers as well. Well, if you do, within the next week or so, I'll be posting up a video of a mash-up I did. I won't be finished (paint, lighting, etc.) but the helmet itself will be done. I thought you might like it.
Love all of the info you provide. I'm looking to get back into costume making and I really want a decent printer with a good size table. What would you recomend?
Could you print the lens pieces with a clear resin that is tinted using one of those cymk tint kits, then put the chrome-tinted plastic behind it maybe?

I built my own vacuformer from a $20 space heater and various sizes of 1-by lumber (1x2, 1x3, 1x4) and use my shop vac to run it. MUCH less than $1000.
