I opted for the other style of bandsaw and rigged up a table for cutting vertically. I show it in my "Mini Shop Tour" video. I'd link it here, but it'd probably flag the comment.

I went with the harbor freight Hercules stand. Ive been very happy with it. Doubles as a chop saw too. Only downside to these portsband stands is the 5" inches of throat. Cant rip long pieces. But still a very useful tool.

This is a nice simple video tutorial that is easy to recreate at home.
I also learned you can tap aluminum with an impact driver, I always assumed the threads would get gnarled up because of aluminum's habit to 'gunk up' your cutting hardware.

I'm 41 and just don't know where to start trying to open a side business. I don't have the extra cash or space to invest in materials that may or may not sale. Like the plate you used for the saw table, I see $64 plus shipping and I'm like wow that's expensive. How do most people afford the materials now days, Credit? I'd rather not run up a huge credit card bill on something that may or may not payoff. I guess it's fear of not succeeding, especially after I had a franchise that failed me about 10 years ago. I hope this makes sense.

I bought a piece of diamond plate aluminum at a metal supply house for 15 bucks. It was mounted on their door as a kick panel. Flip it over and do the same thing Justin did, you have a $15 set up. You got to repurpose materials as you see fit don’t just buy brand new. Ask for scraps you’ll be surprised on what you can get.

Not so long ago the the various trades wholesalers had on display a port-a-band saw with a fixture. It was a no name,or at least a brand not seen before. Pre Temu. It was designed to cut round and flat or angle stock. It wasn't versatile. 90 and 45 degree cuts only. The mouth was roughly 3 inches. It disappeared after about 3 months. I inquired at one of the wholesalers if they ever sold any. No,not a single one came the reply.
High quality trades people want high quality tools.
I like what you did here.

I would like to know about invoicing and how that works. I do think that word of mouth agreements are sufficient, but I have seen shops like that and you have to constantly call them to see if they are working on your job etc.
Also, how to determine material inventory, especially for a small shop or starting up?

I just got a welder set up going and have been asking around for repair jobs, how do you price your consumables and quoting a job. Do you add everything up and add things like labor and time, or just do a set hourly rate. Iv seen both in town and am unsure what to go with.

    • @amcustomfab
      @amcustomfab 2 месяца назад +1

Reverse engineer it... To get customers people have to know about you and your capabilities. So do things that showcase you and your capabilities and then put it in front of people. Ie . Post it on his social media., help someone word of mouth sells itself, fix a niche problem And then share it in a niche area where there are people that care about that etc......... 😎👊

Make another wall but horizontal, so you can cut long exhaust pipes square. Clamp the pipe on the wall and slide towards blade to cut. But you would have to cut flush the bolt that holds the fixture to main table or counter sunk it and nut on the bottom.

Justin, Beware !!!!! I have the DeWalt Bandsaw like yours, Purchased a few years ago,
after sitting unused after buying and using a few times, over a period of maybe 1 year or so,
the tires became extremely gummy and peeled off and got bound up in the wheels and drive...
I have never seen rubber do that except when dipped in Hydro-Seal cleaner......anyway,
the good news is, tires from a Milwaukee will fit right on the DeWalt......I have both, and like the DeWalt better.....
    thanks for a great build.....Paul
