  • We all know WWE and AEW as the main two wrestling promotions. But outside of these 2 exist many wrestling promotions all over the world and not every wrestling promotion lasts forever. Some for many different reasons whether it be bad decisions, bad booking or bad spending. And today we’re gonna discuss a few of those cases so let’s talk about it let’s talk about wrestling promotions that shut down.

I feel like CYN could have worked... as a stable, not a promotion.
Like, when they showed up on the RoH show, it felt exciting, and the idea of a stable all about "taking control of your destiny" would be cool.
Part weird wrestling cult, part motivational seminar. You just have them show up in other promotions, offering people "salvation from stagnation" or some bullshit like that, and causing problems in the name of "giving you freedom."
Hell, you can even keep the weird set of rules, make it like a stipulating they use, matches with them are contested under CYN rules, meaning they can still jump you if you use the moves they don't like you using and all that.
It could have worked... but it didn't.

Why not discuss the real reason WCPW failed? How about Adam Blampied & Adam Pachiti making the storylines around themselves to live their booking fantasies with the same lame swerves and evil booker angles that they ripped on WWE for incessantly? NOBODY wanted to see storylines focused on two 125 lb non-talents but WhatCulture couldn't keep their egos in check.

It would be interesting to hear about what happened with TNA's All Wheels Wrestling, Nickelodeon's WACK Wrestling, and Underworld Wrestling.
Underworld was very interesting. It's basically Australian Lucha Underground on a lower budget, but what really grabbed my attention was how they had rules and a points system, which was how wrestlers earned title shots. I've watched 2 free shows they've uploaded to RUclips, but I think you can watch nearly all of their episodes for free on Tubi. (There's ads, but ad blockers work.) It's definitely a unique concept for a fight club vibe.

@@duckmercy11 WACK (Wrestling Association of Championship Krushers) was Nick's attempt at a wrestling show back in like 2007, and all the wrestlers were basically in mascot/character suits. It only lasted a Thanksgiving special and several TV spots I think. There was also an online game, too. You can find some footage online.
Here's footage of the Thanksgiving special. There were only two televised matches total. ruclips.net/video/RvIp719IEtQ/видео.htmlsi=j0_e55MdAcE3PgN9
The only other wrestling that aired on Nickelodeon was The Miz VS Big Show for the Slime Wrestling Championship with Santino Marella as the referee at the 2012 Kids Choice Awards.

I caught CYN one night after work at 1 in the morning. I caught it on free vee's live tv channels buried at the bottom of the guide. 38 years of watching wrestling and it was a pile of crap. What so many of these companies don't seem to get is the PPV stuff. It took Ring of Honor what 8 or 9 years before they could pull one off??? And even up to that point they weren't on tv. You still had to buy event DVD's, tickets to live shows, or a few matches on RUclips. Everybody wants to be what ROH was, but they don't want to put in the work that earned ROH it's respect.

*I used to watch WCPW religiously on free TV ofc, right when I was burnt out from watching terrible product in WWE, WCPW introduced me to a lot of stars in Pete Dunne, Joe Hendry, Will Ospreay, Martin Kirby (yes I loved the guy), Bea Priestley (now Blair Davenport), Big Damo (Killian Dain), El Ligero (super underrated), and oh a young, bland raw babyface in Gabriel Kidd (now Gabe Kidd in NJPW) and the Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate and Trent Seven) just to name a few. I'm glad I got to watch that time in British wrestling, I re-watched the WCPW World Cup from time to time because it was THAT good, I just wish they stuck around longer.*

I will always have a positive view of wcpw/defiant. I was rehabbing from multiple brain surgeries when I found roh and got back into the scene. The world cup introduced me to so many great British and indy stars. It seemed like a hidden gem on RUclips that definitely wouldn't be around forever given how expensive it must have been to bring all those people in. The rebranding was necessary, but the pivot strategically definitely dampened my interest over time

The big problem with WCPW was that the WhatCulture employees who created/ran it all got screwed over by management so left to make their own channel (Cultaholic) and the people left couldn't run a wrestling promotion anywhere near as well.

I believe that the managerial people bit off more than they can chew by trying to obtain former WWE wrestlers that were released by the promotion during the pandemic.
