    Great Video! Just a little addition to P-factor you mentioned:
    P-factor is just one of the 4 propeller forces. These often cause problems because each force impacts the plane in different phases of flight.
    P-factor will yaw the plane left when it is at an angle of attack (so when tailwheel is on the ground essentially) and increases with speed.
    Torque rolls the plane left. This causes even more left yaw on the ground since the left wheel digs into the ground more and countering it with ailerons introduces left adverse yaw.
    Gyroscopic forces yaw the plane when you change pitch and pitch the plane when you yaw. For example right yaw when you pitch up).
    Propeller Slip Stream yaws the plane left and the effect decreases with speed.
    You counter this with right rudder and aileron. How much depends on speed and phase in takeoff, as controls get more effective with speed.
    Understanding all these effect is crucial for smooth T/O and landings and will improve your flying - and especially your survivability when you are low and slow.

    Hello, thank you for your thorough video!
    I had a day of training with a Mustang crew last year and there's just two points I would comment on: Nobody uses the parking break it seems. Just use the toe breaks on startup and throttle down when the oil has reached the minimum temperature. Also you can turn on the magnetos before using the starter to make the startup timing easier.
    Looking forward to future videos, see you in the (virtual) sky!

      Awesome! Good to know. I'd love to go fly with a Mustang crew, and get some first hand experience with the TF-51D/P-51D.

    Hi, Glad I came came across this. Most videos I've seen don't cover the shutdown, so I'll be practicing this tonight.

    I learned to master (well, kind of anyway) the TF-51D using these videos; very much appreciated. Used in conjunction with the official P-51 manual this learned me a lot.

    Funny thing, I was doing the start up tutorial and the guy just finishes the parking brake procedure, then instructs me to start up the engine and I had full throttle on, immediately the plane tilted completely forward, broke the propeller and then came backwards and he kept on going and I was like "well then."

      ruclips.net/video/0Jpp5g6ZxB8/видео.html Give this a watch for an explanation on why this happens in propeller planes. Happens in all single engine propeller planes, and is more prominent with higher horsepower engines like the one used by the P-51D Mustang. If it's happening in a jet, ensure that both engines are on and running properly. Otherwise, you may need to file a bug report to Eagle Dynamics.

    As far as I've seen, you can switch the magneto to D before you hit the starter.
    You press starter and then switch to RUN and the engine starts up no problem.

    Nice tutorial, makes me want to download DCS and try it :)

    • @psyrixx
      @psyrixx  6 лет назад +3

      You should! It's a free download and comes with the Su25T (non-clickable cockpit) and the TF-51D (clickable cockpit), and if you really get into it there are several aircraft modules that are fully modeled that you can look into purchasing as well as a few more simple aircraft modules that are simplified (anything with Flaming Cliffs is simple systems: non-clickable cockpits).

I made it to the taxi lesson and it told me to move the control stick aft of the center. I can't figure it out and I am just freaking out!!!! Please help!

    Any idea?

    • @psyrixx
      @psyrixx  4 года назад +1

      The Su25 and Su25T do not have clickable cockpits as they are simplified systems aircraft. Everything is controlled with keyboard commands. The TF-51 should have clickable cockpit - check your control configuration for the keybinding to enable Mouse Mode (this is usually LeftAlt+C) if you're having trouble, although you should be able to click on switches in the TF-51 and any aircraft except the A-10A, Su25, Su27, F-15, Su33, or Mig29 as these all share the simplified systems (keyboard commands only).

    What about pre-oiling the engine? In other videos I saw, that after the engine has been off for quite a while, it has to be pre-oiled as long as 2 minutes!

    • @JordanOwnby
      @JordanOwnby 3 года назад

      I think that's if it's been sitting for a good while, but I think in DCS they figure most of the stuff with the P-51D is combat-oriented in which case I think the planes were getting used much more frequently and didn't vneed to pre-oil as much. Just a guess though.

Is there a tutorial I can watch to learn how to set up and controls

    Thanks for the video. I'm starting to learn while I wait for my T.16000m fcs to arrive :)
    Please can you advise: are non clickable cockpits more basic models (ie requiring less user input to fly)? Or does it simply mean you have to map the cockpit controls to keyboard/joystick? THanks

    • @psyrixx
      @psyrixx  6 лет назад +1

      You have to map the cockpit controls to keyboard/joystick. Some of the systems are more simplified (in the case of the Su25T and A-10A for example, you just hit "o" to turn on the targeting camera) but you also get a lot less control over how you can employ weapons.
      Eagle Dynamics actually just announced a ... Spiritual Successor to their Flaming Cliffs series called "Modern Air Combat" that will be coming this Fall... all simplified systems aircraft (non-clickable cockpits) that will fly and be controlled like the Su25T.

      With the mouse BUT to get full screen you must change the game resolution so it is the same as your screen resolution. If you just enlarge the window by clicking on “full screen” the mouse doesn’t know the new switch position.

    That joystick is a piece of shit. I've gone through 5 or 6 of those and they consistently fail either in the Z-Rotation sensor, or in the slider and sometimes also the trigger.
    I've had 2 of the earlier green version, which was not as gayish as the orange one and was also better at the Z-Rotation sensor.
    The orange version has lesser quality Z-Rotation sensor and switches.
    The only two good things about this joystick is the H.E.A.R.T. sensor, which never failed on me, perhaps because it is magnetic, and, I have to say, its ergonomics.
    It could benefit from a pinky switch though.

      I’m a newbie to DCS and find that if you don’t have a suitable joystick you are likely to give up in frustration not realising how much it handicaps you.
      If there isn’t one already I would like a tutorial on axis mapping, setting up special screens etc. For example I’ve been frustrated because after a succesful landing I brake using “W” and the plane tips over. I’ve just realised I must map it to a slider control.

      I found that particular useful: if I would start playing this game (I never, ever was interested in computer games until... I saw this one), that info will help me a LOT! There are sooo many joysticks around, buying a useful one right away may save a lot of money and.... frustration :-)
