If that happens, you probably have all of the points in your shape selected instead of just the inner points. You can select the inner points separately using the Direct Selection Tool (A on your keyboard).
reallyt great videos. i like your work. Why on the last design would you not use the repeat radial feature? It does the same job but makes it editable so you can have some fun with the arrangement of your mandela before your done. Just a thought.

Hey !! I cant rotate it- in 2:05 minute. My anchor points are not moving as you shown, besides my whole object is rotating.

The rotation tool doesnt affect the path of the star. It just rotate. Idk what to do D:
