- Here's a polymeter jam with the Arturia MicroFreak (5/4 meter) and the Korg Monologue (3/4 meter), with 2 Zoom MS-70CDRs filling in the gaps with delays and reverbs.
My music on Bandcamp: waveformer42.ba...
The patches for the MicroFreak, Monologue and MS-70 are included below.
The MicroFreak plays a custom patch with a wavetable oscillator and some random LFO modulation of timbre, filter and envelope slopes. The Freak plays two 64 step sequences that are identical, except that sequence B is one octave above sequence A. The melody in the sequence is in 5/4 meter, with one 4/4 bar at the end to use all 64 steps (5*12 + 4). In parts of the jam, I switch the MicroFreak from sequencer mode to arpeggiator mode. Some spice and dice is thrown in for good measure.
The Monologue plays a 12 step sequence in 3/4 meter. I'm also using the LFO to modulate filter cutoff slowly and out of sync with the tempo so that different steps of the 12 step sequence is emphasized for each run.
The delay for the MicroFreak is set to 3 16th notes, with a second stereo delay at a lower level, set to 5 and 6 16th notes. The delay for the Monologue is set to 9 16th notes, with a second autopan delay set to 2 16th notes. Together all these delays fill in the empty 16th note steps in the quarter note based melodies in the sequences. Having the delays set to more than 4 16th notes (one quarter note) helps build a more complex 16th note melody out of the simple 4 quarter note sequence.
I have created a basic delay calculator to help me find the correct delay time in milliseconds. It's available here: waveformer.net/...
The Zoom MS-70CDR patches are included below. To load a patch into the MS-70, connect your MS-70 to your computer using a USB cable, go to g200kg.github...., right-click an available patch slot, select "Import Patch from text", and paste in this text.

Pretty nice arp. Like that soft sound :)
Thank you 😊
what you achieve with such a minimal setup , i have no words for it , it's just amazing i love it
Thank you 😊😊😊
Your work is stunning. I have always loved the early JMJ albums and you capture the feel and atmosphere of this superb music perfectly. Inspirational!
Glad you like it 🤗
lovely!!
BoBeats Thank you 😊😊😊
damn i was checking out that ikea lamp just 2 days ago
Kristofers Knesis 😀. The table is also from IKEA.
Soooo Beautiful! I feel Nils Frahm vibe! ❤
trikOsk 😊. Says, All Melody and #2 are my favorites. And his live performances of these are so varied. Great artist!
Beautiful!
Great music. Could you tell me what kind of power adapter do you used? Thanks
It’s a Vitoos ISO8 I bought from Ali Express. I’m not sure if they still sell it.
Very cool - love the delay calculator too - genius!
Seb Synth thanks 😊. Glad you found the calculator useful.
Thank you 4 the delaycalculator, extended notes, patches and beautifull music !
Holy Diver Thanks 😊. Glad you found it useful.
Great work!
Brandon Dorris glad you liked it 😊
Wow, this sounds incredible.
strongocho Thanks 😊😊😊
Hi!
simply👍👏👏👏
Thanks 😀😊😊😊
Elements of Jean Michel Jarre's 'Arpeggiator' in there.. took me back to the China Concerts! Brilliant stuff.😁👍
Dave Holt I see what you mean. I love the old Jarre stuff 😀.
Very nice jams ! always like your music, shows us the wonders it's possible to do with small setups
Olival Clanaro thank you 😊. I get a lot of inspiration from small setups. I have some bigger synths as well, a Juno-106, a DX21 and an EPS 16+ sampler. I love them, and have composed stuff on those as well, but i just find it so much fun exploring the new small synths together with effect pedals.
nice and thanks 4 patches
Dillip Phunbar Thanks, & you’re welcome 😊
Top notch.
drstupid1 thank you, doctor 😀.
Nice piece.
Axibis thanks 😊
This really is excellent , sounds beautiful ,, well done :-)
SOLARYZER thank you 😊😊
Estoy conduciendo en mi camion ,escuchando esta musica ...oye ! It’s cool 👍👍👍
Driver Roman 😊😊😊
MF / Monologue match very well ! Reminds me some Tangerine Dream's sounds ! And a day with a new video of Waveformer is a good day ! Thank you for sharing !
Strange Oscillator thanks, that’s kind of you 😊😊😊.
Sublime!
David Banner 😊😊😊
You are really becoming the delay master. I still think lacrimosa was genius. I hope some day you sequence some bach in that style.
jj rusy thank you 😊. I’ll try to create something from Bach’s repertoire some time soon.
Nice. I believe Edgar Froese from Tangerine Dream would approve.
Joseph Wright yeah, I’m inspired by them, for sure 😊.
Yes. I believe your are from Germany, right?
I love their stuff from about 1973 - 1983 or so, especially a lot of the soundtracks like Thief, Wavelength, Risky Business ...
Joseph Wright close - I’m from Norway :-)
Cerebral. I love the polymetric stuff! I see that there also appears to be a MIDI connection between the MF and the Monologue. Is that just for clocking or is there actual MIDI being sent?
i think the MF is also transposing the Mono's sequence :)
MIDI out from the Monologue to MIDI in on the MicroFreak. It’s just for sync.
I transpose the Monologue sequence the old fashion way, using the pitch bend on the Monologue. The pitch bend range is set to two semitones down and three semitones up, which fits nicely with a minor key. I also kind of transpose the Monologue using oscillator sync and changing the pitch of the second oscillator to a fifth above the root (I get a lot of the harmonics from the fifth, even though the fundamental stays the same).
@@Waveformer Oh super nice technique ! i would never have guessed hehe
You badass.
Alex Boulton 😊😎
