Oh boy. Forbidding both tobacco and coffee, on top of alcohol. Now that's going to go over well with the population 🫣. Especially since it will deprive quite a few of a way, to make their lively hood in the ravaged city. As well as providing distraction and a little comfort to the tormented population. And Kosem told Murad the reason for the fire, didn't she? That it was arson, plain and simple? So it's not, like they suspected cigarettes (or whatever they made from tobacco) to be the reason for the fire.
But everyone, especially in these communities revolving around the palace, were under direct authority of the sultan, who apparently had to approve any marriage, after his mother.
LOLOLOLOL, the restrictions on tobacco use echo the alarmed restrictions on Cannabis use in the USA for many years. It seems that both prohibitions fell to popular opinion.
