Thanks. Good comparison. Only one point for future comparisons… I would drop the fancy transition and just do a simple cut-shot or very fast swipe transition, or better yet, show them side-by-side in a split-screen view. Believe it or not, by the time you do the fancy transition it’s hard to remember exactly was the previous shot looked like. That weird transition messes with your mind and I wind up having to rewind and fast-forward to jump past your flipping-triangle transition so I can see an instant comparison. Seems like a small detail but it was significantly distracting and detracted from the comparison. It’s also cheesy in my opinion. Fancy transitions are so 1980’s and just make you video come across more amateurish and more like an MTV video. However, your content was great and well delivered. Thanks for the info. Cheers
Thanks for the video man! I've bought the brio last month and never thought about comparing prices with DSLRs and this make total sense. Until now, i was feeling that brio was just a bit better than others webcams, but you really can get almost professional quality with brio, with a lower price. And so easy to use, just conect and you are ready to go.

I have been using a logitech brio 4k for a few years now and after this video I will eventually switch to a dslr like Lumix G7 with a camlink into my computer for my videos.

Can you share the setup for the G7, or recommend the preferred setting for stationary live streaming.
Fantastic video! You mentioned operating the G7 via it's own external control, "can" you control it via the computer/software once it's connected? Also, since this video is a couple years old now...do you recommend any of the other Lumix series cameras as an option for keeping on par for the next few years?
What general settings do you use on the G7 to get your video looking best on lets say Zoom calls?

Question: do you know whether it is possible to record 4K (so 4K, not FHD) with the G7 in OBS (or stream, for that matter) via elgato cam link 4k? It works with no problems in FHD 60p/30p, but I could not make it work in 4K (neither 24p nor 30p). In fact the source is not recognized in any of the apps I have in win 11 (e.g. zoom, teams, etc., not even in the default camera app) so, I do not believe it is an OBS issue. I searched the internet quite extensively, but all the materials I found go around this issue quite "elegantly", I should say. Perhaps G7 cannot do that, which is also possible. Just curious to see what your thoughts are on this. Thanks.
How do you get the auto focus box to not show in your stream. Been using the g7 can't seem to get rid of the focus box keeps showing up on the stream.

Like the video, great info. Suggestion...when you make a comparison between two pieces of footage maybe not do the transition clip but instead do a simple jump cut so the differences show more.

What about brio vs using my extra cell phone camera and Webcam software? I'm using a a galaxy note 9. Would it be worth getting a Webcam or just utilizing my cell phone camera?
You're having the exact problem I've been fighting with at 11:30. That fringing of the chroma key. But you have older videos where you list that you are using the Brio with Chroma and are not getting this fringing, so it's not just the Brio causing this. Is there a setting you use that gets rid of this? I've tried all sorts of software methods. My next step is to try to use a DSLR, but frankly if I can fix this one problem, the rest of the limitations are ones I can live with. Help?
I bought the Panasonic Lumix G7 (with the stock 14-42 lens) after watching this. But I'm having the worst time keeping the focus on my face for podcasts. I've had better results with my iPhone 12 Pro Max, but I realize that's because I haven't mastered the settings like you have. I'm using the HDMI cable and the Cam Link. I have good lighting on me and good separate lighting on the green screen behind me. I've had moments where the Lumix G7 looks fantastic but then my face gets blurry again. Any suggestions to fix this focus problem would be greatly appreciated! The shows on my channel over the past month have been on my iPhone. But I REALLY want to use my new Lumix G7.
When the Panasonic G7 works via HDMI (video capture card), the autofocus does not work. Autofocus works only in "video recording" mode. But in "HDMI" mode, you can press the shutter button "half way" and then the autofocus will focus on you. Or manual focus. If the lighting allows, then set the aperture to 5.6.
Im pretty happy with my brio. I think its worth waiting the 2 years to upgrade to dslr. At the point there's probably going to be pretty decent price/performance options by then.
what spec does my laptop need to be able to use the DSLR for live stream on a cam site? my girl wants to do that again but the non nude option u can do ether way nude or non nude on this site

i own a g7 since i used it when i was getting into cinema. just upgraded to a sony fx6, so im so happy i can use the g7 as a webcam
i think you can use all most any DSLR camera and mirrorless camera as a webcam or for live streaming you just need to make sure it as a clean HDMI that is when u can shut off the displays the white info that show up on then screen of the camera so that u live stream or video call will not show the white info on the screen

Thank you for mentioning the dummy battery. I hardly ever see any reviewers mention that when they suggest getting a DSLR set up instead of a webcam.
I took up photography as a hobby and have a DSLR with different lenses but I still go the Brio anyway.
Elgato's cam link is a little more than the price of the Brio. Add the expense for the hdmi cable and the dummy battery and the whole set up was starting to lose it's appeal to me. Then of course there's the mounting system. I can afford to spend for that but the big catch is, my camera's shutter has a time limit of 29:59. If I don't physically operate it within that time frame, it shuts. I'm not sure if it's just a Nikon problem though but I don't see any reviewers mention that you can't pick up just any DSLR and use it.
The Brio's just plug and play. With a little software adjustment and good lightning, it's more than passable for the current times and I think will hold up for a few years until maybe it's time for an upgrade. I do agree though that eventually webcams will need to get on the level of entry level DSLR quality.

I would say: If you like to learn a new camera system, get the system camera. If you just want to have okay looking image, get a webcam.
Damn, the difference is literally night and day to me. I love the brio but DSLR is next level.
Rather than Logitech brio, you may have compared something like nexigo iris Vs DSLR.
nice though i think the Lumix g7 is a mirrorless camera and not a DSLR
looking at some reviews of the C922 PRO VS at BRIO 4K, I can't see such a big difference in the fluidity of the frames, sometimes it seems to me that Brio is not at 60 fps in all the reviews I've seen, is it really Logitech Brio does 60 frames ?
I just got my Brio today. Yes, it does do 60fps, but if the exposure is set too high then the video will look bad and not 60fps. This is where lighting is important. If you have good enough lighting, you can lower the exposure and get 60fps and overall better quality. Exposure set at -5 or lower seems to provide the best results for me

I think the Brio feels more "natural" whereas the DSLR feels like what people describe as "cinematic" which is never natural. The color and detail is obviously better on the DSLR but for me, I like the Brio better.

The camera on an IMAC is not good quality. I have one and right now I am using my. Logitech C922 PRO stream cam and it is way better than the cam on my Mac.
Thirth of the price? How bout lenses, capture cards, HDMI cables, and whatever else? You cant compare to just the price of the body of the camera. Most likely you have to sink 1k into all that crap.
