Fantastic stuff vince, and thanks for the mention too. So happy to see you've fixed your first BSOD, definitely looking forward to when you reball one 😀 Just a heads up, the BSOD is actually a communication issue between the CPU and RAM (hence why sometimes it will be the ram at fault). If the pressure test doesn't work it usually has a pulled trace on the bottom right side of the cpu, they're a pain in the jacksy lol. Keep it up, your repairs get better every day!

What a nice looking switch. That colour is brilliant! Mr. Rossman answered a question about taking big cips of from macbooks. His answer was you do not need a board heater it is possible to do as good of a work if you pre heat it in the oven to 100 degrees and take the chip out right after, it is probably easyer to reflow a chip that way as well. Love you content!
Ooh, what a lovely Switch, never seen one that colour before. Not sure if you've tried it, but i find aluminium tape an excellent alternative to kapton tape, it sticks down really well. (well, that's my experience with it... I'm sure I'll get some replies disagreeing 😁)
I don't recommend aluminum tape because the adhesive makes a big mess. Aluminum foil works just the same, just takes a bit of shaping to get it to stick where you need it.
Nice fix Vince. One tip I picked up off @NorthridgeFix channel - he often uses a bit of metal shielding or a coin to protect nearby components when heating boards that take a while.
You definitely need to invest in a pre-heater for the bottom of the board when doing a reflow, dumping that much heat energy into the chip from the top to melt the solder underneath is always very risky
Great job Vince, I think you were right, maybe the larger tip for the hot air gun might have helped, also a scootch higher temp? Thanks for the videos.
When heating up the top of a chip, why not get a heat detection gun (like infra red) which gives out temp while you heating the chip. This way, rather than guessing you at a temp to melt the solder you have more confidence. Just a thought
Vince if you want to take the next step with a proper reball, buy a stencil and 90X90 reball jig. There is a few traces on the outer edge, or perimeter of the APU that frequently tear and you can see the traces visibly to run jumpers
I"m late but-- right now, every painting is a good painting. Even if it's bad. Every painting is a step on a journey. Every failure is a chance to learn. Every risk a chance to grow. There are no good paintings or bad paintings. Just progress :)
I had a switch with random BSOD. It ended up being liquid damage around the Max77812 That IC supply's voltage to the APU. For me applying pressure on boot didn't fix the issue, and for good reason. So if you ever come across a switch with BSOD and it's not bent or drop damage, check those MAX ICs :) Edit: you should change the Pl3USB anyway and see if you have docking. The quality of your videos are fantastic. Good job Vince! You deserve a good fix!!
@@Mymatevince I would check the USB connecter and see if it looks damaged and change PI3USB out. As far as I am aware, the same video output off the Tegra SoC is fed to the screen while not docked and to the C port via the hdmi encoder and related chips when it is docked. I don’t think the SoC is at all to blame for the dock not working.
It's definitely time for you to upgrade your hot air system. You need something with higher thermal capacity. I have just upgraded a lot of my tools and the difference is night and day. Great video.

I love watching you trying to fix Nintendo switch videos!!! Keep up the great work!! Wow those paintings are really good!! Way better than I can do lol!
A very good tip I got was to increase the chance of a successful re-flow. Just put a bit of flux on one side of a big chip like a cpu or apu and tilt the board up, then heat just the flux until it melds and it will run under the chip just by gravity. Once it comes out on the bottom along the complete length of the chip you know that every solder ball got some flux. This way you use less flux and do not have to clean connectors and stuff. Then you put it back down and heat it up gently. This way your chances are still shit but a little bit better ;D....
Nice partial fix mate, I would recommend getting a pre heater for your rework stuff because the apu is quite big and no matter how good your Heat Gun is it wouldn't be able to Heat the whole thing without the Cooper spreading the heat
