- In this video timelapse, I show you the creation of my 'friends' illustration for the 2023 Affinitober.
I use strokes with an adjusted pressure curve to achieve the cut lines and the layer blend mode 'Multiply' to combine the colours. Each colour sits in it's own layer allowing me to use white shapes and lines as an eraser as it will not be displayed with 'Multiply'.
Enjoy!
I recorded a tutorial on the process earlier:

Approx. how many days of work did this take you to do the original design? And, it must have taken additional huge amount of time to put together the video! Thank you - it helps to see your approach.
It didn't take days but minutes. It has done in Affinity Designer in one go in 1hour 20 minutes. I didn't work with a sketch or drawings prior but just set down and started. The editing [cutting, adding the texts, additional images, and the narration] always takes me a lot longer. Being a timelapse and not a tutorial, this one took another 2 1/2 - 3 hours to cut edit and get into the shape it's now.
Have a look at some of the youtube shorts on my channel - they have the times included to give you an idea how long certain stages take.
Hi, why are you using colour layers for the main colour rather than fill on the item you're colouring ?
I am trying to emulate the effect of wood cut prints - different colours printed on top of each other, mixing where they overlap. Using gobal colours then lets me alter the look and feel of the design very easily. You might want to watch the tutorial video I recorded earlier as it explains more and show some more examples.
