For CA$1000 you could get a whole e-bike in the Netherlands! Not really that great of a deal
probably best to add this to a high quality bike that you don't want to replace.
I just paid 1,200 for a full ebike at Costco in California. It took me several videos to find a price for this contraption. Never a good indicator.
You could get a ebike for 300 usd at Costco. 15 mile range.
@@theqball80 HIgh quality & 'Normal looking bike', you already have.
Hate those bulging batteries & fat tires on ebikes.
Swytch kit is more discreet & not announcing you're riding an ebike.
The two identical pieces are actually not. One set is thicker. Which one you use is dependant on the space between the pedal and the frame hub (It mentions this in the instructions). If less than 2mm, you don't use the inserts, just the sensor. You don't have to cut out the pieces in between. They compact when you sandwich it all together and put the C clip on.
I also have the same issue with the sensor reader, thought.
Your points are valid , the review is good and crucially anyone who buys a swytch is going to run into the pas / disk - sensor challenge. I have the issue with a brompton , and that needs to fold / unfold - pretty much daily, so the ties will move the sensor unless the part is secured ultra tight which is not an easy task….
JB Weld or silicone
Good review, though I would like to point out one thing, as someone who has done numerous e-bike conversions: You'll find many conversion kits (even the higher end ones) use a zip tie to secure cabling and some sensors. They're cheap, secure, and easy to replace. Hope you enjoy the bike! Ride safe.
Thanks for the info!
I had the same issue with my sensor clearance, I'm less handy but more crafty so i used beading wire and glue to string it in the space between my down tube and seat post, basically crossed my fingers that the target would line up with the magnets. My kit took a whole year to arrive in Canada. There was an issue with disk brake clearance, the new wheel sat differently in the fork than my old one. Despite the trouble I must say my first ride with the kit was really fun, I love how light the kit is! Only been on it twice but so far I love the results, hoping it continues to be a great investment
I was thinking of geting a swytch kit but upon watching this and a few more reviews it do's not appear to be what is advertised as .Its overpriced and they say it's tailored to fit your bike but every reviue I have watched it requires modifacation. The range is very low compared to the e bikes I allready own and who wants to wait 6 months for delivery when you can buy a kit off e bay for less than £200 and a larger capacity battery for £120 and have it delivered in less than 2 weeks ? . Thank you for makeing this vid and take care ;-)
I ordered mine in April and after numerous e-mails, finally received the wheel assembly in October. Now, repeated e-mails is promising the rest will be delivered this month (December 2022). You are correct, Swytch is super frustrating. I should have read more reviews before giving them my money for seven months. Maybe I will get to assemble it and enjoy my bike in 2023.
Ordered mine in June or July of 2022. Received mid-January. I agree, the Senors, along with the wires, are held in place using ZIP ties, not twist ties. Still working on getting mine installed. But I have until warm weather, maybe May or June. Enjoy the ride.
once installed it does work!
I purchased a Yosepower kit, took two days to arrive, easy to fit and works great
Good walk through/tips. Not huge/insurmountable issues in my book. When you're installing retrofitting kits, the nippers, zipties, angle grinder/dremel need to make a guest appearance at times. I'm still eagerly waiting on my kit to arrive.
Great review. I was going to order one of these but after hearing about your experience with their customer services I have changed my mind. There is no way I will spend my money with such a horrible company . Once again thanks for the video.
I just received my kit after waiting 6 months but expected to wait 3 months. I got mine for 1/2 off and I got to say that they responded to my emails about the order status within 24 hours. I am not sure how effective the WhatsApp is when trying to communicate with Swytch but I used their Tech Support email on their website and the response was good. I will install my kit in the next couple of weeks and hopefully, it will go smoothly but I would anticipate with the literally thousands of different bicycles out there that the kit may need some modifying to conform to your particular bike.
thanks for the honest review, and researching Swytch. as said 50%, comes with a wait. I am deciding if I want one and wait till Fall of 2024. 2 kits Ez-rider goes for around $669.99 Am sure shipping is included, while another person is charging for shipping, or Swytch. both are clean kits but Swytch looks Thinner and a replacable battery, I need to decide if an Ebike kit is really worth the purchase.
Just paid the £200 deposit to secure one of these kits. I don't forsee any sensor fitting problems to be honest. I certainly won't be complaining if one or two slight modifications have to be made.
Thank you soo much for your honest review. I won’t be buying one after watching your video. I’ll pay the money and buy a new e bike and give my normal bike away
Thanks. I was trying to get an idea of the costs. I am on a waiting list, so I know it depends on the numbers. My guess is that they are a fairly new company and most likely are taking all the complains seriously... and may have too many to contend with, lol. And even so, if, once installed, it works as well as yours, I'm in... and YES wear a helmet.
Got mine 2 days ago , front wheel doesn’t fit into fork lugs!😢
Hi Mark, so far I got 4 out of 7 so far. Just got the wheel and motor today. Hoping things are going well. I'll let you know how things are going from my end in cowtown
Ha same as my shipment the rest of it should come within a week and sometimes extra parts by accident gets sent
Did you get the kit on?
Did you get your parts?
Those snips are huge 😮
Maybe they give you two identical disks just in case one of the disks gets damaged in the build or to give you the option of switching the kit to another bike if things don't go to plan.
thats watt she said, aye...
I had to wait six months for my Kit to arrive, and i live in the UK were the company is supposed to be based, it was just left in my front, luckily it did not rain for a change and it wasn't stolen, no notification it was arriveing. Also had the same trouble with the censor, like you i had to cut the mount off and glue it to the 18 cm circumference tube, the only way it would work. I could not get the front wheel to fit into the slots without fileing a few thou of the axels and taking a few thou off the sides of the fork (with my angle grinder) were the cable came out. They sent me two chargers without an explanation, they have told me now one is a 2 A and the other is a faster 3 A. I was really pleased using it initially, but after about 7 miles the power seem to cut and start again, i reckon i did about 10 -12 miles with some steep hills and the battery was spent, i had to cycle under my own power the last couple of miles home. Maybe i had it on for too long and should just use it for the steepest hills. For now the jury is out, would like to know how your power pack is performing.
sounds like they have many issues with battery holder and that's why they changed it
thanks for the review fellow canadian. I've been thinking to buy one because its 50% off now.. thanks again
They don't make it clear.
I don't see how it's anywhere near worth it if it's NOT on special for 50% off :p
@@Marcoosianism agree with you. Actually its 60% off for 3rd batch of shipping. Thats why my hand is still in my pocket 😁
@@lowellton_ville Funny enough I just received notice of the 60% discount :-) One thing I'm not sure I like however, is that in order for the motor to kick in you MUST pedal, and that the speed is directly related to pedal speed rather than the ability to have the motor run independently ... unless I'm not understanding the mechanism correctly.
Be prepared for a long wait. It’s been 8 months and we're still waiting!
Found this review because I'm just fitting my Swytch kit. I got it to work and it does seem to be effective. A few points. Agree with you that it isn't simple to fit and although my bike may be 'standard' quite a few bits needed some fiddling to get them to fit - the pedal sensor is a bit of a PITA. It may be the way I've fitted it or some other factor but when I stop pedaling there seems to be a fair bit of resistance from the hub? I am going to check to see if the disc brakes are not seated right. I bought one of the twist throttles however I can now see that fitting that will interfere with the gear change mechanism on the handle bar so that my now be superfluous. The kit itself does seem to be of a high standard. I hope it lasts.
Sorry your experience with Swytch was bad ... my experience has been really good. Of course I had to wait several months for my kit to arrive ... but it was not much longer than they'd said (after all, it's a "pre-order" ... they don't start building it till you order, so obviously it's going to take time to get to you). Used mine riding 12.5 km to work everyday from April till October, and enjoyed getting home 10 minutes earlier every day.
I ordered my kit in May of 2022 and just got confirmation Nov 16 2022 that my order is on its way. If your looking for a quick delivery Swytch is not the way to go. Hoping I have no issues when it arrives mid to late Dec. Would suggest that if your wanting to ride in the Spring or Summer of 2023 you order now.
agree- it takes for ages to come..took me 6 months
What is the cost of the conversion kit in canadian currency with the 50 percent off. Thanks
$950
Thanks for this! My experience of Swytch has been awful. They have had my money for two years. I'm still waiting for a 9mm MTB wheel. 61 emails later I'm having to threaten legal action to get my money back
Going back in time, would you still purchase this Swytch bike after such poor customer service and problems installing?
The kit is decent. Motor is too underpowered for my liking. After 2 months of riding I am happy with it.
The motor is too weak.
It actually works good . I am happy with it.
I bought a nice looking e bike a Wal-Mart for $650 a year ago paid exra for a full 4 year warranty still riding it goes 20 mph Thumb throttle or pedal assist settings only cost around a Grand with warranty and tax free shipping took under a week also bought a pedal assist only bike from there for around $ 400 and free return shipping if needed
An honest review of *your* experience but have to say my experience was better. Mine took about 4-5 months but I expected that and as it was winter, I wasn't in a rush. Plus, choosing to wait meant I got a decent discount.
I got a mechanic to fit it for me as my bike needed a good service anyway. I don't think he had any major issues but it does seem to depend on the particular bike.
I've had one problem in that power kept dropping out - not that regularly, but enough to be annoying. I contacted Swytch and although their responses weren't immediate, they did get back fairly quickly. I was instructed to do various checks of connections etc and after that, they concluded the problem was loose internal connections in the handlebar bracket. Having spoken to another user with a similar issue, I wasn't surprised to hear that. Anyhow, they sent me a new bracket and that seems to have done the trick.
PS I'm not sure why there was a problem with turning the strap back on itself for strength as I managed that quite easily.
Just wanted to update my last comment...as of Feb 12 2023 have only received empty promises and broken dates on arrival, Apparently it arrived in their Canadian warehouse Dec 19 2022 and I have still yet to receive my orders. Nothing takes almost 2 months to be shipped in Canada will keep you updated on when the Kits actually arrive.
i have the exact same bike, over here in AB, put my down payment on and got the portal to complete the order today. so... i went with the Go++, the arm on the sensor like you have, the throttle and no brake sensors... I take it you ordered the 622 rim as our bikes have 28 inch rims, with tires, they are 29 i guess....
So for the sensor, why didnt you cut all the tabs off and move the disc further away as the sprocket is tapered and there are two bolts on the universal arm to hold it in place, then no cutting or shaving of the electrical pickup? do you think that may have worked for you?
And did you have an option of a black rim, I only have one... silver. yuk. my bike is all black but i can spray paint it like all the natives in edmonton do stolen bikes at the tent cities I guess....
for the specialized crosstrail, did you order the 9 or 10 mm axle?
the 9 quick release or the 10 drop out?
i will cut out the angled clips and then use silicone on the tapered part...
You didn't mention the range?
it really varies because of the 5 settings it has, could easily go 50 km
The disk inserts are not identical. Different thicknesses to accommodate for gap differences. I have two kits. On one bike only the thinner insert fit. On the other bike only the thicker insert fit.
I had the same experience in ordering and receiving. Ordered in Jan 3023. Initially promised for April 2023. We planned a Georgia Mountains RV trip late June anticipating having the kits. Delays resulted in delivery promises by June 15. One kit arrived but the other received after we had departed the trip, coming in July. Response by Swytch is in the worst category, after a long non-existent category and then terse and wholly did satisfactory. They also blatantly lie or misstate things at their whim. This is a horribly managed company at best. I would never ever order from them again. I hope the product works. It’s far beyond the span of paying on the card to challenge the purchase and return everything. Likely part of their plan. Nice video. 🙏🏻 We are in Florida USA
Didn’t the sensor run up the peddle so you didn’t have to cut it lol
no it has to line up with the magnet on the round wheel
How is it holding up? Hopefully its fine but feel free to update me on how long it lasts.
short summers here so waiting for my second season, will update
The battery died already!!
battery completely died
Crazy “fast” to receive. I still don’t have mine and ordered it around the same time frame. Support is better if you email them. They have no real eta. I’m in the US.
Anyone who’s thinking of getting a Swytch kit better be prepared for the long wait. I ordered my kit on June 22 and it only just arrived last week after 6 months of numerous excuses.
What is even more unbelievable and damn frustrating for me was that they sent the wrong charger. I ordered the latest compact battery model which uses a rectangle shaped jack and they sent the charger with a round pin jack for their old model! And one of the nuts for the bolts that secure the magnetic disc is missing.
Surely the unit went through inspection before shipment!🤔
does the company give you an eta when you purchase it? If not, shame on you for puchasing without an eta and if they gave you a bogus eta, double shame on you for not canceling the charge via your ccc, aye...
@@robbert-hh1cc
I was highlighting the poor after sales and customer service that is annoying and as I said, be prepared for a very long wait for delivery. It is a shame as it is actually a brilliant product if only the company gets its act together.
The real shame is on you🤣
yes they do give you tracking and exact dates
Sounds like it's time to switch!
Good review. Your problems has been encountered by other people, missing parts in the kit and bad experience with the support.
I'd want to purchase One but my Heart Is not so strong .... 😂
Sorry for my bad english 😂
Do they give you brake sensors for cutting the motor while braking.
No they do not.
No they did not. The brakes are an issue. You better have perfect brakes or you may be in trouble.
You have to buy them additonally, they are optional.
It's pedal assist, do you pedal and brake at the same time?
@@paulwilde6130 My road legal peddle assit e-bike has brake sensors also ready built e-bikes have them also.
Just watched another review where a fella in America only got half of the kit, the sensor goes on the other down pipe hence why you had to cut yours
That's sucks with internet!
Hi, your Review is very realistic and objective. Would you be interested in doing a comparison video on our products Geeko kit and Swytch kit? If interested, I can give you a discounted price.
hi, i would be interested for sure, sorry for the late reply.
Sorry for the late reply, sure!
Looks terrible, thanks for the review. I did however find a phone number within a few minutes and the order terms does say up to 12 weeks on delivery, saying that I think I'll pass.
Ordered in June ‘22. Just received partial order today. The rim, charger with the wrong connector and the petal sensor is all I got in the box. That’s it. No instructions either. Frustrating to say the least. I’d never order again from this company if I had to do it all over.
similar to my experience!
I thought they made it clear that they dont start manufacturing until they have sufficient orders placed so ..............4-6 months from order placement is the norm and thats in the Uk .
We have been waiting for 9 months! Have set several emails and no reply!
Good thing I did my research and saw how much of a scam this is
Jack brown
And yet he gets item that don't fit!
@@Asad-2166 Dont get me wrong , i am not saying they are good , bad or indifferent .....just that that bit of info was available . part of the reason i never bought one .
@@d.b.4162 Yes, and they still advertise. Even though they can't supply what you've paid for
I don't see how a company like swytch can have all the right parts for your bike without some mods you have to do to make it work.
I'm beginning to regret my purchase. I was shipped a kit in December with a faulty pedal sensor. It failed within a week after never really operating properly, and no longer blinks with each passing magnet. Instead of shipping me another one, Swytch wants to do yet another zoom call. There are no available Zoom slots for more than a month, except at 3:00am-4:00am Pacific. After waiting months to have it shipped, it's now 6 weeks waiting for their tech people to take action. I sent videos showing what's wrong, but they aren't being responsive. I really want to love this product but I'm getting impatient. This is turning out to be an expensive mistake.
No way in hell I would have anything to do with this company
thanks a lot!!! I'm not gonna order it !!!!
No body wants to wait all that time
Their whole manufacturing process is ridiculous. Just build it and stock it like literally every other company. Then while you sell through that stock, manufacture more. It's really quite simple. Then they don't end up with a load of unhappy people waiting upwards of six months to receive what is essentially a battery pack that COULD be used with any other hub motor wheel.
this is an old video... the kit is much different... and it is a more mature company... I just received my kit today after ordering it September of last year... this was the expected time for delivery... as for the zip ties... best way to do it... and it says in the New Manuel to remove the clip for the sensor... and there is a more positive mount for the part on the crank... better review... ruclips.net/video/7xA9JrW6VpY/видео.html
A company that doesn't keep communication with its customers will not last long
Don't go with Swytch. They cannot deliver their product. My kit was supposed to arrive in March 2023. When it didn't arrive by April, I opened my first support ticket. Swytch told me the order was delayed due to the warehouse taking inventory for 2 weeks. The order tracking page was updated to show a mid-April expected delivery. 2+ weeks later and no update - so I opened my second support ticket. This time I was told that the warehouse was backed up and could not ship more that 180 units per business day and that they sold 5000 units. The tracking page was updated to show an early May expected delivery. Another 3 weeks went by with no updates so I opened my third support ticket and was told to be patient that the delivery was further delayed. I looked today and the expected delivery is now mid-June. After waiting 9 months to just place an order, I am now waiting another 9 months after giving them my money - and delivery is delayed over and over.
It’s been nearly a year now waiting for the kit. They keep promising but never deliver. Will never buy this product.
The sensor goes on the seat tube not the down tube. Sorry but you made a pigs ear of a simple job.
please explain!!!!!!!
My god what a sorry company.!
Swytch is up front about longish lead in time for kit deliveries. They don’t purchase the kits until they reach a certain volume of orders. I find it hard to believe you could have overlooked that part of the process. Swytch has been excellent in the two orders I have made - holding onto one prepaid kit for months, and responding promptly to customer service emails, and more. Some people like to grouch. You’ve been unrealistic in your expectations of them and have left out key info in your complaints about them, therefore casting doubt about your integrity and rendering your evaluations a waste of my time. Just sayin’
hello dummy man!
U may buy a long pedal axel and after will fit all those pice!!
Bless U!!
Why you got to be that guy and insult people? Not helpful, not necessary.
not everyone assembles bikes everyday
No way would I deal with this company. Delivery times are horrendous and the parts don't fit..who needs that nonsense ?
Thanks for this. It’s now July 2024 and I have been in communication with Swytch and they sent me excellent instructions to make sure that the kit will fit my recumbent bike. I am impressed with them so far and I’m assuming that they have improved their customer service. From your video and all the comments it seems to me that it’s a great product, but they became popular so quickly they were swamped with orders and weren’t prepared for that. A couple of English blokes invented a brilliant thing and didn’t expect it to sell so well. I hope you’re still enjoying your Swytch.
