14.5sec is possible with better tyres.
One of my friend's achieved that with his.
But handlings is where these car's excel.
They won the Australian motorkhana on release after all.
The fastest modified performance times I've seen from these car's is when they are equipped with turbocharging.

I forgot the doors have frameless glass which is something the other cars in the class don't have.
The red face instruments help remind you its a performance edition.
There's a product called Motsenbocker's lift off for removing adhesives. I had this porous tape that kept ripping so I left some on soaking overnight and it peeled right off in one piece.
It was good to share your walkaround.

It's been tiresome and with a lot of pressure particularly in the final videos... there were a lot of jobs and very little time to do them. Plus filming it at the same time doubles how long it takes! But it's been worth it, it's pretty much line-ball with my XR6T as to how much I like it.

Hot tip if you ever find yourself trying to remove old glue like on those side mouldings again, anything with d-limonene in it (stuff like Orange Power or De-solv-it, or sprays used for removing plastidip) will turn the adhesive to goo in seconds which you can just easily wipe or scrape off

Looks mint! I used to work at a place that imported JDM cars back in the 90's. The driver's mirror glass needed replacing for DOT compliance because they were convex glass. Soaking the plastic mirror frame in boiling water for a few minutes made life alot easier. Could remove old glass 95% of the time without breaking it. Just a thought for next time!

    Fantastic work Sean. 🎉
So many people skip the details, and do a “near enough” job - too eager to get a car back on the road. It’s this last 5% detail that takes a car from good to f’n great!
It takes incredible patience and perseverance to do what you have done. I applaud your efforts.
Hours invested with not much to show for it, but you know, and the viewers know, you’ve done it right.
You can’t put a dollar value on the time you spent getting all the tiny details spot-on, because you’d go broke paying someone to do it (and they’d do a crap job). It’s the definition of a labour of love.
The result is well worth it.
I can’t wait to see it buffed and badged.
Good thinking with the rally flaps.
I also put double sided tape on my rear plates - a one inch square in each bottom corner, and it keeps the boot lid nice & quiet. Depending on how high the plastic standoffs for the screws are, it sometimes needs a couple of layers to build it out level. The comment noting Velcro is clever, but I don’t take plates off to clean cars, so it’s overkill for me😊

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  5 месяцев назад +1

I usually put a solid rectangle of tape around the edges of the plate (set in about 1cm from the edges) to stop water or dirt going too far in behind it.

This is amazing to see and how far its come. The driving shots really bring me back to when we had one of these (Red, manual) from new, wish we'd kept it.

Having played around with my Vrx all weekend, I also am getting it ready for paint, so l replaced the front body kit. l now realise how cheaply made they are.
There are literally 8 10mm bolts holding the front end on. The body kits held together by about 12 screws and a couple of brackets are holding that to the car. I was surprised it was able to last 20 years, and the wheel arch flares are held on by the dust covers with a couple of clips. After doing my own fabrication and modifications, it's much more secure to drive now.

Well done Sean, it’s turned out lovely, job well done!
Shouldn’t put broken glass into a recycling bin, people have to sort the contents down the line and broken glass poses a risk to them.

I always thought glass items would break in the truck anyway, but maybe I'm wrong.

@@MotoringBoxTV yes it will break up in the truck, but the red bins go to landfill and don’t get handled again, machinery does the work.

this is the best stuff ive found for number plate mounting, solid but can be removed without incident and adapted to a new plate if needed easily..

Mate, please, if @RegularCarReviews does come to Melbourne later this year, you totally should show him your Ralliart Magna. This is superb.

Mate! Great work! I really like that you lean towards these sort of older 'Aussie' cars. I don't think there is another one of these on RUclips.
Again, great work. Keep it up!

That's a lovely looking car. Well done and congratulations!
Seeing the car with the respray reminds me of my bike. I resprayed it at the end of 2017, and I intended to give it a cut and polish after the clear coat had fully hardened (apparently, it takes a couple of weeks for the type of clear I used). Here we are, a bit more than six years later, I still haven't managed to get around to that job to make it absolutely gleam. Apart from one spot where the paint hasn't liked the heat from the engine (I did the final colour coat and put on the clear in one night, then rode it to an end of year show and shine at work the very next morning, so it probably got heated up a bit too soon), it still looks good enough to get me to stare at it with a sense of satisfaction, even without being cut and buffed. Let's just say that I know where your head and heart are. Enjoy! 😁

18:50 that deep pearl finish, haven't seen it for years. And I'm sure this clearcoat will last a lot longer than the factory finish if kept outdoors. But I know you will garage it.
