Just caught a call from Dave ramseys podcast. Caller was a "salesman" making 150-300k per year and complaining he didn't have enough money. Dave asked him what type of sales. His answer: FREIGHT BROKER. So someone's making money in the business. But not drivers
You mean double/triple freight broker? I love listening to the callers on Ramsey’s show. Someone called in the other day making a household income of 500k and she said it’s just so hard to pay off our debt. Such a sad problem, I’m playing a violin for them. I wish made I made half of that, I would have so many paid for toys!!!
Sh*t like this is the reason I’ll probably never become an owner operator. Between brokers shippers/receivers, the government, insurance, and maintenance it seems like the pie is split too many ways to leave the driver with a good living. More power to you fellas that are still trying to fight this broken system to provide for your families.
you mis understood what she said. you can get quotes from other companies, She was right that it doesn't matter if you go direct or thru an agency the price is the same
Been in the business for 30 plus years. There is a cost difference when using a insurance agent. Normally the fee for using a agent is 15% on top of your quote. That is charged by all agents for all policy’s. Does not matter what type of insurance you are getting.
Mine went up $7200, no at fault accidents. No tickets in any of my personal vehicle’s. However 3 separate accidents that weren’t my fault & no money paid out but it still went up $7200. Make it make sense!
The overall cost of repairs has gone up resulting in claims costing more. Because of this insurance companies aren’t making as much money so they are raising premiums to make up the difference. It’s the same thing that’s happening in Florida.
@@ryanjohnson8340 I get that but you’d think they’d go up on the premiums of the customers that contributed to the accidents not the customers who’ve maintained a great driving record.
They are pretty much going up across the board because most of the people (especially the 4 wheelers) that will run into you (literally, and other 4 wheelers) are uninsured. So there is no OTHER company to go after and they end up having to pay out on their client, and it's getting damn expensive.
I was in insurance-and like you-I knew my worth. My job wasn’t over when I sold a policy-it started. As an independent agent, I sold Progressive, as well as numerous other companies. You can shop it at any time- and change at any time. Like you, I had overhead. Insurance companies assume a ton of risk. There were 168,000 truck accidents in 2023-over half involved injury or death. The avg. insurance settlement is over $103,000 each. Insurance is a scam-until you need it.
Don’t feel too bad. I moved from Chicago to Dallas and when I renewed my commercial policy, it nearly tripled. Went from paying $3000 a year to 10,000 a year. When I asked why, each agent I spoke with literally told me it’s because people in Texas drive like idiots and claims are typically 75% higher in Texas than in Chicago
You are paying for every lawsuit and everyone else’s bad behavior. The insurance corporations aren’t going too pay for their own troubles they will pass it on too the customers.
For some reason, most people stick with their insurance carrier and they don’t do the work to shop around. Insurance companies know this so they try to push the price as far as they can each year. Shop around, get quotes, do the work and save money.

Your agent can shop around for you. You can also get a new agent if you aren’t happy with them. But you can get quotes weeks prior to your expiration date and have your new policy start the day your old policy expires. You 24:08 can do it in advance and it’s seamless.

Your current insurance company won't bid against itself, nor will it allow you to play one agent of theirs against another one of theirs.. When I was working and getting commercial insurance for my company, I always worked with a multi-company broker so he wasn't locked into a single insurance company. And even then, I would periodically get quotes from other brokers to be sure that my broker was in-line with the market. Sometimes premiums would stay the same, or even go down for one company, because they wanted more exposure to the particular industry we were in. In other years it might go up unreasonably for the company we had been with, because they were trying to lose business in our state or industry. You can certainly start getting quotes from other companies and or brokers now, to go in effect when your current policy expires. Just not from other agent brokers of your current policy issuer.
The insurance premium is based off your “group”. Who is the group? You might ask, that’s your state. So, the insurance company tries to cover their operating cost and the required amount the state mandates for them to keep on hand “cash”. More defaults, claims, not to mention that most trucking companies are holding freight hostage demanding more pay. And never sign up with a “factoring company” come time to raise capital or borrow money banks will deny it all together. Because your company’s “AR” Account Receivables are technically not yours anymore.
I know health insurance is getting bad too. My local pharmacy is closing because they have been getting issues with reimbursement from some health insurance companies. On top of that, they are having issues with new regulations. Like this pharmacy owner have said, "There is no easy way to keep small independent pharmacies anymore. You need to go with a larger chain to get anywhere now." We got lucky here. A larger chain pharmacy did buy this pharmacy assets, and this chain will be open around Labor Day, but they will keep the old pharmacy going till they convert another building for their use.
i agree on the insurance , our house went up from 2000 to 5200 a year , no claims , nothing for over 24 years and then get that big as bill is horseshit and not a thing you can do about it , not the same as what your situation is really but moneywise it is , got it lower than what i was paying same coverage ,so luckily it worked out better
Insurance and brokers was the two main reason I sold my truck last year, because I realized I was being rob daylight. Brokers can keep 50% of the load pay without leaving their bed 😅😂 Insurance is just a big money maker
Insurance put my 3 year old Hot Shot business out of business. No claims or tickets and multiple DOT passing inspections. I did the shopping around but the best rate was one and a half times my starting year. I was prepared for it for the first two years where my profits equaled about $1.75 an hour with me working 65 hours a week. I was facing the wind and taking a massive piss.
you can't get an insurance quote without your loss run report, so our agent holds our loss run report until after locking in quotes from all the big companies, once locked in insurance companies refuse to quote for any other agents, which means we are unable to get any quotes at all until our policy has expired, which sets off alarms bells and nasty letters from fmcsa not to mention your safer safety score, plus it stops all work until a new boc3 issued by your insurance reaches the fmcsa, the whole process can take a couple weeks which is why agents are not scared to steal your money, they know your trapped
You can't quote Progressive if you're already with Progressive. Their system verifies the DOT and current carrier. They won't quote against themselves and the price would be the same.
I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is you don't need to sign a piece of paper for a contract. if you buy milk from a shop, that's a contract. if you park in, say, walmart's car park, they have a sign at the entrance with terms and conditions, that's a contract. if you sign up to youtube they ask you to agree to the terms and conditions, that's a contract, etc.
My wife is an AVP Underwriting Officer with trucking insurance for Travelers. Mostly fleet insurance, but maybe she can give you some sort of guidance.
I filled out a carrier packet with Coyote a month ago and every time I would call on a load they would tell me that my approval was pending but would never give me a reason why, or tell me what else they needed from me. Then I heard about them selling and figured that might have something to do with it. Still no answer as of today 🤦♂️
so what she said was that she could not quote you since she was a rep that was contracted with you current carrier , but you can let any of the other companies you are hearing from quote a rate for you to change over to. after the old policy laps the new policy automatically activates so there is no laps. but since the person who you had on the phone was contracted to the same company you have currently she can't requote you aside from that policy. but if you have Progressive now you can get any other company to quote a policy but you don't want them to be affiliated with the same company in any way and you can do that at any time between now and the laps date.
I left progressive and went to great west. I pay half of what I was paying at progressive. Get quoted from them before u go back with them. I got the number if u need it.
You can go direct with insurance and it is cheaper but the problem is it’s only a couple of companies that do commercial auto insurance and progressive pretty much got it on lock
@JustTruckin I have an f150, and a little sports car, but always loved the seating position, and visibility of a van, but I get it with "red wheel" and Tdub (that's really a dudes van lmao 🤣
The insurance lobby is so powerful they basically have the states lawmakers in their back pocket. The best way to keep upping rates for no reason is to basically eliminate the opportunity for competition. I'm doubtful you'll get much of a better deal than the renewal increase because at the end of the day they all work together to make money, and a ton of it, from the everyday grinding worker. Good luck.
Inflation and the lawyers advertising on your tv and everywhere else "Have you been hit by a commercial vehicle?!?" are the cause of your increases. It isn't anything else other than that.
That call sounded like a scam to me.... I go to Progressive directly - online; never called an agent got my policy online. AND the requirement was sent to the FMCSA.
Just so everyone knows insurance is a nasty business. and is only getting worse. Im a agent out of Texas the word around the industry is there hoping to see some return to normal late this year to next year. ( meaning rates will drop and we wont be seeing these crazy hikes in premiums ). As an agent I can tell you the most one a single agent is making is around 7% now the agency they work for might make 10% off the written premium ( that a amount it cost for the policy with out any fees) so at most the most I make selling a trucker say a 18k policy would be 10% to the agency so 1800 then lets say that the agency give commison based off what you sold for the month so if I sell 25k because the market sucks and no one want to change insurance right now or can afford it I only get 1750 in commission. this all is not a one side fight everyone is feeling it.
man I can't believe (yes I can) that your insurance went up that much! sheesh. literally everything is more expensive year by year. Hope it works out for you my friend.
Justin if you can't get a hold of the insurance company, find out where it's located an go there an ask them directly, I would love to see that, what there doing is absolute BS it's unfair, thanks for sharing

My wife does travel agencies on the side. She gets paid on the back end. I think insurance is the same way. You may not pay less going direct. But going through and agency help someone else out.
Im own a insurance agency in florida. Insurance is now doubt a pain right now. Insurance dont seem to be set up for the consumer. Sorry your dealing with these issues. As an agent and a agency owner, I hate this market as much as you. I would recommend finding a local to you independent agent, and shop every year.
The issue I have is yes it’s gone up all over with insurance and it’s because of many different issues with the main one being economy. The price of everything has gone up to include cars and parts to repair them, BS lawsuits when an accident occurs of the shady ambulance chasing lawyers who can get you big money on your car wreck by sending you to a chiropractor for a few visits that probably has a personal relationship with said lawyer driving up payouts so the lawyer gets their 33% off of someone else’s pain and suffering if there really is any!! The way cars are designed and built are causing them to be totaled when in the past they wouldn’t have been, driving up the cost of payouts. But also it depends on where you live for personal vehicles, if I didn’t live in such a populated area of SC my insurance would be cut in half of what I pay now and that is what the insurance company told me.
That's not right with daycare with insurance but you are correct Justin whoever does the insurance wants to make that extra money to go on vacation $5,000 is a lot of money what did he do to deserve a 5,000 for insurance on your vehicle all he does is sit in the office all day the insurance person it's not right that the truck drivers got a deal would somebody be in greedy I'm praying you fine for insurance for your business in your truck
My car insurance just went up $35 dollars a month for no reason in NC. And my last little bumper accident dropped off 2 months ago. Should have gone down. The state gave them permission to jack the rates. Or some BS. Government sanctioned Rip off
Justin, you’re entering a verbal agreement/contract with the broker/agent/insurance coy and that’s why all these phone call to businesses are recorded to capture/record the contract!!
Wow on commercial truck insurance. Boy things sure have changed in the insurance industry. Just like with healthcare. I tried to get approval to get into one of the two hospital facilities just to be able to get three hours of physical therapy and of course I got denied because the bottom line is the money is more important than the patient. I just go the ok from my foot doctor on June 10th to be able to weight bear on my left foot. It has taken months to heal due to a diabetic foot ulcer back in October of 2023 when I had two foot surgery the same week. Everyone please listen to me if you are type one or two diabetic keep up with your health. If you are overweight lose the weight or if there are other underlying factors do what you have to do to protect your health. Your health is so important and I don’t want any of you going through what i had to deal with over the last few months. I decided to get serious about my weight lose and in three years time I have lost 140 lbs. I didn’t use any fancy diets or had weight lose surgery I cut back on portions and sugar and was losing one to two pounds a week. When I didn’t lose any weight that week or even gained some weight I readjusted and got back to my weight loss of one to two pounds a week. At first your weight loss will be water loss then it will be fat loss. The biggest thing is if I can do this you can too. You must be in this for the long haul and I know it will get frustrating at times but you can do this. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ helped me with my weight loss and he can help you too. He is the ultimate healer but remember he does things in his time not ours. You can count on him because he will never leave you. I thank him every day for what he does in my life. If you don’t know him as your personal savior please read The Book of John in the New Testament King James Version Bible. Pay close attention to chapter 3. To God be the glory Amen and Amen! God bless you all!
She has no idea what she is talking about. You're a CONTRACT CARRIER(own tag, own insurance, own MC#). She is thinking you leased on to someone(their tag, their insurance, their MC#) HUGE DIFFERENCE!
Insurance companies, not the agents, establish the rates and they are based on various factors with the biggest contributor being claims/losses. This is spread across the entire book of business regardless of your history. It isn't fair but it is the only way insurance companies stay in business. So many weather events causing dmg, large publicized accidents with huge payouts, cost of vehicle repairs exploding, crime/vandalism and increasing wages and company overhead hits insurance companies too. This is all passed down to us. You can always get quotes and bind a new policy before your old one expires, then cancel your current carrier. You do not need to wait until expiration!!! But I agree with the other commenter, an insurance company will not bid against itself. You can contact your agent and request discretionary credits or suggest they take a reduced commission as some do offer that.
Hey Justin, you definitely CAN get quotes from other companies. You were being led down the wrong path. She’s a Progressive employee and was certainly following a company path to keeping you on their company books. Try your old buddy from Florida or talk to your prep company for a different and independent advice.

Normally if tou havent made any claims your policy should go down. My PL got down to $550 and then they just refused me insurance after over 10 years without a claim. I got a new policy same day and cheaper because of my perfect record.
Justin you’re right. Insurance is a racket. Shoot the government makes money on every part of your life starting at birth. Your birth certificate number is tied to a cusip number/stock number which is traded on the stock market and is worth millions. Along with everything you’ve signed for like your drivers license, social security number, loans, mortgages you name it.
Everything going up Just because you haven’t got tickets doesn’t mean rates won’t go up 🤷♂️ You have to pay for the foreigners that tear up everything Cost of living insurance agents don’t work for free just like you want freight rates to go up the insurance agents gonna get theirs too
Are they forcing you to put a In cab camera in your truck too my son is leased to prime and they are forcing In cab cameras because of Walmart and other companies
Everything went up under covid, insurance for a good driver is really a ripoff, if you are a terrible driver, then ins companies rates go up, but when it was implemented by law then insurance is nothing more than a non deductible tax that will always go up, can u say raquet
All types of insurance is very expensive. In California fire insurance not available in some areas, the homeowner assumes the risk on his very expensive house😂😂

Go talk to the customer and get the customer your self. All you need is a Master Freight Contract, you already have Cargo Insurance, so you are good.
I filled out a carrier packet with Coyote a month ago and every time I would call on a load they would tell me that my approval was pending but would never give me a reason why, or tell me what else they needed from me. Then I heard about them selling and figured that might have something to do with it. Still no answer as of today 🤦♂️
Ridiculous right 😑
so what she said was that she could not quote you since she was a rep that was contracted with you current carrier , but you can let any of the other companies you are hearing from quote a rate for you to change over to. after the old policy laps the new policy automatically activates so there is no laps. but since the person who you had on the phone was contracted to the same company you have currently she can't requote you aside from that policy. but if you have Progressive now you can get any other company to quote a policy but you don't want them to be affiliated with the same company in any way and you can do that at any time between now and the laps date.
With insurance the word is 'corporate greed'. If we get a consumer centered economy that would go down....
It’s SAD
I left progressive and went to great west. I pay half of what I was paying at progressive. Get quoted from them before u go back with them. I got the number if u need it.
You can go direct with insurance and it is cheaper but the problem is it’s only a couple of companies that do commercial auto insurance and progressive pretty much got it on lock
Honestly, I'd rather drive that nice minivan around town, than a huge SUV, but I m old, and really don't care what other folks think anymore 😂
I love that Van ♥️🙏🏽
Insurance is based on credit rating, if you pay monthly seems higher then paying every 6 months, , just wondering, ?
Mine went up too and their excuse was the area’s market I’m in 🙄
Just so everyone knows insurance is a nasty business. and is only getting worse.
My personal insurance in Michigan went down a whole $9!!!! Turning 26 saved me $9, but cost me $2000 in dental surgery 😂😂😂
man I can't believe (yes I can) that your insurance went up that much! sheesh. literally everything is more expensive year by year. Hope it works out for you my friend.
Justin if you can't get a hold of the insurance company, find out where it's located an go there an ask them directly, I would love to see that, what there doing is absolute BS it's unfair, thanks for sharing
Justin, your current insurance agent can get you cheaper quotes, they shop around the different companies and get you a better policy.
I wish I could have caught the live stream today because it was cool seeing TANK being so animated during the video 😂😂😂!!! Maybe he won’t be driving like dada and we’ll be seeing him in the movies!!! Great day of content, have a great delivery tomorrow 🤞and hopefully we get a chance of seeing you!!! Safe travels brother!!!
Tank the superhero 😎🙏🏽
@@JustTruckin I love that boy he’s a carbon copy of my boy at that age and he always puts a smile on my face with the things he does!!!
My wife does travel agencies on the side. She gets paid on the back end. I think insurance is the same way. You may not pay less going direct. But going through and agency help someone else out.
What is the actual cost to your business out of $5000 if it is a deductable business expense?
Im own a insurance agency in florida. Insurance is now doubt a pain right now. Insurance dont seem to be set up for the consumer. Sorry your dealing with these issues. As an agent and a agency owner, I hate this market as much as you. I would recommend finding a local to you independent agent, and shop every year.
My AUTO insurance, the vehicle I barely drive, went up over $500 a year.
I will say, she gave a good dance around the questions. Is there an independent insurance agency that you can use?
Progressive can't work around their brokers. You can get quotes from other brokers or other companies.
My business insurance went up 35% last year. Its just sickening what’s happening
Cash needs more dominos like BIGWELL had in the robots movie!!!!😂😂😂
lol
Or some BS. Government sanctioned Rip off
Great vlog but it just shows that to a degree insurance companies are robbing so and sos but also great to see cash tagging along for the pickup 😊😊😊
Justin, you’re entering a verbal agreement/contract with the broker/agent/insurance coy and that’s why all these phone call to businesses are recorded to capture/record the contract!!
Mine went up 9k currently shopping. Might sign on with the company I haul for.
Great advice
@@JustTruckinI think someone was trying to sweet talk you to keep you as a customer.anyways it will work out for you it got to .Just a thought call directly to some ins companies that have commercial ins .might work.stay cool .
Because we have let the federal government get way too involved. Thats the problem.
The people who have accidents etc is why insurance is going up.seems .I had my personal car ins go up I called and I was told it up because of uptick of accident in your area I said well raise there ins or drop them I said I got cheaper so I dropped them.
Have you thought about including all your insurance needs under a bundle policy?
U might want to try OOIDA. OWNER OPERATOR INDEPENDENT DIVERSE ASSOCIATIONS.
Check out haulers insurance company out of tennessee. We had our commercial insurance changed over to them this past year saving us three grand or more a year
I had Great American insurance they didn't do me like this I only had it on my truck and I had my truck on with a good company
The newer the truck the higher
I had a 2006 Freightliner insurance was $256 a month with a truck that's 4 years old can be around $900 to$1,000 a month
My company pick my loads
I had major problems with my truck last December and 1/4/24 my Dad passed away at age 79 with a vain busted between brain and skull was high blood pressure and a stroke because of this I gave up being a own operator I sold my truck and went as a company driver for now my dad would be 80 next September 6

Prayers 🙏🏽 for your Dads memories
"Life is like a box of fireworks, you never know what your gonna get" 🤣
Being free is in jepordary, just as much as being an independent/ entrepreneur in today's world!!
Sit down with several brick and mortar agencies and collect information
The insurance company's can do what ever the want ,I live in New Jersey it sucks!
Good morning yall wow crazy insurance prices and there all going up
Hi Justin, why not try Jessica Rush of 10-4 Insurance. Shymone always mentions her.👍
I agree , insurance is a scam . my homeowners insurance want 300 bucks a year . for no reason .
Did you really say you’ve only taken 6 loads in the last couple months? Or you mean through that broker?
Trough Coyote
Justin how it works is when you go with another insurance company they'll take care of the transfer stuff make sure you get your current insurance non-renewal in writing.
Edit: change insurance companies theyll sign everything itll take over the same day your progressive expires
Normally if tou havent made any claims your policy should go down. My PL got down to $550 and then they just refused me insurance after over 10 years without a claim. I got a new policy same day and cheaper because of my perfect record.
I'm not a truck driver but I've seen lots of swift drivers accidents
Justin you’re right. Insurance is a racket. Shoot the government makes money on every part of your life starting at birth. Your birth certificate number is tied to a cusip number/stock number which is traded on the stock market and is worth millions. Along with everything you’ve signed for like your drivers license, social security number, loans, mortgages you name it.
Everything going up
Just because you haven’t got tickets doesn’t mean rates won’t go up 🤷♂️
You have to pay for the foreigners that tear up everything
Cost of living insurance agents don’t work for free just like you want freight rates to go up the insurance agents gonna get theirs too
Are they forcing you to put a In cab camera in your truck too my son is leased to prime and they are forcing In cab cameras because of Walmart and other companies
No cameras but I feel for Prime drivers
@@JustTruckin my son’s lease is up on August 10th he is going to look for a local job in Oregon
That’s not true, different insurance agencies will quote you 30 days within your old policies expiring. They can give you a quote.
Justin try them all. Geico. Sentry. The Hartford.
Also don't let it lapse because then you will need a no loss letter. Get your loss runs now. Tell them to send you a loss run report for 5 years ok.
We are and progressive still $5-$10k better 😑🙏🏽😮
@@JustTruckin it is a really tough market.
Switched from Progressive because of the 5k price hike they tried to pull on me
Everything went up under covid, insurance for a good driver is really a ripoff, if you are a terrible driver, then ins companies rates go up, but when it was implemented by law then insurance is nothing more than a non deductible tax that will always go up, can u say raquet
All types of insurance is very expensive. In California fire insurance not available in some areas, the homeowner assumes the risk on his very expensive house😂😂
You have to be careful insurance agents tent to manipulate info on your policy in order to add more money for their commission
It happened to me that they were using my wife credit report instead of my
The Insurance company has gotten ridiculous. Especially now it can be a pain just to make a claim on the policy when you need it. The part of the extra your paying probably going to dedicated teams that are there to review claims and find any reason they can to deny it.
You can switch from company to company at any time. Progressive is saying that they cant steal business from an agent by requoting you.
The insurance industry is just ridiculous. I've had issues with agents too.
