    I have a lure knocker that slides down the fishing line but it has it's own line. So, I can keep the fishing line taut while I bounce the knocker against the stuck lure. It's a little bigger, about 6 ounce.

    As a musky fisherman some of my lures are rather costly or valuable because I made them myself. My lure retriever is at least 5 ounces with chains below the weight and a separate line. The retriever is clipped to the line. Hasn’t failed yet. I use this when my 20 ft extendable snag pole won’t work.

      @yakkittymack  День назад

      @@jamesathendune9026 I can imagine. I've never fished for musky, but I've seen videos and those are some pretty mean fish! yeah that's the way to go. pretty much the only design that works in this case, mine is similar.
      often times it won't catch the hooks though, especially when the lure is snagged with its front treble, and then I have to throw it by hand instead of clipping to the line :)

      by the way, speaking of DIY lures, I am using weak(ish) split rings on mine. the idea is, they won't get undone on a fish, because no fish can pull with enough force (the ones I'm using let go at 17 kg, I tested them myself), and the reel drag will give much earlier anyway, but they are weak enough to straighten out on a snag before the line breaks (I use a ~80 lb, PE #6 line).

      @yakkittymack I will try it soon. One of my favorite spots is a riverbank that has a 20 ft flat ledge to a jumbly rock dropoff into the deeper water current. Retrieval gets hung on jumbly rock if you don't clear ledge at right time. Difficult part will be getting high enough angle to get downward momentum on egg weight. I've got lots of 1 oz to 3 oz egg weights, so it won't cost anything to try. Thanks!

    isn't gonna work (often or at all) for hard plastic lures with dual treble hooks.

    • @s_s-g4d
      @s_s-g4d День назад +1

      or maybe it will for smaller lures. possible. for larger lures I use a similar thing that's sent down the line, but it has some wire loops sticking forwards from its front end that are designed to grab the trebles and a rope tied to the rear end to pull it back with. and even that sometimes doesn't work, when the lure is snagged with the front treble. in that case I simply throw it by hand aiming at the lure and hoping to eventually catch the hooks.

    • @yakkittymack
      @yakkittymack  День назад

      @@s_s-g4d I can't speak for using it from the bank as I only fish from a kayak or boat. However, I have used it on crank baits, chatterbait, Texas rigged worms, and of course the jig. @@yakkittymack sounds good. might try something similar, maybe, but on the other hand it has to be too heavy I'm afraid: muskie-size lures (but I'm fishing for pike), like about 3 oz generally, and it will have to be able to reach the lure considering the far from vertical angle when the snag is far enough away.
