@Sakuno01 -- All of the officers holding the swords are in the groom's squadron and are his friends so it was all in the family, so to speak. Everyone in a uniform at this wedding is an officer.
@Sakuno01 Well with all that these guys go through for their duties... The deserve to do things in an extravagant fashion... And for the "prefer a friend of my husband" part, just remember the phrase "brothers in arms"

I don´t know how it is this ceremony in my country (venezuela) but if I were to marry a military and going through this I would rather prefer a friend of my husband to do it that a extranger :S. Military people certainly has such a extravagant rituals in weddings....
I wouldn't like getting spanked. In one of these videos , in the comments, a marine officer, a seargent or whatever, said that when his wife was spanked, she turned around and hit the guy who did it on the stomach! Well, that's even!😄😄 Good for her. I would have done the same 🤗
@Sakuno01 -- This ceremony is a Navy tradition and that is part of it. She is actually "marrying" the Navy because her husband is IN the Navy. We were waiting for the spank to happen!
All branches of the US military have this custom, not just the USN. There is at least one video of a wedding whose sword detail included a sailor, a soldier, an airman, and a Marine.
Not formally, but the tap recognizes the fact that spouses have their own duties. If the bride was another sailor, there would not have been a sword tap.

I did not think that headgear was worn with Formal Dress (the uniform which the groom is wearing) unless an outer coat is being worn.
