  • Wedding of Kees Punter and Emily Kinner on 9 April 2011. Kees graduated from USMA (West Point) in 2009 and cross-branched into the United States Marine Corps. Kees returned to USMA to be married at the West Point Protestant Chapel and the video is of the military sword arch performed there.....every military service was represented in the sword arch.

    All the services are represented...Marine Corps from the groom, father and friend. Navy from an uncle, Air Force from a brother-in-law, Army from the friends that went through West Point with the groom.

      Connar Lesko
      You were 14 when you asked this question. You were civilian and didn't know better. Navy isn't apart of the Marines. That's the Navy's officer Winter Blue Uniform. The Men wearing Gold Stripes are Army Officers in dress blues. The Soldier with the Blue Cord on the left is Army Infantry(sky blue/gold shoulder boards and blue pipping) while the Soldier on the right is in the Army Artillery Branch(he has red/gold shoulder boards and pipping).Air Force only has a blue service uniform.

    • @JohnnyAppleseed12384
      @JohnnyAppleseed12384 5 лет назад +1

      @@davidcraft4636 The Marines are a part of the Navy. In fact the Marine Corps isn't actually a branch rather just a section of the Navy, and the Navy dress uniform does not have a blood stripe.

    • @onemercilessming1342
      @onemercilessming1342 5 лет назад

      Connar Lesko--The Navy is NOT part of the Marines. There was a time when the US Marine Corps, in time of war, came under the jurisdiction of the US Navy (and so did the Coast Guard). That is no longer the case. Uniform requirements change and no branch of the military likes to break the tradition of uniforms. They are expensive to purchase, there can be quite a few variations (work uniforms, tropicals, desert camouflage, digitalized camouflage, jungle camoflage, full dress, evening dress, etc.) and they are not cheap to maintain in inspection readiness. However, there are POTUS who like to dick around with the uniforms. Obama was one of them.

      @@JohnnyAppleseed12384 Incorrect. The USMC is part of the Department of the Navy, but is a separate branch of the Department from the USN. If the USMC was not a separate service, it would not be represented on the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

    Why was there a Navy Captain and Air Force Lt. Colonel in the arch for a Marine 2nd Lieutenant?

    • @onemercilessming1342
      @onemercilessming1342 5 лет назад +4

      Benjamin Pulminskas--There is no requirement for the participants in sword arch to be of the same military branch or even the same rank. There are a number of families in this nation whose family members serve in succession generations. Some of us can even trace our unbroken line of service back to the incorporation of the the Army, Navy and Marines. ANY graduate of ANY military academy can choose, upon graduation, which branch of the military in which to serve. Some can also, in the course of a career, cross-train into another branch. It is likely that these other service members are instructors at the academy with whom the family has a long-standing relationship, or they are members of either the bride or groom's family who were available for the honor. It IS an honor to be in the arch of swords and that slap on the butt the bride gets as she exits the arch is to remind her that, yes, there is pomp and circumstance and tradition in our armed services, but there is also a price to pay for that privileged position as wife of a member of the armed services, regardless of branch. The men and women in our armed forces know that the position of spouse is, after the member's obligation to serve, the toughest job in the military.

      arelo T--The smack on the butt with the sword before exiting the arch is a reminder to the spouse that yes, there is pomp, circumstance, and privilege in being the spouse of a military member. But there is a price to pay for it as well and sometimes that price is the ultimate sacrifice of the military member. It is well to keep all that in mind.
