@@NomadArchitecture Unfortunately no. There are only some haircloth tents of the semi-nomadic "Yörük" people (original Turks who migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia and kept their lifestyle to a certain degree) in various geographical pockets in the mountains of the Mediterranean, Aegean and Central Anatolian regions of Turkey. These tents are usually made of black hair goats. The Yörüks winter in plains and lowlands and then migrate to higher elevations by mid-May. Since they are fond of independence and are rebellious, the Ottomans had forcibly settled a large majority of Yörüks. The last remaining Yörüks are mostly based in Mersin, Antalya, and Karaman provinces.

I visited Kyrgyzstan for a while. Beautiful place. They have some serious horse culture and hunt with big birds. They were kind and seemed to love bright colors. I was interested because I love horses too. I’m afraid their horses are too small for big guys from the US. Of course I never said that to them. Texas
Sandra Westley I suppose they never get big, too much hard work, and probably not a lot of food, other than the animals I don’t really see much food, or what they eat.
I had so many hunters from the US. Those horses will outperform most of their competition. There were days when hunters and guides used to go at around 5 am and come back around 6 or 7 pm. None of those horses complained, lol. No food, just some snow or water and the elevation was so high, that it was difficult for a human being to walk fast.
What a wonderful film and people doing such clever work... though they do look tired and perhaps not well paid? A group of us under supervision of Hal Wynne Jones (who I think learned from village folk of Eastern Turkey in the 80's) built yurts and learnt felt cover making under supervision of (sorry, I cannot recall her name from Lapland) in the mid 90's in England. This is such an interesting comparison. thank-you to the people here and to film makers. Screws in the wheel here rather than rawhide strips and dowel ...machinery cleaning and carding instead of people gathered together to share the process.. machine to friction the big felts. Traditionally, ribs from coppiced wood(branches taken from ash, willow and other northern hemispere trees without killing the tree so it could live and provide wood for many years) were wet and heated by putting them in a moving stream, then stuck into a big pile of sheep (or whatever fleeced animal) dung. (heaped dung thus composting heating and steaming the wood to make it pliable again if it has dried out).. then bent in jigs as indicated by this film (for the wheel put around a round concrete form)... Then traditonally 100 sheep fleeces were often used.... placed on a mother felt (already made felt) and layed out as shown here.. but sometimes cleaned and carded on the mother felt outside under the sky, then fluffed and beaten with sticks to card. People from the village gathered together around the mother felt to prepare the fleeces this way. Then they peed on the wool arranged on the mother felt (with or without animal fat/soap) to warm and prepare for friction of felting. A large straight tree branch (small log) at least 6-7 inches in diameter and long as the width of the mother felt and layer of new wool was then placed at one end. The whole lot (mother felt on the outside, new warm wet cleaned, carded fleeces on the inside) rolled around the log. This was then attached by felt ropes (felt is so so strong) about an inch thick... to the back of a horse.. so that when the horse moved forward, the log rotated between two ropes: 1 running from either end of the log and attached to the each side of the horse... thus the horse had the job of trotting or walking about for a few hours to create the rolling movement-friction needed to felt the new rug.. which when finally unrolled, emerged separate to but from it's place next to the mother felt. Felt about an inch thick was thus made by many people together A celebration of the gift of wool from the sheep (so many healing and warming properties in wool...Sheep apparently shares the word 'mother' in several European dialects from more traditional peoples... So that is the new felt made..heavy and strong as anything... incredible insulation when used as the walls of a yurt... rain outside... wood stove inside... so when the felts were saturated with rain... the stove inside and sun finally outside would dry the felt walls first from the inside and outside, leaving the water last to dry out from the middle. This inside layer of water last to be warmed before it dried... with the insulation of the rest of the wool around it remained warm and wet the longest to act as a form of central heating until it dried out. Good to see the band being hand woven here... The band and the wheel are literally pivotal and binding for the whole structure. Incredible film showing a slightly more mechanised and metallic approach. I have my yurt which we built in England and I lived in in Wales 25 years ago. I am looking forward to living in it again in Australia... need to make a mosquito net cover for the summer and the felt would be good warmth in winter in some parts of Australia. I love yurts. Like a return to the womb. Thanks again for this lovely film.

And one more thing , they not live like this ,or do things this way , they recording an old folkcraft . Look at what they wearing, maid in India or China, just like yours . No need for patronizing them !They are not some kind of "Nobel Savages" they just like you or me
Thank you for this...For those of us that know, there is several ways that Yurts or Ger's are made. I really enjoyed this thank you again!~

Very interesting to see how they make the felt. Water, heat, friction. It’s all there

Wow! What beautiful hard work :) I could never do it. Bless you all!
Какие красивые коврики делают восхищаюсь молодцы🙋♀️❤️🌿👍🤔
I’m loving your channel .
I wonder if the guy making the hoop always has this guy assisting him 🥴
I’m impressed with the way they are bending that wood , how they fix the lattice , making the felt . In fact I’m impressed with all of it .
I think I would have liked the odd , sporadic V/o giving us some guidance and information as to what we are seeing or maybe a wee caption .
Obviously a lot is self explanatory . I’m just inquisitive. ❤️
Yeah, that man was super annoying, lol
a fascinating film with authentic handicrafts by local people
It's a highly complex technology to make their shelter. It's also very creatively decorated. I loved it. And their women are all good & beautiful.
Thank you for making such a wonderful documentary and letting me appreciate it!! As a being of a human, I respect your sincere life and culture♥♥♥ Someday in my life time, I want to visit there if you allow me^^ MANY MANY thanks from Seoul Korea. I wish all of you there are happy and longevity life^^♥♥♥

Absolutely fascinating video, thank you. Yes it's a pity some part was lost.

I would deffinately pay to have one of these made for me to live in and sell my house. Off to watch a bamboo house being made.
2000 to 4000 $ you can buy. But while purchasing it, you need to learn how built it.
Those yurts are not expensive. I am from Kyrgyzstan and can help to buy one if you or anyone else is interested.
Such a great video documenting a process I'm sure hasn't changed much in 1000 years!!
Well there are little pottery figurines of yurts on carts 2000 years old, so you are within 50% accuracy whcih is not bad!
@@robwestley7370 you can visit Kyrgyzstan and to see what people eating !
It's kyrgyz horse, is not big as in your country maybe, but they climb the mountains, withstand low temperature.
I had so many hunters from the US. Those horses will outperform most of their competition. There were days when hunters and guides used to go at around 5 am and come back around 6 or 7 pm. None of those horses complained, lol. No food, just some snow or water and the elevation was so high, that it was difficult for a human being to walk fast.
does anybody else think these people are more free than us ? what a life they live! i dont think they will be needing an Ikea anytime soon .

This was then attached by felt ropes (felt is so so strong) about an inch thick... to the back of a horse.. so that when the horse moved forward, the log rotated between two ropes:
1 running from either end of the log and attached to the each side of the horse... thus the horse had the job of trotting or walking about for a few hours to create the rolling movement-friction needed to felt the new rug.. which when finally unrolled, emerged separate to but from it's place next to the mother felt.
