- Please join us on a #walkingtour of Lincoln Castle built on a Fortress hilltop by William the Conqueror. The Castle bears scares of the bloody battles fought by opposing forces who sought control of this strategically important stronghold. Executions by hanging also took place here between 1817 & 1859.
During this time the Castle had many Royal Visitors including King Henry 2nd in the late 12th Century. King John spent several days in Lincoln in September 1216 before he lost his jewels & baggage in the wash within 2 weeks of his visit he died of dysentery. King Henry 8th & Catherine Howard rode to the Castle in August 1541.
The Charter sent to Lincoln in 1215 was read at the Sheriff's Court in Lincoln Castle before being placed in the Cathedral treasury for safe keeping. Lincoln has retained the #magnacarta ever since & is only 1 of only 4 surviving originals.
We shall take a #tour of the towers & see the amazing carvings in the stone.

We enjoyed the full castle walking tour, Amanda. Loved your explanation of some of the history there, albeit some of it bloody. Interesting to know that the Magna Carta was first read at the Lincoln Castle and that one of the originals still are close by. One of the first important legal documents. The US Constitution is molded with many of these ideas. Well preserved and maintained for it's age and stunning views from the ramparts. Enjoyed it. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks so much & yes the Castle has so much history a great place to visit
That was so interesting, the history of this place is amazing. Great looking place as well as the views were stunning. Great video 😊
Thank you it was a fantastic place to visit and so much history the footage in the prison wasn't great with the lighting and we couldn't take any pictures of the Magna carta either

Amazing walking tour through the castle, it's cool to see, that there are so much to see inside and outside. Cool dragon figures, that they have added to the castle. Stunning view over the castle and area from the wall. It's amazing to see, that so many fine details have survived.
