Hey Scott, that glass base is for a Victorian cruit set. The holes on the sides of the base are where the twisted wire handle was. I think the center hole was for a glass toothpick holder.
You could be right......I need a photo reference to be sure. I am aware of cruit sets and have seen them before. I'm hoping to find a photo to be sure. Thank you for the suggestion and I think it's a valid guess!
@@oldcuriosityshop265 I know that you like pictures, I am not very good at the whole copy and share process. I have an example of one in my pintrest glassware. I will try to figure out how to send it to you.
Feed the cat, even though he's chunky. He will warm up to you. One of our cats was dropped off at our place, most loving "feral" cat ever. But still likes to be outside. But she's smart and stays on our property now. Hername is Stevie, she's a Gypsy.
That rooster was a good boy; he didn't make any noise after you told him not to. Some beautiful pieces but really liked the pixie dude with the nonsensical brass instrument.
Next time I see a milk glass punch bowl at goodwill im picking it up because I just noticed what a pretty little bird bath it would be in my porch garden.
Hi Scott, the crystal caddy my granny had was similar to the one you showed, but not as fancy.... hers held salt cellars or salt dips and the center held toothpicks. I am 78 years old and she had it in the center of her table when I was a kid.
Hi Scott, I think that art deco clear glass was indeed from a woman's dressing table. It was for shots of whiskey before she had to go out to a boring country club event !
Milk glass was all the rage when I got married in 1967. I got a bunch and still have some! Great haul, love that you’re branching out although I love the older stuff better!
Awesome finds & channel! I mystery glass I believe is a Pressed Glass Cruet/ Condiment Caddy. Probably missing the silver hardwares that handle or something. 🙃
Milk glass is the vampire of glasses, you invite it into your home and then it will take over. You should have followed your instinct regarding milk glass *shudder* ! Before you know it, Scott will be the "go to guy" for milk glass! :-0 The rooster reminds me of every grandma's kitchen in the 60's and they were considered old at the time. The frame, vanity box, coasters, soups appeared to be in excellent condition!
Nice picture frame 4:54, Scott! My parents were married in 1945, with my father in his Naval uniform and my mother in a long white satin gown with train, and that would look so lovely in there!
You may get some money for the picture frame. Laguna Beach is just up the coast from me. A hot spot for high end galleries and artists. In the 80s the elite spent their money in that town. The restaurants and boutiques were fabulous. Look into that frame! ❤️🐩
I remember my parents using the windup alarm clock. No dependency on electricity when you live in the country. The horn playing pixie vase is interesting. My dad was an amateur trumpet player. His trumpet was silver and my nephew now has it.
Could the pressed glass piece possibly be a Cruet holder? I have seen sets that hold oil, vinegar, salad dressing, etc, in caddies like that with a fancy silver medal handle. In fact, I passed on one that I found @ a Goodwill long ago. Looking back now, that was a mistake. 🥴
So glad I found your channel- I never know there were so many old companies making depression glass! I even found out some chips on the rims of glasses or bowls could be filed and polished out! I saved one of my favorite milk glass mixing bowl from the trash by looking up how to do it and now the bowl is no longer too dangerous to use. I would never use it on the table because of the divot but it’s now safe to use to mix small batters - thnx for letting me know it was possible! And no more dishwasher for it either. Love watching you pick up all those unbelievable items from the past- we love using items from that era too!
And this is absolutely why I love watching The Old Curiosity Shop! Not is it so entertaining but I can not tell you just how much I've learned watching! Such a marvelous haul Scott! I absolutely love the McKee Punch set!!! That's such a treasure finding a full set! Those geometric patterns are so hard to learn and I truly admire your knowledge!!! 🙏
Scott, that clear glass piece without the handle might have been for salt and pepper and oil and vinegar cruets. I just don’t know what the center space would hold. Have you found out it’s true purpose?
That Big Ben alarm clock from my childhood still haunts me. Just kidding, but I had that exact same one and spent many a dreaded school morning turning that thing off.
Curiosity at its best. Want to know what the "vanity" piece is. When you showed the possible handle location makes me think dining table not vanity. But have no idea what it held. HUMM!
Hello, sir, we always enjoy your content down here in Virginia. My wife and I are born and raised south Jersey. We've both been to Mullica Hill numerous times and have relatives that live in nearby Harrisonville. Keep on keepin' on!
Believe it or not, I had the white punchbowl set years ago. It wasn't an expensive thing a long time ago to have milk glass cups and things so as a young person starting out I felt quite fancy at an affordable price. I donated it years later when I was trying to get storage room in my apartment. It did look lovely at Christmas though with all the red poinsettas and decorations around it. I think you got some nice things in your haul, but believe it or not, I think the picture frame made in the 90's to look deco era is my favorite. My home isn't deco, but I wish it were because I would put that proudly on display. Things don't always have to be old to look good even though to preserve authenticity it's nice when it is.
I agree glass cruet with a wire handle center for toothpick I've seen one but didn't have caster bottles. The pixie is lipper man part of 5 pc band group.
Oh my goodness I have that very same milk glass punch bowl!! I paid $5 for the bowl. I am a milk glass collector. I have 2 punch bowl sets. Westmoreland and Fireking. Yes it is McKee wahoo
This is the 2nd older video that popped up. RUclips is holding out on me. The notification bell is on. Anyway, I have enjoyed this thrift haul. I like the mystery piece.
Such a great diverse haul ! Love the punch bowl… great for a spring or summer party… actually any season…the punch bowl could be used for so many other uses. I have a milk glass set from my great grandmother. I treasure it. Thanks for a great video.
Lovely items Scott. Well almost…I would’ve left that wooden scary head thing on the shelf 😂 (you asked 😂). My favorite was the rooster ☺️. Enjoy the rest of your evening. 😉
I love my punch bowl. Its a clear one, I use it on holidays. I have the original box too. Its so fun. I have the rooster. I love the Japan pitcher, I totally would have bought it too.
So why could it not have been made by Mckee? I have seen the same example made by Mckee (with no embossed Mckee back stamp) but rather marked with a foil label from the Mckee company.
Scott! I love your front porch hauls. Amazing finds, once again! I wait to see what type of mug or cup and saucer you use each day to have your coffee or tea and lonely gingersnap. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Also, I really enjoyed last evening's auction and the "after party." Lots of fun!
The punch bowl makes me want to see if the 1960s milk white punch bowl set from my sister's wedding is still in the utility room. Makes me want some 7-Up and rainbow sherbet punch! The divided chintz dish and rooster 🐓 would look cute together, now to find a matching hen.
Bowl w lid Reminded me a bit of Harker, altho I don't think it is....horn w elf is a baritone horn...my dad was a music major and a professional trumpet player but he had other horns as well...he practiced scales all the time! Omg I want the chintz piece
I find that fragrance or scent bottles in dresser sets come with a curious history. Perfumes were expensive (still are), but watering them down with alcohol lead to colognes, affordable scents for the masses. My grandparents though, might have said, splash on some of that ‘toilet water’ (Eau de Toilette), you smell like the cow barn. Bath night is few days off and I can’t have you at the dinner table smelling like that. What would company think? That you were raised in a barn. No Grandma, I sleep with the chickens in the coop. Just a country boy at heart.
As I understand farm and Ranch Decor, it is typical to add the Roosters, nesting Hens, and Turkey, in glassware or hand carved pieces, onto the Family table or kitchen Sink in September to the end of November, to honor the Autumn harvest. Thnx.
I liked everything you purchased. Was wonderful to have a thrift all on the front porch. I had so much fun watching the live sale last night even though I didn’t purchase anything😊
Back in the 60's, my history teacher told us that when the Chinese made something they stamped USA on it, but there was a town in China called USA. Our American goods were supposedly differentiated by U.S.A. Now I don't know if that is still true.---It's taking me time to adjust to the new thrift haul locations, so ingrained am I to the penthouse!---I don't own any milkglass, but I truly loved looking at those two you bought. Maybe some member of a club would be interested in the punchbowl for group functions.---I'd love to be able to shed some light on the whatzit, but I am as confused as you!
Japan after WW2 use Usa ( not China) saying it was a city…..trying to side step Occupied Japan. Mom had a piece, wonder what happened to it. Times have changed, try very hard not to buy “Made in China” , Japan okay
a condiment type set maybe? ive seen a few of those lately funny you can go your whole life never seeing something and all of a sudden you start seeing them everywhere lol

There is an example of one for sale on etsy at the shop called Willow Creek Interiors
I think the center part of the glass piece should have a candle holder in it.
Alice is correct!!!!!!!!!

I really dig the front porch thrift haul. You have some nice stuff, and your cozy porch is the perfect setting to share it. ❤
I've learned so much watching your videos and enjoy your humor. Thanks
Yay!!! The dancing coffee man😁

Oooh, good idea 💡
Hi Scott, the crystal caddy my granny had was similar to the one you showed, but not as fancy.... hers held salt cellars or salt dips and the center held toothpicks. I am 78 years old and she had it in the center of her table when I was a kid.
I love the mashed potato bowl with vented lid.
Ok…love the punch bowl. Ok right. Come on!!! Too lovely. 🥰😋😛
The pixie is playing the euphonium. And he’s too cute!
Oooo, I’d buy it for my vanity! I think that my 5 favorite nail polishes would fit in the holes perfectly!
I could see lipstick tubes in it.
😂😂😂love the dramatic music with the Victor history.
oh my god that chintz piece is great. Chintz is all the rage here at the momentx
The punch bowl was amazing.Versatile..
Hi Scott, I think that art deco clear glass was indeed from a woman's dressing table. It was for shots of whiskey before she had to go out to a boring country club event !
I was thinking shot glasses as well
Geeking over the Trumpet Pixie Vase
Yes, I believe a small cruet set is correct. The milk glass punch bowl set was nice because it's not grapes. Great haul Scott!😅🩷

The punch bowl is really pretty. 🤗
Aloha 🌺 Scott! I do have cream soup with my Mikasa dishes. Love them. Aloha 🌺
"sips.....and where is the rest of my ginger snap?" 🤣-had me rolling
That chinz divided plate looks beautiful right there in your setting with your green chair, wicker lamp, etc.
I think the Japanese pitcher is cute!
Yes that would be very sweet in cottage decor.
The milk glass punch bowl is amazing.
homemade fruit salad would be spectacular in that milk glass punch bowl.
Awesome finds & channel! I mystery glass I believe is a Pressed Glass Cruet/ Condiment Caddy. Probably missing the silver hardwares that handle or something. 🙃
The little milk picture so cute I just loved it.
Well, I'm certainly learning from you Scott! When you showed the art deco picture frame my first thought was fake art deco revival repo! 😇
Marvelous Hauls😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍. The Pretty Pink dresser set is my favorite. GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT CONTENT. THUMBS-UP ALWAYS!!!!!!

I like the horn. The pixie is adorable.
I thrifted that beautiful punch bowl as well! Isn't it just fantastic? I put a floral display inside for a spectacular centerpiece.
Nice picture frame 4:54, Scott! My parents were married in 1945, with my father in his Naval uniform and my mother in a long white satin gown with train, and that would look so lovely in there!
Punch cups look like the broken arch design. Love it.
I like the pixie. Who needs a season for a pixie. 😀

love the pink soup bowls
My stepfather had a big ben clock to wake him and all the neighborhood in the mid 1960s

would use that mystery item as a "votive" holder. and one larger votive in the middle spot.
XOXO
I think that milk glass punch set was made by L. E. Smith. They bought a lot of molds when McKee Glass Co. went out of business in 1952.
