From what I've read so far, applicable license(s) have to be sought after an LLC has formed in order to "operate in the state of MD". Please clarify for me, and also, how one can determine the types of license required for their new business. Hopefully you read your old video's comments :) Take care

Hello good evening Mr. Toole... I am one of your fan and I also subscribe to your you tube channel I wanted to ask you a question about registering a new business license in md .. I wanted to ask if I wanted to do buy and sell only online do I have to do LLC or sole proprietorship.. and on the last part of your video that I have to wait for approval of md before getting the EIN what about tax I'd as well.. I hope you will answer me on this inquiries thank you sir and more power to your channel
Hi. You can register as either. The reason people select llc over sole proprietorship is because of the extra protections it offers from a tax perspective. Also, it give you more protection if someone wants to sue your company and go after your personal assets at the same time. The EIN is the tax ID. I would wait. If you get the EIN before you get the approval, and you end up getting your business license application denied by Maryland, you would have to setup the EIN again for the new business name you used. Does this make sense? When ini doubt, your local Small Business Development Center will assist for free.

I don’t have one for renewals yet, but I will add that to the list to create. The first time I renewed in Maryland and saw that annual report and personal doc section, I was like, “what the heck is this” LOL. The best ways to complete that (until I have a video up) is to reach out to your local SBDC (small business development center) and ask them for assistance. It’s free.
Which questions are you having the most trouble with? Also, if you want, you can contact a Small Business Development Center near you and they will assign a business consultant to you for free.
Hi Arthur I’m trying to open a beauty shop with my husband an Llc is fine ? Also with the corona epidemic going on should I wait to file and also should I save more liquid capital aka when I’m closer to looking for properties then apply for a license
An LLC is fine. The major reasons people go for the corporation is for the tax reasons. You pay taxes on your revenue once for a llc, but you pay taxes twice in a corporation (once for the revenue the company earned and again for the salary you pay yourself. It doesn't matter what day during the year you filed for your business license really as long as you do it in thee same calendar year you start your business. However, if you want to have a business checking account, it would be best to go ahead and get your business license now. If funds are tight though, again, you can wait all the way to December 31st to file and it will still count as having a business registered in 2020.

Does anyone happen to know what I should select for the registration type? Sales & Use tax unemployment insurance etc?
Hey, that depends on your business type. I'd recommend reaching out to the Small Business Development Center. They will assign you a consultant for free who'd be able to help you.
Been searching the entire RUclips and came across your video. Thank you for this, it was very helpful. Do you happen to know the next steps for someone looking to sell their baked goods?
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad I could assist.
Arthur can you do a break down on the operating agreement?
I sure can. I’ll start working on that next week. Do you have an in particular about operating agreements?
Does everyone have to pay the $300 annually to keep the business in good standing?
There is an annual fee but I’d check the website every January for the current rates.
Thank you!
Omg this was sooooooo helpful ..Thank you so much !
Any time!
This video is very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Any time. If you have any questions, let me know.
thank you so much sir
Any time
Thank you for this information! Does this also provide the sales permit or will i also need to apply for that?
The sales permit is additional. I’m working on a video that shows how to obtain that
@@ArthurToole is a sales permit the same as a resellers certificate/permit? If I just want to sell on eBay, do I need anything other than the articles of organization and a EIN?
I’m in Maryland and I’m trying to sell items from a vender. But what box do I check for type of business?
Selling from a vendor shouldn’t have an impact on the type of business you choose (LLC, C-Corp, S-Corp, etc.) choose the business type based on taxes preferences, partnership type, and type of protection you’d need
I didn't know the business license and the LLC formation was the same thing
Thanks so much. The site was really confusing to me. I'm thinking about starting a business with my mom. Still planning, but taking my time to research.
holy bell I definitely understand that! Glad I could help. What kind of business are you planning? There are a lot of free business planning services in Maryland that can help.
Thank you for this video however, I'm trying to open a credit repair company and there was a whole other form that was needed and it costs $950.
True.. You also need to obtain a surety bond I believe. Here's the only link I know about that deals with the extra streps you have to take. www.dllr.state.md.us/finance/industry/licfees.shtml#creditserv. Congrats on launching your credit repair business. When done right, it can be very lucrative. In today's environment, a lot of people will need your help. Also, consider business credit services. If you have questions, I will try to help. I used to provide that service in another state back in 2008.
Appreciate video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you tried - Peyaniel Breathtaking Primacy (do a search on google)? It is a great exclusive guide for starting your own successful handyman business minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate at last got astronomical success with it.
Thank you for this great and helpful information
Carlos Flores any time! If you have any questions, let me know!
That was perfect! Thank you so much.
Anytime!
@@ArthurToole do you know how long it's suppose to take to get an approval on your application?
Juliette Nwagbara it normals takes 5-10 business days
Hi Arthur I’m trying to have a company does this work on home improvements
Awesome! Best of luck to you
How can i get a traders license in Maryland. Any tips on that...was wondering if i could get it through the same Website you talked about?.
It will be through the same agency. I'd call them and ask. Their website is egov.maryland.gov/businessexpress
Great video thanks I can’t finish my application for this I am following all the rules and they keep posting different names?
That’s odd. Are they giving you an error message or anything? Google SBDC for your county. They are a free resource for entrepreneurs. They can assist you with this. No need to pay someone for it.
Hi Arthur! Great video thank you so much. Once you have registered for an LLC, where do you get your sellers permit?
This is the site to apply for your seller’s permit: businessexpress.maryland.gov/start/licenses-and-permits
Do you have a video on how to renew the business license? because when i went to pay it wants me to file annual report and personal property. if i am operating without a location why is this compulsory?
I don’t have one for renewals yet, but I will add that to the list to create. The first time I renewed in Maryland and saw that annual report and personal doc section, I was like, “what the heck is this” LOL. The best ways to complete that (until I have a video up) is to reach out to your local SBDC (small business development center) and ask them for assistance. It’s free.
@@ArthurToole thank you sir. Much appreciated. I'll check the local sbdc
How do I do it for two owners??
The combined registration dealing with taxes is a bit more complex. They asking questions that doesnt apply to me but can't move on without answering
Which questions are you having the most trouble with? Also, if you want, you can contact a Small Business Development Center near you and they will assign a business consultant to you for free.
Do I need to register a Commercial cleaning company?
All businesses need to be registered with the state SOS
You, Sir - are AWESOME!!
You are so kind! Thank you!
Great video! Thank you. My question is, what's the turnaround time for getting approved?
Usually 7 calendar days.
@@ArthurToole thank you sir
so just confirm in maryland a llc and business license are the same thing essentially? that’s what my research is leading me to lol ☹️
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video bro.i was just about to pay a lawyer $700 to set up my trucking business in Maryland,😂 you saved me bro.my question is l have a home in NYC and I have an apartment in Maryland.I would rather keep my nyc mailing address due to the fact that i will be moving from that address next year to another address in Maryland. Will that be a problem.
Thanks for the kind words! As long as you have an actual address in Maryland, you can create a business here. You can use whatever address you’d like as the registered agent. However, you will need you use your Maryland apartment as the physical address. We have local small business development centers in every county in Maryland. They will help you further for free! Just Google SBDC bear your Maryland zip code.
