Enter businessman Pete Kadens and former Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson, whose initiative, Hope Chicago, aims to redress inequities in a young person's access to higher education.

Oh WOW!! I'm just so immensely happy for all these kids!! We need more of this across the country! Education is so important. Knowledge is power. Many of these kids will be our future leaders, and I believe this experience will be so important in how they govern someday. Their lives are changed forever. Seems we only hear these kinds of stories on Sunday Morning. I wish the regular mainstream news would cover stories like this. It would bring hope to so many more people in a country that needs hope like never before.
This brought tears to my eyes! I have seen first hand how something like this can change your life! I went to nursing school on a scholarship. It totally changed my life and the life of my 2 kids. I hope each recipient appreciates it!

The second great challenge will be getting others to see that there is no such thing as a self-made man ir woman. We all get help from others (parents, teachers, neighbors, community members, strangers, etc.) along the way thst pushes us further in the right direction. Also, the myth of "earning" what you get is rampant. Luck is so much part of the equation, we don't choose everything good/bad that happens to us, sometimes we are simply in the right/wrong place at the righ/wrong time.
As a single, divorced parent with no child support ever, I was able to attend Universities in KY and OR while raising my 2 little girls. My BS degree changed our lives, offered opportunities and took us off Aide to Dependent Children (essential the welfare system in the late 1970s). I encourage anyone with a dream to go to college, access higher learning, and never give up. It is possible to accomplish your goals, and impact the life of your children and accomplish your potential. Go for it!!
I cried with them as if it was one of my children receiving that gift. Blessings to each one of those students and everyone involved with Hope Chicago. 🙏 ❤❤🎊🎉

This is going to change their family’s lives. I hope that they also are supported with mental healthcare etc. Oprah shared that after she opened her first school in Africa, that was one area that her and her team overlooked. College is rigorous and challenging, but with adequate support, they can all succeed.
Stories like this one are why I enjoy watching Sunday morning. It brings me hope.

Tears streaming down my face! It takes so little to achieve so much! This successful businessman and the Hope Foundation are breaking the chain of poverty and bleak futures. These kids getting a college education will, in turn, change many lives as well. This gift grows exponentially. WAAAAY better than charities that put on lavish parties and events, Pat themselves on the back, and throw a few dollars at the cause du jour. Hmmmm, I wonder how much money Archwell has given to college educations among the less privileged and disadvantaged?

This story serves as a reminder of the importance of a college education. I could not pass any math or science classes in high school, so I had my doubts about going to college. I started at a community college where I studied liberal arts. I took two logic classes and a human biology class to satisfy my math and science requirements. I went out to earn a bachelors degree with a literature focus. Now I work with adults with developmental disabilities. I help them improve their reading and writing skills. I have been working steady for 23 years now.

Besides the money it would be extremely necessary to counsel the kids on the majors they would pursue. The problem is that there are a large number of students who go into college who major in something they have an interest in but are simply unable to produce a productive career. Most often young people are idealistic and what to "change the world." They don't realize that idealism often doesn't put food on the table. The thing to do is to major in something that produces a career and minor in something of interest. As life changes so also do interests. Save the interests for later in life when there is experience backing the interests up.
It is good to have career testing done (e.g. Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers-Briggs Inventory, California Test of Mental Maturity, etc.) and responsible counseling of the results in order to help them focus on a direction. The best approach to college is to get the requirements done in the 1st 2 years. Then, look into the major and minor. It is also important that they would be given counseling as to what classes to take in their major and minor and some of the best electives to take for educational, economic and personal growth. The reason there are so many who have problems paying off their college loans is because of ideals over reality.

Hats off to Steve Hartman! This is a great start! But private investment can only go so far… we need national leadership behind public policy that will cancel existing student debt and return free access to education for all. Let’s call it a war on ignorance… We can always find enough money for a war…
Just think, if the big corporations and billionaires just paid their fair share of taxes (at arate the rest of us pay), the good that could be done in this country would be astounding!

Why not just give them the money? Not everyone wants or needs to go to college.
He should pay for trade schools not college. Four million job openings in the trades are going unfilled. We don't need more graduates with useless (fill-in-the-blank)-studies degrees. Well, then again maybe Starbucks does.
It's wonderful what he's doing , but if billionaires pay more tax ( most of them super rich ,because of us) than we don't need to applaud for them,college, healthcare wouldn't be luxury anymore to regular people.

It is absolutely factually true that you can come from anywhere and be successful….what kind of message are you trying to send people? To wait for rich white dudes to give them a chance cuz without it they don’t have one?
If you are a minority and want to attend college most likely you will receive many grants based on skin color that the majority of needy meaning poor people will not get. Also, even if they didn't get grants and free tutition the could still get college loans!! nothing is keeping them from going to college, racism is not a factor! Most people have to pay for college for years and years of paying back loans. Because a white millionaire has been taught to feel guilty because he is white and rich doesn't and wants to give his money to black people does not mean that what he is doing is fair to the majority of poor people.
Proves that if Multi-Millionaries and Billionaires were taxed, we all (to include parents) can go to college for free. Nice tax write-off for the Multi-Millionaire and friends.
I won't swear it is still this way but, when I cared you did not get a million dollars credit on your taxes you just didn't pay taxes on the donated amount, heugh difference!
