- Mike Mason, of Midlothian, Virginia, had served his country for decades, first as a captain in the Marines, and later as the No. 4 man at the FBI. After leaving the Bureau and working at a Fortune 500 company, Mason found retirement didn't sit well with him. So, he started a new chapter in his life, as a school bus driver. Correspondent Steve Hartman reports.

I love that. “ there are no unimportant jobs”. So true
These stories about real people are the reason I watch CBS Sunday Morning. Thank you
I am an elementary school Crossing Guard. I totally get it!! It is the most fulfilling, fun job I have ever had. 🥰
Yup, again crying because of Steve Hartman's amazing journalism about amazing people. 💓💓💓
I have always hoped that CBS would devote more air time to Mr. Hartman, such as during the Morning Show, where there is more time to devote to great stories than on the Evening News..
Embodiment of humility and grit. Thank you for your service
A truly inspiring story of dedication and a never-ending desire to serve. Hats off.
We need more Mike Mason's in this world ♥️
Perfect role model for children!
I watch Sunday mornings primarily for Steve Hartmans stories, always showing there is good in this world. God Bless them all
The "Father" of public education in America, Horace Mann said "Be ashamed to die before you have won some victory for humanity." If you think no one truly cares, think of the shining light that this gentleman truly is.
How cool is this? As always Steve’s stories are THE best ❤️
This segment has me in tears! As I am recently retired and contemplating my next venture, he is my Hero right now. He is right, look how valued our essential workers were when we needed them most! I hope people will continue to give them the respect they deserve. Bravo Sir, I commend you.
I saw Steve Hartman and immediately clicked. I knew I was going to see something that made me feel better about the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is AMAZING
My God, that man is a True Hero! This country is blessed by his contributions!
That community has THE #1, cream of the crop bus driver. What an honor 🎖 to be driven to school by Mr. Mike Mason, Champion, Warrior Hero. Bu Yah! Compassion, integrity, transparency and accountability for all!
That's just what real MARINES do..step up and carry on..OOH RAH
They need to turn this entire program over to Steve Hartman.
No way, my coffee would be filled with tears.
Totally agree. I muted a couple of the other stories that were on this morning.
Hmmm, I don’t know. I like my cheese in small doses.
This story gives me goosebumps. Thank you, Mr. Mason, sir, for your service to the public. Thanks to Steve for bringing it to us.
I also wax my school bus. This is a great story.
We need so many more people like him in our world!
Those kids are so lucky to have such a driver.
One of the great humans on earth. Thank you Mike.
This wonderful man has the right perspective.. "what can be more important than the attention we pay to our education system?". If the USA wants to remain a world leading nation, we better start concentrating on educating ALL our kids. If we continue to have an uneducated population it will be the Achilles' heel, the downfall of this country. 🇺🇸📘
Oh my goodness, this got me crying. That’s lovely, wished this clip was longer.
Mike Mason! You are the most awesome person for all you do! Thank you for your service - your most important job of your lifetime. Those kids are safely in your care!
thank you for your service, sir. a beautiful soul you are.
This would make an excellent film 🎞 tv 📺 movie -ex FBI agent turns school 🏫 bus 🚌 driver! What a wonderful story!😘🙏
Especially if Morgan Freeman played him in the movie :)
Lisa Mcdonald this is more “after-school special” material.
Indeed, there are no unimportant jobs. He is truly a Marine and a former FBI. All around good man and discipline
😓💦 As always, Steve Delivered! This was great. I was wondering where this story was headed to.
What a trooper!!
I LOVE THIS! My first school bus driving job was a special needs route and I loved my kids! They were very young, I had child seats on my bus! They were always happy, never a bad day!
WELL DONE YOU !!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR BIG HEART !!!!
My mom was a north Georgia country girl, who late in life became a school bus driver for special education kids. She loved the kids and they loved her.
What a wonderful man!!
True Servant Leader
Refreshingly unselfish and inspirational

This is an inspiring man. No job is unimportant. I wish there wre more people like him in this world.
Those guys named Mike!! Never met a guy named Mike that wasn't top shelf!!
Awesome story, and a dedicate man to do good. Thank you Sir.
Terrific, Mike! You are 100 percent correct ... I give it away, too, but prefer to remain anonymous. The Universe knows what i do and I know what I do -- and that's what counts ---✨
Great Guy! His service is inspiring
This guy is truly a dope person. Inspiration.

There's a lot of Great people in this world, If you can't find one...

Steve always has us crying!
Integrity! 💗
Wow…he’s the man! Love him!
This one was from a couple of weeks ago. Hope they show the follow-up to the episode from a week ago.
Love it....so inspiring!
I usually enjoy making cynical or snarky comments on YT, but not on this story.. This gentleman, former FBI and Marine getting in retired to drive a Special Needs School bus is literally awesome!
Jesus is your way to heaven Believe in him and you will have life after death. He shed his blood for your sins to be forgiven.
Great segment.
Awesome!
I love it!
I’m so inspired
Those kids are safer on that bus than anywhere else !
Service before self.🇺🇲
That's exactly right, there are no unimportant jobs. We all have a role to play on this great giant sphere we all call Earth, whether or not what you choose to do on Earth is up to you. I do hope that you will choose the latter like he did and do something that will make difference and do something that your passionate about. It just takes one random act of kindness peeps. Thankyou for reading this peeps and always remember to stay humble and kind. 😊😊❤❤🤍🤍💙💙
♥️♥️
SEMPER FI SIR
You can guess all the things I want to say, because you want to say them too. So… I’ll just say what seems inadequate “Thank you, Mr. Mason. Thank you, Mr. Hartman”.
Yeah
If only more of us could afford economically to serve as he is, the country would be much better off. You do what you can, though, right?
What a world we could have if people had the economic freedom to do the job they loved without having to worry about if the bills get paid at the end of the month. CRAZY
Semper Fi, Devil.
Good On Mike Mason. Lovely story. In Japan, many people who reach retirement, go on vocational courses and learn to do OTHER work - because if you stop doing something with your Life, you will die. So there are company executives and auto mechanics being re-trained, re-purposed and sent of to other countries to practice their new skills and bring Life to the under-privileged.
Why do I keep seeing the same stories over and over again - I caught this a few weeks back....
Who left these onions here 😭
👏👏 This is our future. My area has a 31% illiteracy rate & they are down drivers. Covid being the problem cause that twit Governor before school started put into effect mandate a mask loose educational funding. He’s slipping in judgement calls. Teachers beside drivers resigned. Over 11,000 students were in quarantine before the first month of school. Maybe next year this driver will switch to being a driver for high school. This group needs positive role models in their lives. If I was a principal I would be asking him now to come speak to my students.
Retirement gives people many chances to live their dreams, not sit on their butts.
Imagine you try to pull a Karen on this bus driver.
Just the news we all need unselfish caring that's American as you can get a dying group
Jesus is your way to heaven Believe in him and you will have life after death. He shed his blood for your sins to be forgiven.
About time he served his community and not lied to the public about honest people protesting their government on January 6th because it does not fit the fbi narrative.
leftist much?
