We play this a lot when we have a large group but always keep it to the basic car and one lap. This turns it into a lite one hour or so game. With only one lap people take waaaaay more risks and don't get upset if they consistently get bad rolls.
That’s cool. Glad to hear you enjoy it, I truly wish I did. What kind of rules are you talking about? Have you tried Downforce? I’ve heard I should try that one.
Bazar dos Magos It would be very difficult in a comment. We have rules for multiple tyre compounds that have different wear rates and provide bonuses. We use Custom drivers with different starting wear point allocations. We run 22 race seasons using a modified version of the F1 points system. It’s a several page pdf file.
@@thediceodyssey4690 Downforce seems like it might be more your speed (pun not intended), but if you get frustrated by aggressive play towards you might want to steer away (I swear I'm not trying with the puns). It's very easy to get blocked in Downforce to the point where it's not possible to finish the race. It doesn't have the runaway leader problem that Formula D does and is much faster though.
I love this game and have all the old tracks, except 2 also I have replaced the plastic cars with metal ones that range from muscle cars Aston Martin , over a hundred in total and over 40 tracks so it doesn’t get boring in my house
I personally love this game. I have all descartes extensions (except the us track extensions). I did seasons with 26 cars on track like f1 use to have. It was very long but each race was an action packed race during the 3laps. Cars blowing up misrolls and so on. What's interesting in this game is extensions.
Thanks for sharing that perspective. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it so much, sounds like you enjoyed all the extra tracks quite well. I just wish I enjoyed the game more. Thanks for commenting on it.
@@thediceodyssey4690 I loved 1980's-1990's f1. That game was perfect for it. Especially with the extensions. I have a total of 22 tracks. It's sad that the Descartes extensions are not printed anymore.
@@stefanorosati9467 do not worry. I kept the same rules as 10 cars. Only with a limited numbers of rotating debries I and used Excel to keep track of positions, car live points, gear and so on
Just the one but I think it wasn’t so much the only track, it was several things including how many times with our group it bombed, to the point that people wanted to stop playing altogether. Believe me, I wish that wasn’t the case. It seems like such a good presentation. Thinking of trying downforce. See if that is a racing game I can enjoy.
I like the game, but I find that the end of the race is always anticlimactic. As the guy in first place goes first so coming off that last corner its usually won on the 2nd or 3td to round.
I have come from dead last 2-3 corners after the leaders and then rolled like a god and was the 1st over the finishline lap 1 and manage to keep the lead and take 1st. thats the beauty of the game, even if you are waaaay behind its possible to catch up
Only things I agree on is that its more fun with more players and you need a good moderator if not all players know the game well, otherwise its a blast. the strategy to block others when you roll bad to make it harder for them. Playing just basic rules is super booring since you can take too many risk without really hurting your car and that is part of the fun, knowing you are in the lead with a shitty car and 1 more bad roll and you will be overtaken.
Loooove this game - the best part of it is the great number of tracks available, so it *never* gets boring - there are leagues going on all around the country (and actually, around the world), which shows it's not *that* boring ;-) I'd recommend 2-lap minimum races, so you can have a "pit stop strategy"... also, using the advanced or even custom rules, adds a strong strategy element to the gameplay - it's far more than just about rolling a dice and pushing a car on a track! Highly recommending, especially if you're a strategy game fan or a motor racing fan, or both!
J.J. Enser I’m glad there are people that enjoy this game, its got some great design ideas that I thought were cool. Glad you enjoy it, I’m not saying it’s a horrifically bad game or anything, just that I don’t personally like it anymore.
I'm a hard core racing game junkie. I've got over 30 different racing games. And I agree with you, it is a difficult game to play well. It is also (like most racing games) takes way too long to play. It is not for casual gaming. Rallyman Dirt is due out by the end of the year. That should be a game you and other non hard core racing games should really enjoy. Watch a few WRC (world Championship Rally) videos to get an idea of what it is like.
Sorry you didn't have a fun time. This is a lot more fun with the advanced rules. It is long and there is a run away leader problem, but I find trying to plan the turns fun and the advanced rules wear system exciting with a crowded track. Like many older games, it takes some work to make them work for a modern audience and it's easy to pick a setup that is long and boring. Rallyman GT might be more for you. Pretty short, has the risk, planning, and blocking. Only drawback is the speed system makes little sense in the real world since it's better to go up and down to go further.
I played it 20years ago with the 1st edition and now again with this one - always loved it! But I get your point it isn‘t a casual game - but I grew up with table tops, RPGs, and so on - for me thats the reason why I like it ver much - the rules and strategy
Your right buddy, that game is boring. Just goes to show nice artwork is nice but that's about it. If the actual game is lacking the great art is just great art in a bad game. 👎
It’s hard to fathom how much you and your group were doing wrong to not enjoy this game. You should definitely avoid all racing games moving forward! Thx for video

Justin Phillips yeah see that’s a great thing about this type of game, you can modify things a lot.
I absolutely love this game. I am a huge racing fan though and admittedly play with a significantly modified rule set for season/league play.
That’s cool. Glad to hear you enjoy it, I truly wish I did. What kind of rules are you talking about?

@Ogremann222 May you explain the modified/additional rules you play with?
