I do realize you Cannot skip gears going up. I made a mistake in my overview. I actually played it both ways, and honestly even though thematically in real life you don't go faster if you up shift and skip gears. However it sure is a lot more fun and more of a press your luck element if you play that way. :) Try it for fun!
Nothing wrong with house rules, but I think this one removes a lot of strategy from the game. One major reason for taking a curve too fast is to have a higher base gear to accelerate from in the straight away.
I have only played the basic version, but I really like this game. I own Speed Circuit, and this gives a similar feel. My only beef is that there is a lot of luck involved.
Have you played Formula D again since this comment? I absolutely love Formula D and the group I play with isn't even that huge into racing. I've been amazed how many times the race equalized itself by the rule of averages. While it feels like luck, if I really stop and think about, I can usually point to one or two errors I made that cost me the position I felt I should get.
No you can basically make two switches while moving, but u can’t zigzag, so if your on the left lane you can cut across to the right or into the middle. You can zigzag if your passing a car that’s already in your lane. So if a car is a couple spaces ahead in your lane u can move to an adjacent lane then cut back after you pass the car.
I love this game but mainly play the easier mode. My friends in my game group like it that way. I need to get more maps. Cool Stuff sells them way cheaper than other stores. Now I want to play it again, darn you. Thanks buddy, good review.
Sure. The rules don't actually say much about this. My only limitation would be to not play special characters with formula one characters. So to keep them on their own leagues. But I think you can also mix them if you want.
I am a Grade 5 teacher and I run a board game club at my school. Formula D is one of the most popular games! Of course they are all about "Big Blue" the 30 sided dice!
i prefer Rush n' Crush for racing thrills over formula d Same amount of push your luck speed and lots more action boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/46782/rush-n-crush
Whoa whoa whoa. Slow your roll Game Boy Geek. You can not skip gears when up shifting. Never. Ever.
Yea, where did he get that? Certainly not on a race track...!
It's the other way around, what he was smoking ?
Pretty sure you can't skip gears on the way up, only on the way down to slow more quickly.
You are correct. You cannot skip gears up. Maybe he's never driven a manual transmission. Not really a way to go fast.
This is probably one of the only roll and move games that I would play :)
5:36 - That yellow car has some odd tactics.
Mater- "I'm the world's best backwards driver!!!"
I always love his short and thematic video clips in the intro part.

At 0:3:38 you have an error. You are not allowed to skip gears when accelerating, only when down-shifting. See Basics, The Gears on page 3.

I like the way you explain those rules. Thanks for keep posting reviews for years!
I'm lost on the switch lanes part. Are u only allowed to switch lanes when passing?

“You are not allowed to skip gears when accelerating (e.g. changing straight from 1st to 3rd gear).” Need to update the video.

Have you played formula 90? It would be nice see a comparison review.
Another great review, love this game and own most of the expansions.
Can you play the special characters on the race tracks, or are they restricted only to the street races?
Sure. The rules don't actually say much about this. My only limitation would be to not play special characters with formula one characters. So to keep them on their own leagues. But I think you can also mix them if you want.
Nice review. Wonder how well the game would play with younger kids..

Yeah I can tell by your final thoughts that you're probably gonna stick to 'Jamaica' :)
Hmmm... he really needs to review the rules again. A number of errors in this!
I was wondering about that. He's definitely not playing the way I was taught.
can you play this game alone
I always play games alone
I play risk and monopoly alone
And this game is one of the best
i prefer Rush n' Crush for racing thrills over formula d
Same amount of push your luck speed and lots more action

This wasn't a review.
I think Formula Dè is better. You may say it's the same game but it's not.
