The Go Go's were the first all female band who played their own instruments to have a top ten song on the charts. All the members released solo work with Belinda being the most successful and Jane being the second. Both had chart topping songs. They are inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame. Belinda was very well known in the late 80's and early 90's with several chart topping albums and recently released a new album which put her back at the top of the charts. she has been selling out all her recent performances. she is well known internationally and extremely popular in the UK
The Go-Gos were huge for GenX kids in the 80s. They had many hits. Then the lead singer, Belinda Carlisle went on to have a very successful solo career.
GoGos were so much fun. They came up out of the LA punk movement but blossomed into a power pop band. Belinda had a very unique voice. They have tons of great hits. Check out "Head Over Heels" and "We Got the Beat" next! If you liked this, you'll love those.
Believe it or not, they started out in the punk scene in L.A. and were formed as a punk band. And the lead singer in this video, Belinda Carlisle, was in a very famous punk band called the Germs, under the name Dottie Danger! (Pat Smear, one of the guitarists in The Foo Fighters, was a co-fouder and lead guitarist of the Germs)
Lead singer Belinda Carlisle went solo in the middle 80s and had some HUGE Top 40 hits, most notably "Mad About You", "Heaven Is A Place On Earth", and "Circles In The Sand."
The Go Go's and their lead singer, Belinda Carlisle, were huge in the 80s. They had a string of hits and were always on the radio. You couldn't walk into a club or bar and not hear their songs and videos playing. Great times.
The Go-Go’s were hugely popular and were the first all female band to hit #1 on the Billboard Album chart with their debut “We Got The Beat”. There are a lot of great songs from this band, but, for me their best is off the debut album, a song about their hometown and mine, Los Angeles, called “This Town”.
LEGENDS! I'm thankful I was around when they hit the scene. They had another studio CD called "God Bless the Go-Go's" around 2000, and released a single "Club Zero" in 2020. Pretty amazing when these artists have such long careers that span so many decades.
Some of the members are old friends of mine….believe it or not, they were a punk band that morphed into more of a pop band. They were fantastic in the early days, beauty and the beat is an awesome album.
1959 Buick Invicta convertible. My favorite uncle had one o' those. Nice car! I wasn't a fan of the Go-Gos in their time in the eighties, but do enjoy their music some now when I listen back, as sort of a nostalgic thing.
If you want to see some the Go-Go's play Live , there are videos of a well shot Live show they did in their Re-union years from Central Park's Summer Stage . It's probably mentioned in the many comments that The Go-Go's were the 1st all girl band to write & play their own instruments and the were Finally Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021
I was about 10 or 11 when this song debuted. And I fell hard for their music right away. "Vacation" is my favorite of their (the video is a trip too) but all their albums full listen are bangers. All the members are doing music on their own terms right now touring separately. But this song means a lot to me now. I'm writing a novel about Queer teenager's in the 80's and upon asking if I could use the lyrics in a scene in the book, Jane gave me permission to do so. And The Go-Go's were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Having sold millions of album and gaining a multitude of awards over their career they are one the most successful American "Girl Groups" ever.
MTV was the media that boosted bands and artists at the time along with radio. We could all see them perform perhaps for the first time. Other amazing pop/rock songs to check out: "We Got the Beat" (1980) "Vacation" (1982) End title song in "Spiderman-Away From Home", a cool in movie use. "Head Over Heals" (1984)
Speaking of The Specials and Fun Boy Three--check them both out! Both excellent and tons of fun. Fun Boy Three recorded a slow, moody version of "Our Lips Are Sealed" that's just as good as this one, in a different way. The Specials were a ska band remembered primarily for "Ghost Town" and "A Message To You Rudy"
The Go Go's were originally a Punk band, but the record company made them a more mainstream pop sound. This was a big MTV hit in the early 80's. Also "We Got The Beat" and "Holiday" are pretty good. You were right the second time, Jane Weidlen, (Weed-len).
One of my favorite bands and album of all time. Beauty And The Beat masterfully produced by Richard Gottehrer who produced hits for 60's groups such as the Angels, The McCoys, The Strangeloves, etc. He does a great blending the 60s girl sound and Power Pop Rock.
Another of the dozens of groups and artists getting it done in the early 80s, the most varied era with the deepest bench of acts in the studio and on the road!
They were so cute and happy. You'll be shocked by the band their singer was almost in before, the Germs! They were the most bleak, reckless band in LA. But real decent punk rock, very influential. Their guitarist was Pat Smear later of Nirvana and Foo Fighters. They have iconic scenes in the great documentary The Decline Of Western Civilization. Go-Go's were Huge!
Great catchy tune to get my blood pumping, always my goal for the day! It makes me wish for the glory days of MTV, sigh. Hope my friends here have a fantastic 4th. Happy birthday Shawn, may all your wishes come true. Blessings all.
I was going to attend their concert in Austin in 1982. Gina the drummer took ill and they had to reschedule. When they came back around I had other commitments and never got to see them Live.
When you get a chance, you should see their documentary. Don't be confused by their videos. They lived the rock and roll lifestyle with the partying and drugs. I have a lot more respect for them after watching it and what it was like for them and where they are now.
This classic 80s song is pop rock but they have different songs that are more new wave and punk. There are also the only all female rock band to top the Billboard Charts.
React to their songs We Got The Beat, Vacation, Head Over Heels and Turn To You please. And react to the lead singer Belinda Carlisle's solo career singles Mad About You, Heaven Is A Place On Earth, I Get Weak, Circle In The Sand and Leave A Light On For Me please. And react to Jane Wiedlin's Rush Hour please.
Oddly enough, the song Our Lips Are Sealed, was a product of a British all male group, Fun Boy Three. A marginal success for FBT, but a year later, became a huge global hit for the Go Gos. Off their debut album, Beauty and the Beat, their sound was considered post punk, New Wave. Their second album took on a more polished pop sound, giving them huge crossover appeal.

The Go Go’s are iconic!! 80’s pop at its finest! And they were bad ass ladies!!

First all female band to have a #1 album.
They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame just a couple years ago.
One of the best pop songs of all time ❤❤❤❤
They also knew how to party. Total respect for a legendary band

I remember the summer this game out. Great memories of my 20’s. 😁💖
HUGE a Girl Band from the 80's also inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall a fame a year a or two ago. Many Many Hits!! Yes BadAss Band!!
I loved bopping around the dance floor to this in the early 80's....fun stuff.
Fantastic song, reminds me of high school. Their biggest hit from the same album, was We Got The Beat. Very new wave
Go-Gos "Vacation" is a great summer song!!!
You’re playing my music! ❤

Man I love the Go Go's! I still play this song a lot during the Summer. Another great Bop from my Generation. I love seeing new folks come on board. 🙌
LA New Wave at its finest.
Love this band one of my all time favorites, such beauitiful women with such great talent, pretty much all their songs are great pop bangers. 💓
The GoGos were really big in the 80’s!!
Yes we want more Go-Go-s!
MTV was the media that boosted bands and artists at the time along with radio. We could all see them perform perhaps for the first time.

Loved the Go-Go's...Especially this song.

Love the Go-Go’s!!
I have the very nice picture disk vinyl single of this song.
Happy B-Day and 4th of July Shawn, great song to start the day with.
The Bass is slappin'...so fun..

What can you say-when the girls want to have some fun, the entire crew girl power their way to a good time.
Such a good song. Nice one Shawn ☘️🇺🇲

LOVE LOVE LOVE THE GO-GOs!!!!!
Such fun!!
Bringing me back to high school and the days of big hair. 😱
The very first all female band to have a #1 album. I like several songs but not a huge fan but I have mad respect for what they were able to achieve.
Bought it on 45 when it came out and then the album shortly thereafter, Go Go’s were popular with everyone, not just girls 👫
This all girl group were fantastic when they were still together. Fabulous vocals, great music ...🎤🎸🎶
Great catchy tune to get my blood pumping, always my goal for the day! It makes me wish for the glory days of MTV, sigh. Hope my friends here have a fantastic 4th. Happy birthday Shawn, may all your wishes come true. Blessings all.

Iconic ‘80s group!
The 1st all female band to write and sing a number 1 hit
New Wave baby! When it was hot!
They were very Pop. They sounded catchy.
My Girl Kathy Valentine on Bass was my favorite, Also as a teen had a crush on her
This classic 80s song is pop rock but they have different songs that are more new wave and punk. There are also the only all female rock band to top the Billboard Charts.
"We got the beat" was their first big hit. Was probably a bigger hit than this one, as I recall at the time! :)
This is one of my favorite songs. Google the lyrics, and the message is clear.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famers actually. You should check out the Go-Go's documentary and you may better understand the respect for this group.
Great memories
This song is a collaboration with Fun Boy Three, who had their own version of it!
Huge 80’s Band! Probably still touring 😅
💜Fun song!
React to their songs We Got The Beat, Vacation, Head Over Heels and Turn To You please.

Rock n Roll HOF
The lyrics are from a break-up letter from the boyfriend of the guitarist.
🤩🤩🤩
I love The Whole World Lost Its Head....
Not Pop Rock, but "80's Pop Rock" 😅
And We Got the Beat was their big hit after this, but they had a few more catchy ones too that aren't bad.
The song explains why it’s so hard to kiss a Go-go girl.
Oddly enough, the song Our Lips Are Sealed, was a product of a British all male group, Fun Boy Three. A marginal success for FBT, but a year later, became a huge global hit for the Go Gos. Jane Wiedlin and Terry Hall co-wrote it.
👏👏👏💃🕺🏾💃🕺🏾😎🌹♥️👍
Fun boy three
80's legends but notorious sex, drugs and rock and roll attitudes.
Lost a LOT of valuable DNA back in the day, thanks to Belinda Carlisle.
AND Samantha Fox too 🤓
Listen to the Go Go’s……..Vacation
Now that you've done this, do the Fun Boy Three version.
