This week my dishwasher stopped draining, I checked and you had not shown me how to fix it yet, but with the confidence that I had gained from watching you I figured it out!
I love hearing that!! I very much support that mindset! Most things are able to be fixed without calling anyone out as long as one has the desire to try.
I would take a picture of every detail. When I replaced the motor on my dryer I took pics of everything from every angle. Good thing, too. I dropped the motor off at the repair shop so they could check it out and they ordered a new one. The part didn't come in for 3 months. That was way cheaper than the "Call-Out Cost" or the In Home Repair Service. It never hurts to use a little precaution than to apply a pound of cure. Thx for doing this and sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
That's a great suggestion!! Taking pictures of how everything is before taking it apart really helps, especially if it's something you've never done before. The part taking 3 months to arrive is rather long, wow. Glad to hear you eventually got it at least. Thank you for sharing your experience!
@@WordofAdviceTV - I live north of 62 and historically, everything takes a very long time to arrive here, even the sun takes it's jolly good time, in the winter. 😆
LoL. I like your father in law. I "patched" my dryer heating element about 10 years ago (it was OLD even then). Still waiting for it to burn out again!! I'll just buy a new dryer, whenever that happens. 😉
Yeah, he's a good man! 😄 And wow! The patch lasted over 10 years already?? That's good to know! So much for it creating a hot spot and burning out fast. (That's what I was taught) I have changed my opinion regarding this thanks to your experience. 😇 Thank you for sharing!
@@WordofAdviceTV I feel I should say that the element on my dryer was a of a much heavier gauge than the newer ones are now. And I used a nut and bolt to secure the two ends of the element together. Would not have done this on a customers dryer. But on my own? Sure... Why not!! LoL. Love your channel man. Even as many years as I've been at this I still pick up things I didn't know from your videos. Keep up the good work. I'm sure there are many people that get useful information from your videos!
...man...I sure hope I never have to do this Jay, but if I do, I will be coming back to your DIY video as a guide.... great tutorial....thanks for posting..,. 🙂
Nice video, Jay. I have learned that when dryer no heat, test first that you have continuity through the dryer thermostat, the overheat safety stat and then check ther heating element is not open. My problem was an open safety stat due to a dirty dryer vent line. There was a kit for both thermostats for my dryer. The element was fine. My local appliance parts zdistributer had the kit on the shelf.

Hello 👋 🫂 my number one best friend in the world 🌎 good to see you Jay I hope all is well with you and your family I'm doing pretty good 👍 atm . I just got through installing a new washer and dryer for my veterinarian today..the hot water line broke and I had to cut a place in the wall to get back there to fix the lines and I put in a new wall unit for the washer to hook to .. that was a good video Jay and I liked the joke..tell everyone I said hello 👋 good buddy and I love you all stay safe jay..it's been nice weather here but not it's very hot outside.
Hello David!! Good to hear from you, all is well on this side of the world! Sounds like you are quite the handy man and folks in your area know that. 😄 That's awesome! Glad to hear you were able to get the water line fixed and appliances installed without any issues. With all the experience you have you could probably make a channel of your own! I will pass on the greetings, enjoy the beautiful weather over there, God bless you, aloha from Hawaii!!!
Haha may your appliances live long and problem-free despite your urge! 😇 Maybe someone else's can break and you can be their savior and fix it for them.
I had the heater element replaced on my Samsung OEM-built Kenmore after year 7. I was expecting at least another 7 years, but it burnt out again after 3 years. The whole unit's going to the recycle depot if it burns out again, a service call is half the cost of a basic dryer.
That sounds accurate. The new parts are usually not nearly as durable as the old ones. The new dryer machines will experience more breakdowns than the old ones too.
Your pop in-law and I are old school ... I've done the same thing before I was one of those good workers hard to find too Aloha my Friend Oh , were those needle nosed pliers Diamond / Diamoloy ? Thx ...
Aloha Eddy!! Good to see you stop by. Honestly, I respect all of my old school elders! My generation is taught to simply replace parts but your generation actually fixed stuff. I think that's awesome! The needle nosed pliers.. I think they were but I don't remember for sure. I grabbed them from pop-in-laws tool stash. 😄
Yes. Usually they give a couple years before they ban the installation of units that use the old refrigerant so we should be fine for the next few years at least.
I have done this. They could have designed this to more easily access a part that will fail. I also wonder if the heating coil is under tension once installed which causes a break over time. Designed to fail?
I agree! I wish they made things more accessible. The heating coil is cheaply made so the new ones burn out even faster than the old ones. Not sure if that's done on purpose or overall quality of everything is going downhill.
@@WordofAdviceTV Just an FYI, there is a spade connector that has to be removed. The thing was stuck. I pulled on it with pliers and wiggled it. It would not come loose. In retrospect I probably should have sprayed it with some lubricant. Ended up breaking it at the shaft. It’s apparently a proprietary size and couldn’t find a replacement anywhere. Ended up having to solder the wire back on the shaft where it broke.
Nice video but I could not watch it all without getting itchy looking at all the insulation where they actually wash clothes!!!!!!!! How? Those things (fiberglass) fly away from time to time! When I work around that I actually wear a bunny suit and then throw it away and to think people see to walk, live and wash clothes so close to this !!!!!😅
hope this is a good place to ask a question... im in a 65 - 70 yo apartment with old fan coils and the drain for the AC condensation goes about 3-4 feet into the wall , and that 1 inch drain blocks up, so is it wise to use air compressor or a water jet kinda deal to clear it?
I'm having the same exact issue with my dryer. I checked all the vents and cleaned everything out. Replaced the heating element and fuse, and it still won't heat up. What else could be the problem?
When using my dryer I usually set it at medium heat which sets a time for 55 min. But my dryer usually turns off in about 8 min run time. Why does this happen

very good information thanks for sharing teacher
You bet! Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a wonderful new week my friend!

Do the blue and red wires on the burner element matter which way they go? I guess taking a picture before you take them off is a good idea too.
It dont matter it will still heat

@ebelray6890 It does not matter. Either wire can go to either terminal. But yes, taking pictures never hurts and only helps! 🙂
Good informative video! I enjoyed watching it even though I have a gas dryer!

Good video! Very imformative! I learned a LOT about appliances from this channel!!
Every time I watch one of your videos, there's a disturbingly large part of me that wants my appliance to break just so I can fix it.

Question on NEW Refrigerant, When it comes out ❓ Can we still install R410A System after the New refrigerant came out ❓❓
Yes. Usually they give a couple years before they ban the installation of units that use the old refrigerant so we should be fine for the next few years at least.

Amen to that! New generation just replaces the part, old generation actually fixed it and made it work again.
