      @TrumpCat . Many plants would be driven to extinction if that was to occur. Thus, the world would be deprived of drugs that these plants may produce, in the future. There are many things yet to discover, which won’t be, just because some people are inconvenienced by mosquito bites. Notwithstanding the spread of disease carrying mosquitoes into regions not previously inhabited by them, due to climate change. But then again, there is not law anywhere in the world that I know of, that has made stupidity illegal. If fact, most countries in the world have systems that thrive on stupidity.

    Well, now I know why I get bitten so much. I pretty much won the mosquito lottery: tall, active, a bit overweighted and type O blood. I also have a very strong histamine response: sometimes over a week after getting bitten. Great.

    • @paulmanson253
      @paulmanson253 5 лет назад

      Peter Jansen There is a way to deal with mosquito bites. It is literally a pain,but it works. For the very same reason that egg white curdles, the active agent causing the histamine response can be inactivated. It is a protein,and proteins are heat sensitive.
      You need hot water and a metal cup like a shot glass. Ideally with a handle. Use water as hot as you can stand without burning,and the more time goes by after the bite,the deeper the mosquito saliva goes. Apply for about a minute on top of the bite using firm pressure for contact.
      It works for me for almost precisely 24 hours. Needs a second application then. Nevertheless, to stop an itch in its tracks is sometimes very important. It should work for you and if not,it is not an expensive experiment.Cheers.

      @KSeigY 5 лет назад +3

      @@KSeigY
      I go as far as putting on a pant and shirt with long sleeves when I play beach volleyball, just to prevent getting stung by mosquitos. It doesn't prevent getting stung but at least you get stung less and less on places where you rub against all day long. For example, if I get stung on the inside of my legs my jeans rub against that infected skin all day long and the itch drives me nuts every time when I walk. The infection for me looks exactly what he showed in the video @ 7:50. That thick and that large. Indoors I have all my windows blocked with window screens.

    • @peterjansen4826
      @peterjansen4826 5 лет назад

      @@paulmanson253
      So you would have to do that immediately after stung, if it is a few hours later it won't work as well (or take much longer) because the saliva has gotten to deep?

    • @paulmanson253
      @paulmanson253 5 лет назад

      Peter Jansen Essentially, yes. Right away means up to a couple hours. When the mossie proteins go deeper they are harder to reach but not impossibly so. You will have to tinker with your own body for that. Careful with how hot the water is at first. Lots of tender skin damages more easily than hands or feet.
      It is worth doing for me. The itch stops almost right away. The only down side is the need for repeat in 24 hours. I was lucky and found a small metal glass with a handle in a thrift store. Before that I tried other ways of concentrated heat at the bite,but the metal glass works best for me.

About the same time when you'll stop getting bothered by the vinegar smell you'll have forgotten you were itching, 2-5 minutes. This can save people who are allergic to bee stings and such, rub vinegar specially all over the chest and throat to stop the reaction in the area to prevent suffocation while carrying the person to emergency room. Try it next time you get bitten if you don't believe me, I was mindblown when I tried it the first time.

    When I was in the Army as an infantryman with the 101st Airborne Division, we spent a lot of time in the forests and swamps conducting field exercises. As such, just about everywhere we stopped to sleep for the night was always swarming with mosquitoes. One trick I used to repel them was to swallow about 10 match heads (a book of matches was included in our rations) a day. I learned the trick from a guy that served in Vietnam. After a few days, your sweat smelled faintly of sulphur & it kept the blood-suckers at bay.
    The drawback was that your uniform absolutely REEKED & had to be washed several times in high-powered, grease-cutting dish soap.
    I wonder what all the phosphorus, sulphur & other chemicals did to me...

    Not only are mosquitos super attracted to me but I also have the severe response to it where it seems like those bites just won't go away. I'm glad it's winter where I am and they're not active anymore.
    I also think it has to do with how close you live to a water source for them to breed in. Last year I lived nowhere near a water source and I was almost never bitten. This year I moved closer to a swamp and I could barely leave the house without every mosquito in the area deciding to have a feast.

    It's always interesting to see the variation in which people's bodies react when they have a mosquito bite. I know many people who barely get bumps or get bumps which are only ever about the size of a dime (dime= ~0.7 in). I, on the other hand, develop bumps that are typically at least the size of a half-dollar (H-D= ~1.2 in).

    I have type O blood but most mosquitos don't bite me. I went to the jungle in Peru and those mosquitos would land on me but never bite me. I do get itchy if I get bitten but most mosquitos just don't bite. When I went to the mountains in Peru, those mosquitos did bite me all over the ankles and it got really swollen and itchy. Most of the time, mosquitos either don't bite me or can't bite me. I have thick skin so that may play a part in mosquitos being able to give me an effective bite and it might also play a role in them being able to see me as being warm since my skin keeps in more warmth than even I would like.

    I swell up really bad following mosquito bite. So in my experienceI half a Benadryl (or other brand equivalent) will take away the swelling. I carry a vial of them with me at all times (the vials I use are from the Dollar Store craft isle). I recommend everyone carry them in their pocket or purse (great for stings too!)

    Mosquitos definitely love me more. I remember walking with a huge swarm above me. I kept fanning them and running around but they would not leave alone. I hung out near other people but even when I left the group of bloodsuckers followed me. Eventually the mosquito group got very large and a few people started asking about the obvious black swarm above me. I just wear mosquito repellent nowadays.

    I head a story of a mosquito biting a rockstar, he let it finish its business and upon flying away the mosquito immediately died of a heroin overdose. I wonder if that's actually possible...
    Also, I eat a lot of spicy food. Tabasco Sauce every day on almost every meal; go through a bottle a week. Mosquitos avoid me as if my blood were liquid tear gas.

    well, that explains, somewhat, why they seem to stay away from me. I think I have a natural deet or skin so soft so they stay away from me while everyone else in the family gets eaten to death. I'm very skinny and the rest of them are all bigger than I am and I guess I don't taste good so yep they just don't like me atall. Thanks again for solving the answer to another question ya'll. Mosquitoes rely heavily on concealment and not being noticed, those attributes are very strong in their evolution.
    This is why they prefer dark clothing, and movement. Not the reasons you suggest.
    They like movement because it suggests distraction as opposed to an animal that is still, which will be more likely to notice the bite.
    And dark clothing makes it much harder to see the mosquito.

    I don't get bit very often. Actually I haven't been bit by a mosquito in years. I also live out in the country in Ohio. We have a lot of mosquitos. When I go outside to smoke cigs (I don't smoke in my home) I sit in my car. After a while I start getting a few mosquitos coming in the window. They still don't bite me but that just shows they like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
