Nice video! I bought the fantasy village myself and found it quite difficult to build. I had to cut out a lot of the pieces but I guess I was unfortunate to get a set that was precut with a dull blade. It looks much better with painted edges and since you won't put it apart again for storage I actually glued a few more parts to make some buildings more sturdy. Once on the table it looks really good and the box contains a lot of stuff. Probably won't even use all the scattered terrain that came in this box. Amazing that you managed to build at least 5 of those barrels because I found them really hard to build.
Glad you reviewed this. As a Frostgrave and Vanguard player I’m always looking for new stuff at a good price point. I saw this and hummed and hawed about purchasing it. Glad I didn’t now, it looks great and it has a place in gaming just not in my place. I’m too crack handed for a line like this. So it’s back to MDF & GF9 stuff. Slowly slowly old Felstad is rising from the ice.
Thank you for the review. What attracts me to this set is that the buildings are more detailed and have more character than any other fantasy terrain buildings I've seen. The best part is that they're interactive, increasing immersion of narrative driven play. I'm getting this set plus a few more buildings and want to fill the scenes with First Legion Fantasy minis.
I’ve found the opposite wrt storage. It’s easier to store this terrain than my resin plastic etc terrain. It can just be chucked in a box, short of stepping on it it’s been very robust. Where as plastic etc, gotta be careful due to risk of paint scratching etc.
Great review! I think this would look great on a smaller board without any other terrain mixed in. Nice and easy to get going without any painting required. Would be tempted to buy if I got in to Frostgrave or Vanguard.
If you worried about longevity if you dab super glue along the edges the card will go rock solid. You don’t need much. Poundland super cheap super glue will do the job. There’s a guide on battle systems about it. Sorry if anyone else mentioned it.
It’s great kit! Well worth the time to colour the edges. I backed on KS and have village and battlefield set. I gave out the Village set together and don’t really have anything bad to say about it. Just follow the tutorial videos and away you go. Nice review Andy.
Thanks Jack, this was exactly what I was looking for! Great review. I saw Miniaturemarket get these in, but was unsure about the nature and quality of these box sets.
Alcovitch - I don’t mean difficult to store so much as it needs looking after carefully, I don’t feel I have to take as much care with my plastic terrain and also one benefit of card terrain is it can be stored flat to save space - this stuff I wouldn’t want to keep taking it apart.
This set is tough. It's not easy to put together; took me an hour to build and pen the watchtower (pausing and rewinding the video like you said). It's definitely not fun to do, as you really have to pay attention to the video -- can't listen to a podcast or watch a show while doing it. It does look great, but there's no way I'm building these more than once. Would never break these down for storage. Probably will build another building this weekend and decide if I'm going to keep it. Bought it for Frostgrave (they have a snow-covered roof pack), but the time it will take to build all of this and the fact that it has to stay built...I might just build and paint some plastic or mdf kits. I actually enjoy painting up terrain.
I do like it, lots offlexibility and it does look good on the table. I am glad I did the Kickstarter as you got a bit more stuff than in the retail. I was ok with the building of it but my fat fingers struggled with those barrels. Cracking, balanced video.
Thanks mate. I like the stuff but it’s definitely less flexible that the sci-fi stuff and I definitely wouldn’t want to be taking it apart to store like the core space stuff.
I've been looking into purchasing the Battlesystems terrain and while researching I stumbled upon your video, great review and very informative! Also, I really like the battlemat where is that from?
I’ve only just said this to someone else. I think if you just want something fast this is great however I just don’t think it’ll store well for long term use - MDF would certainly hold up better but needs work to make it look good. Not all MDF is as good as Warcradles.
I guess it depends if you have time/inclination to paint mdf... as to storage, well I’m homing to move soon and just about to flat pack an entire KS goodie-filled Village into a tiny box. Comparing that to my large collection of Carnevale terrain, this stuff is a great space saver. That said, I’ll have enough space in the new games room to not need to disassemble so all good.
That’s the issue with it for me - I don’t think I’d want to have to sit through the instructions every time and I think will seriously get damaged keep taking it apart to store it and then time consuming to build again. Other than that it’s a great idea.
I have a quite a lot of their other sets, and you said what I’ve been thinking about doing put it together and leave it, but in Core Space the set up is different for each mission so takes quite a bit of time to set up and they do wear out, but I do like the sets I have, will I get this probably not, I scratch built my village, might get the ruins though
@@BlackJackLegacy true but if it's only the shiney part that bothers you and cost, appearance, space and theme fit why not put a little more effeort into your hobby. I've started making terrain in foam and foam board. Cheap enough and I enjoy making stuff so win/win. Just got to find a local that likes painting for free! 😇
Thanks Andy, the terrain looks great on video, if it's as good "in the flesh" then thumbs up from me. I appreciate any additional options for terrain. I wonder whether a coat of matt varnish would solve the shine and possible robustness issues? :>)
Nice vid! I dont actually play much and when I have the other players bring their own hand made terrain they are quite proud of (as well they should be) but it would be nice to have something easy to have of my own, since I dont really have a interest in the terrain building part of the hobby, :)
Nice review! First thing on my mind was 'i would colour those edges' :D Looks like you had the same idea. I got my fantasy buildings in both mdf, and cardstock (made myself with dave graffam models).Problem for me is, it looks good if you make an entire table of it, but once you start mixing them, the mdf just shines next to them. not going to lie though, that monastery is calling me :D
@@BlackJackLegacy i think that is the strong point in a set like this. If you have a main interest in say for example sci fi, you can go full out on scenery. Mdf, resin the whole nine yards. If you fancy a skirmish game on the side of that but don't want to collect scenery for that, like for example fantasy in this case, a box of these would cover you!
You know what mate - that’s where my head was at after building it all. It looks good once assembled but you can get some decent mdf terrain for £70 too. It’ll take more work but will last longer I think.
But as has been said before for a fast solution it is expensive and if it is really a bit flimsy and not easily transportable, as you said, it might not be a good investment in the future. If you really can´t be bothered with the building terrain part of the hobby this is the thing for you, but even then i would take a look at those pre colored mdf buildings. That said i wouldn´t mind playing on a table set up with that terrain, since it is decent looking, but i personally would start to get itchy to get something more shiny.
@@dirkignatzek Once put together it's not flimsy and I went to Staples and bought a 15 dollar bin that stores the entire Fantasy Village set assembled + the bridge. The price is fine for the amount of stuff in it and if assembled properly, it's pretty damn sturdy. If you break this stuff, you're being extremely careless with your terrain.
Must admit, having backed the post apoc Kickstarter, I totally agree, the concept for these systems is the ability to disassemble, store and redeploy. Not really, as the material soon degrades. Its really a one hit wonder, and the effort may be better spent on the coloured 4ground buildings which will have a far longer life for the same storage constraints. A bit of a let down actually, and the plastic clip system can be too apparent. Meh!
Good review. But come on mate, pentagrams aren't just for devil worshippers. The pentacle predates the pentagram and was commonly used in pagan rituals and is also a symbol used widely by Wiccans.

Cheers mate. I still think it’s great stuff but man I don’t enjoy building it! 😉
Great vid. Glad I backed the Kickstarter on this. Looking forward to having this on my warcry table!
My honest opinion is it’s great as blocking terrain to make the game look nice but I’m not sure I’d want to play on the terrain if that makes sense.

...have put... not “gave out”🙄
Colouring the edges makes a huge difference. It’s time consuming but worth it.

I think for some folks these are perfect - for others they just won’t last well without some good storage options.

Great Video. It does look very cool, I like the idea of not having to paint it all 😁😂
It’s definitely faster than building and painting something but it needs very careful looking after to ensure long term use.

I’m I the only one thinking where were these 25 years ago?
I had the old Games Workshop Necromunda cardstock terrain is it was horrible even back then.
Looks great! Question is is card worth it when MDF like Warcradle's is out?

Might get me some of those village ruins
4:15 you didn’t follow the instructions for the barrels 😁
Thanks for a great video. I agree with your pros and cons on this set. I'm not enjoying putting them together at all :(
Thanks for watching! I think the product has its place and looks great all built but yeah the building ... wasnt fun for me at all.
Could a matt spray varnish get the matt look to them?
I had considered that but then it’s just an extra step. The more and more you need to add to make them work you may as well go with other terrain.

It’s from Deep Cut Studios
I know you well enough to know from the first frame it was a mixed bag. If it was all brilliant you'd have built all of it.

And 100 percent on the non flat pack nature. No way I’m disassembling this stuff.
For the price you get alot of terrain , shame they are not designed to flat store.
Yeah I agree. You could take them apart but I feel that may effect the lifespan of them weakening the connection joins over time.
