Been road biking for years but was interested in trying out the gravel craze. Didn’t want to drop an insane amount of money for a quality Gravel bike so I love what brands like Canyon and Fezzari offer. More for less. After seeing this video I pulled the trigger on getting one for myself. Couldn’t be more stoked! Never thought I would’ve ever bought a Fuchsia colored bike but really, it’s sick! Also great content! Thanks for the work you put in and the quality in which you do it.
I'm looking to finally pull the trigger on a good quality, versatile, gravel bike and happened upon your channel and absolutely love your approach to showcasing bikes. Concise, entertaining, good editing, and very even volume tones with no wind noise. Well done! Also this bike is at the top of my list from the research I've done.

@@fabiankohler6023 It´s full suspension, so I think there are better bikes for bikepacking. Small Mtb triangle and has no mounting on the shock fork... The dropper post is also not ideal for a rear rack.
I ride a Grail AL and love it. Canyon sell their own fender kit that goes to those small bolt holes and it is actually really good right out the box. Mine is on the bike all year.
I have and LOVE that saddle. A cheap, short, crazy comfy gravel saddle that feels just right. I hear you on the sticky factor, but I like that vibe, the more "slippery" saddles can be challenging on a gravel or mtb because slipping out of position is worse than a temporary adjustment of starting in the wrong position, IMHO
Iduno, even if you make $500/wk that’s a months pay for a bike you can ride and enjoy and keep for years. Kinda makes sense that in 2023 $1800 is the new “affordable” imo.
I was thinking about grizl, but decided to go with cheap Poseidon X Ambition and upgrade it with few parts.. since I am more MTB, and gravel is not my primary bike. love it.. the only con - max tire width is like 44mm for 700C wheels and 1.9-2 for 650b...
Got a Canyon Grail CFsomething-7. (The one with the floater bar/stem combination - which looks very cool.) The bike is generally good, but a couple of issues were: - the BB was crap-plastic. - Replaced that trash with with a bbinfinite, and creak fest is over. Much better. - the headset just will not stay setup right. Following C's instructions for assembly, torques etc. It works itself loose and you get slop in the front end. Bottom line, tighten it up again and again and agin... Overall my impression is that Canyon is not such a great deal. Next time I'll go with a maker that doesn't do weird shit with critical part designs (the headset) and doesn't hide garbage (that BB) in the frame to save a few bucks.
I was looking for those on the website and it only showed fenders for the Grail. So I didn’t know if the grizzle Ashley had its own fenders. Now I know and thank you.
Hey Dustin! I've got a Canyon Grail Al with electronic shifters and bought the AXS dropper and it's so much fun. The fender situation is something you got to get from Canyon themselves. Got rid of the butt-rubber as well. Munched away my pants! Thanks for the awesome vids and keep on Gravlin'!
The thing with Canyon is if you want no-problem 10-minute assembly accessories (mudguards, racks, kickstands) then you have to go with their stuff. They are good, they fit perfectly but yeah... that's a vendor lock-in.

Great video, Dustin! I have a Grizl 7 AL suspension and it works like a charm. I agree on the saddle being too grippy and I will be changing it. I also had some doubts about riding on the road, but now it's totally fine. Cheers! 🍻
I have a Canyon Grizl CF SL 7 1by and I love it. I did upgrade the saddle immediately but that's standard practice and upgraded the wheels a few months after purchase. Got her down to 19 pounds!
I have the Grizl CF SL 7. Been riding it almost every day for a year and a half now. Love it! The saddle mine came with might be worse than the one yours came with tho as at least yours has the channel in the middle. An advantage of the AL frame is that it has rear rack mounts that the CF lacks. The bike has an "aggressive" stack and reach so flipping the stem was a must for me.
I got the carbon version of this (at a nice discount because of my job). Swapped the saddle to something more comfortable. Put a wolftooth roadlink and a spuper wide 11-42t cassette on the 2x so I have tons of range for making it through hard climbs even though I'm not the most fit rider in the group. Put a more flared handlebar on for personal preference. The fenders were in stock in Germany so I have them on. Made it though tons of muddy and wet rides recently staying prettty clean compared to my group :) I actually really like the grippy saddle on my fixed gear bike though. It has so many mounts and is such a solid bike, I still go back and forth on whether I should have gotten the Alu version for the extra rack mounts. But the Alu version doesn"t come in the Curry Yellow color :)
Canyon is amazing. They don't skimp on the kit... Selle Italia saddles... GP5000 tires (on the road bikes)... DT Swiss wheels... all for cheaper direct-to-consumer prices.
I have this pink beauty and I love it. Ive been a die hard enduro rider for ever, and bought this bike to dip my toes into gravel riding. What a BA machine! I did 30 miles my first ride on it because it was so fun and zoomy haha.
This is the second review I’ve seen on the Grizl where the reviewer didn’t like the grippy seat - and looks like there’s a third mentioned in the comments of the other review. I kinda hope they keep this saddle in case I do decide to buy one. My experience with my old CAAD9 after an expensive laser fit years ago is that when I’m pushing, my butt automatically slides forward and out of the ideal position at the back of the saddle. I’d love a stickier saddle! However, I’m not experienced with trail riding, which it looks like you guys are doing. Maybe it’s more important to move around in those conditions. Now if you were really just sticking to gravel roads it might be closer to road conditions. You guys are basically riding it as a mountain bike from what I can see. Cool that it handles it!
I would love to see you review a completely entry level state bike (4130 all road) and then put some mods (like brakes and your other stock complaints) on it for
I love, love, love canyon. Have an endurace di2 and grand canyon hardtail. If you know what you want without trying out bikes there is no better option. Their fit guide is spot on.
I ride with he Grizl CF SL 7 eTap, its a great bike. It's been my first direct to consumer bike, had some minor issues with the seat clamp but canyon sorted out right away. I also appreciate canyon offering a true XXL frame that fits taller riders.
I have a Canyon Aeroad, its damn fast, feels fast, but you can still ride century's (miles) with ease. I also have a Grail Sl with the hover bar and split seat post running 38's and 2X. It the perfect all round weapon. Not as fast as the Aeroad but more than capable on-road and is tough enough for abuse off-the-road too and with the 48th big ring you can go faaast on the smooth gravel/ fire roads here in the UK.. Great content.
One month ago I got the CF SL 8 in rim brake mafia. You're right the saddle has to go, way too grippy. I slapped on some Mercury S5's with 28mm tires. I'm really digging this bike. Note: sizes run big so talk to a rep before ordering.
I'm a road bike person, but I just got this bike. I took it for its first ride today, and I dig it. I don't hate the saddle, but I did regret forgetting my gloves- my hands wanted more padding.
I have a Canyon Grail AL as my intro to a "real" bike and so far I'm loving it! (After you know, putting hundreds of miles on a Schwinn from the 90s...)
Science has proven the compliance of frame material is MINUTE compared to your seatpost, wheels, tires, and bars. All those play a much larger factor! But great video. Budget builds are the baaaaaast
I have a 2021 Grail AL 6. Quality bike. I got some posh DT Swiss carbon gravel wheels and it’s transformed it further. Don’t need a posh expensive frame. The tech in bikes is so good now. Wheels make the biggest difference to performance and weight saving. Canyons are great value for the money. My only gripe is that the frames are mostly made in China.
The only thing weird is the geo and sizing on the Canyon Grizl. But I'd also hardly call it an "entry level" aluminum @ just under $2k. It's an entry level in their lineup, but hardly entry level in the market. The 700x50 Aggregates are great tires. I have a set of those along with 700x50 Kimberlites, also fantastic! They both roll along smooth and quiet, and they're very durable/reliable. In 2yrs I've never got a puncture with either set!
i love my grizl! My 8th Canyon since 2000. Tip: Also a good colour matching for the canyon matchia (green/grey) colour is the specialized Recon 2.0 Gravel/Road bike Shoe in blue (the blue is more of a grey).
I just ordered Grizl 7 AL with a suspension fork, 2by (matcha). Was "forced" due to out of stock of the other one with rigid fork, because who knows when it will be available again. Didn't want to wait and hope. Paid extra 200 Euro. Hope I made a right choice! Can't wait to try it!
Have had a Grail for nearly three years - LOVE IT! Got it just before the Grizl was announced. Going back to Koblenz in a couple weeks to try one for my wife.
Dude, thank you for this review! And all your videos really. It was one of the first videos on gravel bikes I watched, and as I had been looking at a Grizl as my top choice for entry-level bikes, I just got mine last week! A lot of that was thanks to this video and your review. So far I freaking love it! Thanks again!
Man, the video is so awesome and you deserve more views. I can't wait to receive the Grizl 8 1by EKAR. I have already a MTB grand Canyon CF SL 6.9 and a CF SF carbon.. and they are greaaaaat.
I got a Canyon Grizl CF 7 Rival AXS last year and it has been my everything bike. It's tremendous off-road and yet with a spare set of wheels running Panaracer 622-40 slicks it hoons along on road rides fast enough. Can't fault it - as for the mudguards/fenders I got them when I ordered the bike but they're the same as the Grail:ON set
Got my hands on a grail and lovin' it. Know the issue with the fenders but there is a solution! Canyon sales specific fendors for their bikes. Easy to install but sadly a little bit to short. Ride on 🤙
It's just too bad that a lot of potentially amazing bikes skip on proper fender and rack mounts. Living in the rainy dutch lowlands, that would lean to a no for me. How hard can it be to include them, the majority of people are not that (gravel)race focused. Rides/races! 🤘🏽😎 Oh and kudos for those Adidas kicks, love them!! 🙌🏾
I'm waiting for new Grizl 8 1by, for this moment I use Endurace Sf Sl 7 and I love this bike. I'm affraid how it gonna be to switch from carbon to alu. Geometry of this bike is perfect, first bike I did not have to make profesional bikefitting, I just jumped on it made 70 km and no pain. I just love it - second thing is that direct sale give us better oportunity to have better groups comparing to other producers. btw You make grate job, Your chanel is made in such crazy and interesting way. You are top man :-) Gratings from Poland
I love m’y Grizl !! I just had a problem with the crankset but all good. The bike versatile and fast. I agree with your cons and it needs a dropper for sure haha
I almost bought a Canyon a few years ago. I still love my Chumba Terlingua, steel. Ordered it straight from Chumba, had it together in under an hour. Canyon still interests me.
have a very similar grizl AL, same colour, but with the double chainrings. I love it, as you noticed too I changed the saddle with a Prologo but for the rest it's 100% stock and works great. Best money ever spent on a bike.
I’ve ordered this bike (2x not 1x and matcha, not grape) today and can’t wait till it arrives. I live in the Netherlands and have got a road bike and Xc bike. But I think this bike will be perfect for the terrain over here and there are gravel routes and events all over the place. I will have to wait 3 months tho…
Hello,Dustin! As for me I like every movie you made. if I have electricity I will watch it))) it is very interesting for me how people ride in US))) different weather and landscapes, people and their bikes are so cool))) Ukraine, Kharkiv.
Hi there, I have the Grizl CF 7 and just love it!! I did replace the handle bar for a carbon one, the saddle and put a redshift stem on it. Thanks for great video content! 😊
Canyon Ultimate owner since 2020 and love it. My only complaint would be the 1 1/4” steerer tube width which makes the inevitable post purchase stem customization a pain
Usually the bike comes with its own mounting hardware to fit a normal sized fender if it is wonky. Are you sure the bike didn't come with mounting hardware for it?
How tall are you? Their site guides me to a M which is odd. I’m almost 6’ 1” and every other bike brand I’m a L or XL I notice you’re on a L I’d love your feedback on sizing.
Great review! I love the looks of that bike. Modern aluminum frames are much better than the early years. Those first gen cannondales (had an '85) were harsh. Will you talk about those shoes more?
You ran american classsic tire on the front. Wanted to mention ive been running their "Lamplighter' tire in 650b and they're amazing. Thx for the video Roscoe
You can still support the small business and your local bike shop if you take the disassembled bike to a mechanic to assemble it for you. :) A bit extra cost but still probably lower than having a middle distributor.
My wife got one of these. I’m pretty jealous. She loves it and it looks fantastic. Also, thanks for mentioning the specs printed on the bike. I thought that was a great touch. Matches the tech aesthetic of Canyon’s brand but is so damn helpful when the bike is in the work stand.
Nice, I got the exact same bike. Your Welds look weird, my bike is smooth and there are no welds visible. But nice to see that im not the only dude who rocks this colorway
Amazing video Dustin. Im in the Netherlands and riding a Grizl SL 7 for gravel. Curry yellow ofcourse. Love the bike and with 2.3k euro is bang for buck. GRX 600/800 mix and carbon. It rips!
I have this bike in a XXL frame. It’s my first drop bar and I love it, only change I’ve made is replacing the seat with something more comfy. Planning on upgrading the wheels at some point but couldn’t be happier with it
Yeah, I don't like a grippy saddle either. I'm a "shuffler" on the saddle and constantly move around, unless I'm on the track when I'm in one position but not for very long. Not sure why I needed to share that really. Cool story. 😊
underestimating ppl, they're crazier than you think, they ride in all types of weather all the time for no reason!!! they're not even getting paid lol LOVE IT! cant wait to get my Trek ALR 5
The other con about consumer direct is what if someone had an issue with a bike or a warranty issue? The consumer did save money, but may need to contact a shop if help is needed down the road. Having a great relationship with a shop is key.... and eliminating small business is a huge problem.

I have the same bike just smaller and it came with the grx810 rear derailleur and grx600 everywhere else. Love this bike! 👍🏽
This has the 810 derailleur. The default GRX600 groupset build has 600 shifters and crank, 400 brakes, and 800 derailleurs.
Considered a Grizl before I landed on my Hakka. Nice bike!
Good call!
Have one the same Colour, grx also 2x front. But the frame finish It’s smooth, you can’t see the welding in the frame. Mine’s last year model.
Got my hands on a grail and lovin' it. Know the issue with the fenders but there is a solution! Canyon sales specific fendors for their bikes. Easy to install but sadly a little bit to short. Ride on 🤙
I had to watch @3:07
a few times to figure out what you did there. Nice editing!
It's just too bad that a lot of potentially amazing bikes skip on proper fender and rack mounts. Living in the rainy dutch lowlands, that would lean to a no for me. How hard can it be to include them, the majority of people are not that (gravel)race focused. Rides/races! 🤘🏽😎
Oh and kudos for those Adidas kicks, love them!!
Once upon a time during a live show, I stated I rode a purple bike. Well you found my purple bike and I love my Canyons have a Neuron as well!
Those Adidas and the Canyon, you did the damn thing DK.
I love m’y Grizl !! I just had a problem with the crankset but all good. The bike versatile and fast. I agree with your cons and it needs a dropper for sure haha
changed the saddle of my grizl at once to a wtb gravelier. great.
I got the Grizl 7 AL with Rock Shox suspension. I Love everything about it besides the saddle it came with. Got Fizik Terra Argo instead.
I almost bought a Canyon a few years ago. I still love my Chumba Terlingua, steel. Ordered it straight from Chumba, had it together in under an hour.
Canyon still interests me.
The shoe/bike matchy match game is STRONG! Much enve😜
❤
have a very similar grizl AL, same colour, but with the double chainrings. I love it, as you noticed too I changed the saddle with a Prologo but for the rest it's 100% stock and works great. Best money ever spent on a bike.
I have a canyon Lux World Cup CF mtb and I love it, rides super nice and the remote lockout is sweet.
YOU will be stoked!
Hello,Dustin! As for me I like every movie you made. if I have electricity I will watch it))) it is very interesting for me how people ride in US))) different weather and landscapes, people and their bikes are so cool))) Ukraine, Kharkiv.
The big plus is that Canyon and Shimano has support for their products at the Unbound Gravel race. I'm not sure about other gravel races.
I also have the Canyon Grizl...light green color 2x drivetrain...love it!
You should do a review on the Poseidon x bike
Bought a Canyon Grail 6 last spring. Love it!
Dude i've been on the fence about a grizl. Thanks for this. I'm jumping it on it now.
Love this!
Just got Grizl 6, $1300, free shipping, and I'm loving it. Only downside is it came with the FSA crankset.
What crankset model is it? Looking at getting it too, and saw the note on the page about the supply chain issue.
got a Grizl CF SL 6 and I‘m freaking LOVE IT🤯🤘🏻
My wife got one of these. I’m pretty jealous. She loves it and it looks fantastic. Also, thanks for mentioning the specs printed on the bike. I thought that was a great touch. Matches the tech aesthetic of Canyon’s brand but is so damn helpful when the bike is in the work stand.
Great video. Nice combination of fun, fact and opinion. Strong technical/aesthetic as well. Happy trails!
Nice, I got the exact same bike. Your Welds look weird, my bike is smooth and there are no welds visible. But nice to see that im not the only dude who rocks this colorway
TIME FOR DAT SWALE TUBER!
Planning on upgrading the wheels at some point but couldn’t be happier with it
Hello, may I ask your height & inseam please? Canyon is recommending XXL for me (6’6” & 36 inch inseam)
@@t4nkman I’m 6’5 and not sure what my inseam is, I just always go for the largest frame size and had no problems with a XXL frame
@@flavourbusiness3870 Thanks very much, Sir. I should be OK with the XXL.
I have a Canyon XC MTB...the Exceed CF SL. Love it!
Yeah, I don't like a grippy saddle either. I'm a "shuffler" on the saddle and constantly move around, unless I'm on the track when I'm in one position but not for very long.
Not sure why I needed to share that really. Cool story. 😊
I had a Canyon Grizl CFSL8 last season. The vibrations were violent, I sold it and bought a fairlight faran.
underestimating ppl, they're crazier than you think, they ride in all types of weather all the time for no reason!!! they're not even getting paid lol LOVE IT! cant wait to get my Trek ALR 5
The other con about consumer direct is what if someone had an issue with a bike or a warranty issue? The consumer did save money, but may need to contact a shop if help is needed down the road. Having a great relationship with a shop is key.... and eliminating small business is a huge problem.
You shoud do a video about sun care. I also ordered the sunblock that you recommended. Hopefully it doesn't blind me when I'm riding (like the others)
