One common denominator is that all got creole roots in Louisiana. Tookie Williams was originally from Shreveport/New Orleans and he grew up fatherless watching the black panther party on TV so he adapted some concepts from them. Now if he we all connecting the dots Bone produced a documentary called bastards of the party connecting the bloods and crips to the BPP. The problem if the link exists then it was created out the prison faction of Black Panthers under George Jackson called the Black Guerilla Family.

There is an indirect connection, and I believe that OG Frog has an incomplete or downright bias Fact 1) There were Pre-Black Panther Era Factions such as the Avenues, Slauson's, Businessman, Gladiators, Brims, Athens Park Boys, Watts Farmers, and a few others, after the Watts Riots in 1965 the Black Panthers set up shop in Oakland and LA. Fact 2) Most of the Pre-Black Panther Era Gangs and Gang Members got absorbed under the LA Chapter of the BPP with Bunchy Carter thus minimal gang activity in LA from 1966-1969? 3) Bunchy Carter passed away in a dispute with the US Organization at UCLA in an infamous slaying in 1969 4) Factionism within the BPP and outside of the BPP coupled with the COINTELPRO rendered the BPP ineffective. 5) The re-emergence of some Pre-BPP gangs returned Avenues being one, Baby Avenues was the junior branch or Avenue Cribs, A power vacuum ensued and the youth who looked up to the BPP took to the means that the BPP did to try and self-regulate their neighborhoods this included robbing pimps and drug dealers, some wore leather jaccets which was considered an EXTREME dishonor to the image and likeness of the BPP. 6) The youth admired the BPP and wanted to rob what they considered the trash of the community and protect against outsiders too (corrupt PD/Spookhunters), 7) Further BPP factionism ensued until it was rendered incapable and/or irrelevant. 8) The Palladium incident with Robert Ballou Jr along with other issues lead to Piru Street Boys defecting from the Crips, assembling a meeting on Piru Street in 1972 and an invitation to Anti Crip neighborhoods such as the Swans, Brims, BH, Lanes, Athens Parks, Bishops, (Look at the names of the groups all old Pre-Panther era gangs who did not turn crip except for Pirus before defection) formed the Bloods. These are the links Alex Alonso is trying to articulate but Frog dont wanna speak on it due to incompleteness, bias, or only looking at things from a very local Watts standpoint.

Being a revolutionary by definition is being anti government. This is why the panthers were targeted. Their ties to communism, Cuba, and anti government. It wasn’t just because they were black.
Look up the word “Revolution”. Look at other countries “revolutions”… A revolution is changing the government.

So u seeing the bias too, and the bitterness, then he go on to say thank the Lord and this and that, We have to checc our biases and look at things from different lenses, A Crip lens will say what about them pre-Blood/Crip era gangs that used to exploit the community, rob ppl and prostitute the sistas and was acting on trying to bring bacc community protection the way the panthers did, Tyrone Tate (founder of the Jordan Downs Crips) co-founded it with Huey Newton nephew, ppl was robbing ppl for leather jaccets cuz it was a disrespect to the image and likeness of the BPP to sell drugs and exploit the community for one and even worse doing it with a LEATHER JACCETT, but the very monster crips was trying to fight, they became a part of

No connection except some people knowing each other.
Panthers robbing banks to fund programs and Crips robbing jackets is not the same. Criminal gangs have been around before, during, and after the Panthers. Panthers were a revolutionary group from the start. Crips were a street gang from the start. Frog being a Blood has nothing to do with anything and he personally knew all those Crips. Don't you know that criminal groups like the Crips/Bloods can exist at the same time as a group like the Panthers?

I understand what he is saying the early, black gangs in LA did not have aby direct ties to the black panthers because there creation was doing the exact opposite of what the black panthers were teaching. Yes there were loose ties but that's not how the gangs grew, it was with robbery intimidation etc

revolutionaries were trendy in the 1950s-1960s when the panthers were coming up. they studied what was going on in china, libya, middle east countries, africa, cuba, and other places. in the late 50s-60s, african countries were gaining independence from their colonial masters. web dubois was still around, and black people had different ideas of how to achieve freedom. Some wanted to do it peacefully but some felt like war would be necessary to obtain it. at that point in time, revolution was seen as a possible tool to obtain freedom. america is only 250 years old now, so in the 60s...it was only 100 something years old.
so if revolutions were happening in countries that existed for 1000s of years, young black Americans who were studying the world felt like that was necessary in America. But America has the fbi/cia/cointelpro and they feared revolutionaries because they assumed they would link up with Russia or communists, so they shut it down. America was invented by a revolution but they would never allow one to happen, especially by a minority that's only 12% of the population in 2024. But in the 60s, it was understandable. You couldn't even go to a white hospital if you got into a car accident that hurt you.
Things were tough. Italians were putting heroin in our communities. Rough times for sure. Even rockstars were under surveillance in the 1960s because for the first time in history, pop culture existed like it does now. Fans of music would adopt the ideas of their favorite artists. So people like John Lennon were under surveillance, actors and actresses, etc. America was paranoid in the 1950s-1960s because of the Cold War. Last thing America was going to allow was a revolution.
Because they feared the blacks would team up with all kinds of other people and literally revolt...so they took those brothers out, infiltrated their organization, etc. Isley Brothers even made songs about about how the government unalived those college students who protested the Vietnam war. But it got to a point where the government had to realize, people had the right to express themselves. So eventually they stopped. But the American government took out a lot of lives in the 50s-60s...
not just here on our own land, but they took out African leaders, Iranian leaders, etc. America was super scared of communism and they labeled the Panthers communists; so they killed them off. They didn't care about Crips forming because they were high school dropouts who terrorized their community. They liked that. Then they liked the idea of the prison industrial complex. The black leaders who had the power to organize were doing it for criminal purposes, and they were going to be food for the prison industrial complex in the 80's.
The government had their hand in all of this. They allowed the criminal element to grow...they made money off these criminals spending millions and billions into the economy on foreign cars, etc. They seized their money when they got caught...the government probably made billions off arresting kingpins and seizing their assets. So yeah, the government is OK with black people organizing themselves for criminality, but not for political purposes. That's why we're so divided now in 2024. The government steered our community into this direction, but we allowed them to.
