The two Ages he writes about "creating" are 233 and 234, not 98 and 99. D'ni uses a base-25 number system. Each digit represents a multiple of 25, so if you see a "9" symbol followed by an "8" symbol, it's actually 9*25 + 8 = 233. The whole thing with Boiler Island is showing how Gehn is making Linking Books. He has trees cut down on Jungle Island where they are transported to Boiler Island via the mine cart, which ends at a woodchipper. The wood chips are then boiled in the large boiler to make wood pulp, which is then pressed into paper. You also see Gehn's paper threading machine for binding the pages into books in his lab. Anyway, there's a lot of cool stuff going on in Gehn's lab there.
