- Maybe I'm a bit biased (Okay I'll admit it, I am!), but I prefer Peter Allen's version of "You and Me" ("We Wanted It All") above and beyond all the others! It could be because songwriters know how their songs should sound. Co-written with Carole Bayer Sager, "You and Me" was written for Frank Sinatra's 1980 Trilogy album. Sinatra preferred the title, "You and Me", while Allen preferred the title, "We Wanted It All", but whose to argue with the legendary Frank Sinatra? This scene from Peter's 1981 Radio City Music Hall Concert with The Rockettes is his first time performing the song, which is very impressive:)

The most beautiful music I
ever heard.
I cry every day as I think what he could do if he lived longer.
😢 God bless you as you turned 80 years old in a few days.
He accomplished a lot within those 48 years. Enough for many lifetimes.
This song makes me cry, every time! Loved Peter Allen, gone much to soon.
It's a gorgeous song!
Great Song, still relevant in 2022, times changed and we lost how they made songs like this.
A good song is hard to find nowadays.
Excellent. I saw his show at Radio City Music Hall on Easter Sunday. To open the show he came out on a huge elephant! Not only a great songwriter/singer but also a true showman.
I wish I saw photos of him on the elephant. Seen some where he was on a camel, but not an elephant.🐫🐘
Well never ever forget PETER ALLEN! So sad to loose him so young at 48 yrs old! I loved him.
Let's keep his music, spirit, and legacy alive through our everlasting love for him!💖💗💕
Beautiful song
It really is!
This was my Wall Street days and Peter was the bomb
Wall Street can be stressful so a Peter concert was probably a nice stress reliever!
It was one of the highlights of the night. Was there. Along with all the Allen lovers, including the late Bob Fosse. We had a nice exchange during the intermission. It’s the only time I met him. We didn’t talk dance…We talked Peter Allen. The reason we were all there at Radio City. Will never forget
What a fantastic memory and to meet Bob Fosse too! To have actually been there must have been beyond unbelievable! I wish his other shows at Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall were recorded for those who either couldn't make it or weren't born yet!
What a beautiful theatrical performance!
It sure is!🎶😃
Yes, he sings it well. He wrote it with Carole Bayer Sager (sp) sorry. He wrote it for Old Blue Eyes. Not taking anything away from Peter, but listen to Sinatra's rendition. The phrasing of Sinatra is impeccable!
Melissa Manchester did a good version as well. I guess anyone who sings this song automatically sounds good!😀
To me his version is still the best, the raw emotions are there and somehow makes you melancholy.
Definitely!!!
Sinatra's delivery was second to none.
first time seeimg this version...... great ...
Hope you enjoyed it!👍🎵
Watching the author sing something is so so special-you see and feel the raw emotion they wrote about. Watch him sing I honestly love you and try to hold back the tears. Thanks for this channel, I love it.
And Thank you Peter. We miss you.
Thank you for watching and for commenting!😀
gorgeous song sung with perfect phrasing and so much emotion--- best version
It is quite beautiful and touching:)
First time seeing this great version. The man could pace his songs so effectively. Must have learned a few tricks from the mother-in-law!
He must have! I'm so glad that you finally got to see this wonderful version. It's nice to finally let these video clips see the light of day and be watched by many people around the world:)
Brilliant. ❤️
👍
Without doubt the best version.
You are completely right about that:) In my opinion, the ultimate version of Peter singing this beautiful song is at: ruclips.net/video/DoiuqmyWNgk/видео.html. Nothing can compare to it!!!
@@TheMusicMagicofPeterAllen Oh, yeah! On the late show he did not have to conserve his energy and voice for an entire concert. Great juxtaposition of his performances.
I went away. I keep coming back. Not for the showtunes but for slow heartbreaking melodies like this. Frank kicked it up a notch but Peter wrote it. Can't go past Tenterfield tho
Welcome back!
Thank you from my deepest heart place for this dearest post
That's why I created this channel - to share Peter's magic and for comments like yours!😊
This comes at the end of the drew Barrymore movie irreconcilable differences
about a little girl who divorces her parents
I saw this film loads of times without knowing who wrote it
I'd recommend watching it to anyone who likes this song
I've never heard of this movie.
It's directed by Sam Wanamaker it stars Ryan O'Neil Shelley long and a young Sharon stone it's from about 1985@@TheMusicMagicofPeterAllen
A great performance of a great song! Do you know why the back cover of the "Not The Boy Next Door" album mistitles this song as "You And Me (We Had it All)"? It's an American pressing; I hope the mistake was not in all countries. Maybe the typesetter had just heard Bertie Higgins' "Key Largo."
Oh yes, the big "We Had It All" typo. I'm so glad you noticed that typo, too, since it's on all the records and CDs. The cassette tape is correct though. It's funny how the title on the back cover of the record is wrong, but the sticker that lists the songs on the vinyl record is correct. One of the vinyl singles for the song, "Not the Boy Next Door" lists David Foster as the song's writer rather than Dean Pitchford. I hope Dean is still getting royalties on that particular single despite the typo!
How to write and sing your song. Peter Allen.
One of my fave songs of his.
Very nice. He doesn't have the finesse that Sinatra had, nonetheless, he did co-write this song, with Carole Bayer Sager. Sadly, Peter contracted AIDS and died at age 48, far too soon, but this song with Sager really tells a sad story, and the song will live on because it is so relatable!
It certainly has fine lyrics!!!
Such a beautiful rendition of this song---much more tender feeling than Sinatra's version. And, I'm happy this was before his dreadful hairpiece.
Peter should have went bald naturally; it really suited him!
