My brother died about 6 months ago in a sprint car racing accident. He was blowing up the tires before his race and one exploded and crushed the whole left side of his head. This was his favorite song on the entire planet. And it will forever be the song that reminds me of him
So sad to die so young but I hope he loved what he was doing....and that he didn't suffer long. Terrible tragedy. Such a great song.....gotta love anyone who enjoys it as much as i do!!!!
everybody says that country sucks, but if you're ever at a party and you start to play this song....everybody, and i mean EVERYBODY sings along and NOBODY complains, what does that tell yah?????? COUNTRY RULES!
Sending long distance hugs, for ur loss. I lost my 29 yr old daughter on Feb 2 2023, & she loved this song too! Hopefully, they're singing this together, & fishing in the dark...
Hey... We're all blind by now.. All mistakes. Has to be 😂 (only 34 but it makes me feel better to think we're all a bunch of old bat's with bad eyes who accidentally clicked the dislike button.)
I'm Denver born and raised, and the Dirt Band was quite highly thought of around here back in the day. One of the very first concerts I ever saw was when they played the field house of the local college. Fun show. Perhaps my biggest memory of that night was how often everyone in the band would just switch instruments and they'd all play something else every few songs. LOTS of talent there.
I’ll never forget this song. Driving around in high school and my buddies Ford ranger pick up. Going hunting fishing such a great life. What the fuck happened?
This man is playing drums and the harmonica at the same time. Even at the most simple pattern that's some talent for sure! Love the song, thanks Brandon Walker 👍🤘
I am terribly sorry about your brother, it is a tragedy. Especially when your love ones pass the way your brother did. But I'll tell you one thing he picked a good country song. God Bless your brother may he be with God always. And God Bless you and your family. Don't be sad just think of your brother and Fishing I'm the dark
And no one there has any recording device held in the air, but instead are just sitting there listening and appreciating this incredible band! Those were the days
This is a song, that to me, it's a good simple life. I was in the Air Force in south Georgia. This song matters. It's showing the simple pleasures of life, by just being kind to each other. We truly are all God's children. It's just about being good to each other. That's all God wants, Jesus too! My father in heaven. 🙏
His name is Mike, he is my favorite ex boyfriend. He sang this to me as we danced in the basement of a frat house, UW Madison, 1991… I broke his heart because I felt I wasn’t worthy of his love. Nevertheless, this song always makes me think of him and smile!
When I was a very young girl, 8,9, 10... my aunt Billy and Cousin Dawn, used to run the Fan Club for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and a few summers I got to travel with my Aunt and Cousin following the band around selling shirts, tapes, posters etc... it was a lot of fun. These guys treated me very well and gave me back stage passes to every concert. Back when Lenny Martinez was the manager. Good times and memories I will never forget.
Play this song for my wife.We both love it.To us,it's all catch and release. We believe in saving fish for the next generations. Think of what it would be like if there was no fishing!Peace everyone.
When I was 18 I went to the wonderful local record store and realized that my version on the Greatest Hits of the Classic Nitty Gritty Dirt Band wasn't the same as mine. Born in 1980 and was forcibly submerged into 70-80 Cali County music by people that hate Classic Country. Thank God and Opa for showing me the way. Opa moved to Alaska in the late 60s and loved Johnny Horton and many other country artists. North to Alaska! Spring time is cold.
Taken from the album "Hold On" (1987), this was the last Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album to feature founding member John McEuen before leaving for a solo career until returning to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 2002. The album produced 3 chart-topping singles: "Baby's Got a Hold on Me", "Fishin' in the Dark", and "Oh What a Love".👍
I was born a city gal. I want to live country so bad. But I'm stuck here. This song takes me out to cool rivers in summertime Montana. My feet in the water and my boy by my side. When I turn 18... I'm gone. Livin' the easy way of life(:
My daddy died in 09 and this gives me goose bumps every time. Something my momma til this day doesn't get. It don't matter if we sit forever and the fish don't bite. This song is it.
What kind of cretin would give this a "thumbs down"? This is classic stuff, and if you don't recognize that then you are useless. The Dirt Band was, is, and always will be awesome.
Today is 4/25/2024 & I've just learned about this song. And I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! Been playing it @ least 20 times a day since the 1st time . It's a FEEL GOOD song!!
I’m not a big country fan. I’m even less of an old school country fan. But this song hits me in a different way and I can’t explain it. It’s almost a perfect song. I can’t stop listening to it 😂 it’s great!
I love all the music by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Each band member adds something special, but I could listen to Jimmy Ibbotson sing all day. He makes you want to jump up and sing along!
Those loud, staccato, guitar licks, and the harmonica coming in right behind them are uncommonly good. Not to mention the great vocal harmony. This has become a strong, but pleasant ear worm, lately.
Sing it, Jimmy!!! He surely does NOT look drunk. My GOD, where would anybody think that! He's just having a good time singing a fun song. End of story! These guys were pro's!! Great vid -- thanks for sharing it with us! :-)
My grandma and my favorite. I met people who said they formed a later band with the singer and they said that my passion just came from a passion for this song then based on what I said, I said, "yeah." She and I watched this performance together on late night television. Facts be known they had the most desirable property in the Green Bay region, I lived with them for awhile as a child a property overlooking I-43, grandma was unmatched by anyone, she loved old country music. And her and grandpa had a big party every year they never talked about but planned perfectly, the 4th of July, Independence Day of those who came to the what was to become the U.S. If there was even to be a queen of this country it would of been grandma, and everyone knew it. She just was that way, not a single person would of even even considered messing with her just because of how she was, that can't be defined.
★★★★★ I loved this Song when I was a kid! I use to listen to it whenever I went to my Grandma & Grandpa's place. Good times.....Good times. Thank you for posting it!
My wife-to-be introduced me to it as well, and this performance got me HOOKED on it! Can't get enough of it! We will be dancing to this at our wedding in 6 weeks.
