A congress woman made public statement on 4 - 9 -2019 , She is a native from Guatemala - she first of all was thankful for what she achieved because of America .But then she says that the problems down there are those caused by the Trump Administration . Easy to throw racks at this guy - just like people climb the wall to hurl stones at security and law enforcement - whom are armed . Instead of going back in opposite direction and deal with the ones who caused them to have to leave in the first place . Also that congress woman knows that she has family down there . She starts making statements against them - they will come to US and cut down her family ties and also attack family she still has in Guatemala - that's how it works . Although we need wall in certain spots , I would immediately change policy right now . No more room to house people - start sending them back , just as they came , without separation - that will solve that problem . Open up that boarder gate - send them back into Mexico - since the Mexicans stood there and let them pass by like sheep .

Okay, I am a graduate professor and taught physical security, to whom many who work for Homeland Security. I have worked in Law Enforcement 25 years. Here is the point, physical security requires LAYERS OF DEFENSE. A defined and secure perimeter is the first layer of the defense. Depending on its design, it eliminates a high percentage of most would-be normal people. Next, you add other layers Ike cameras and drones. Next if you use technology to detect, then you need a RAPID RELIABLE RESPONSE to protect from invaders entering farther. Other layers can exist as well, such as eliminating illegal documentation access, or giving licenses to illegals, IDs, etc. as some sanctuary cities do. So, although I have a small wall and gate around my house, I lock my doors, have a dog, secure valuables, and yes, even have a weapon, there is still the potential to have my house broken into. Here is the point -- I need each layer. Each layer reduces risks of becoming a victim. Regarding costs - if you deduct ALL the COSTS RELATED otherwise illegal immigrants pouring into our nation, illegal drugs, TB (disease), criminals, welfare, cost to the Court system, etc., etc. etc. -- you will find a highly effective security system WILL PAY FOR ITSELF now and well into the future. IT IS A SMART INVESTMENT. So, the wall is just part of a security system, but a necessary component.

Yes, the wall is too expensive at first-look, however, having thousands of illegal immigrants come into our nation is too expensive. What you are looking for in security is “optimization,” where both cost and security are reached at its ideal cost compared to certain criterion - such as safety and cost. Again, a wall is only one layer of defense, like your door on your house, however, it isn’t going to stop everyone who is determined. At as you raise the difficult for people to invade a perimeter you amazingly increase deterrence. With cameras, security, vaults, etc., there are still bank robbers; however, not many because of all the deterrence. I agree more discuss is required about if a wall has to be continuous, however, I do know this, America can only assimilate so many people each year until the problems associated with excessive uncontrolled immigration will destroy the quality of life of American, which in places it already has. For example, take San Francisco, it is estimated that there is a lack of housing even for the employed, let alone the unemployed. Over 53,000 shortage. I travel to Southern CA and the problem of people living on the streets, living in public parks, defecating, drugs, violence, etc. have GONE UP. Do NOT let anyone fool us -- illegal immigration, drug abuse, lack of housing, medical problems are horrible for our nation AND FOR THE PEOPLE BREAKING INTO OUR NATION. The wall brings about some control. Encourage people to go through normal channels. AND stop those who make a profit from human trafficking. 5.7 Billion dollars is a good down payment for American security and protecting Americans and quality of life. Popularity Matters -- You are correct. There is a need for comprehensive immigration reform that makes sense while at the same time providing security and allowing immigrants into our country that can contribute and a job is waiting for them. First, agriculture should allow work visas which are nearly immediate for those who apply; this would be easy for Mexico. This would economic sense on both sides of the border. People who receive work visas and abide by them should be given an express lane in terms of legal immigration. They deserve it and have shown good faith and a willingness to work. Visas have been a problem; however, it is a problem unto itself and is different than the borders. Yet, I agree, it deserves attention. Many illegal aliens come on student visas and they NEVER show up for class! Yet, universities in the past have been uncooperative in reporting they did not show. This would be helpful. Some of the greatest threats come from those with visa overstays - at least 3 of the 9/11 terrorists were on visa overstays. When there is a visa overstay, there should be penalties for doing so. The State Department does place some requirements before granting visas, however, obviously there is lack of enforcement. I would not normally respond as much as I am regarding comments; however, you are the type of person we need as political LEADERSHIP to recognize a problem - such as illegal immigration -- take one piece of the problem at a time (which includes current policies and lack of enforcement) and then fix it. Be determined to fix it. The problem we face today has been going on for decades and has finally become a “train wreck.” The world we live in is NOT the world we lived in the past; so -- change the laws, the policies, the strategies and support necessary to resolved illegal immigration as much as possible while promoting legal immigration as much as it makes good sense for America. I am convinced it can happen. Unfortunately, I am not sure that US Congress is able to sit down in good faith and get it done. The time is NOW or many people will suffer needlessly because lack of true leadership. That is why today we see people electing - change agents outside normal political parties - hoping for authentic effective leadership that has been seriously lacking. We do NOT need people leading their political party priorities, we need leaders willing to lead for the American people priorities to protect and provide our beautiful heritage of freedom and prosperity to future generations. There are an estimated 11 to 18 million illegal immigrants in the US. A lot of them from Central America. And to claim that we don't need a wall because we already have one is just plain ignorant. We do not have a wall in all parts of the border. The border is 1,954, with about 200 miles considered nearly impassable. So that leaves 1,754. We currently have 669 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers. So we have 1, 055 miles of border that is very easy to cross. So far, everywhere walks have been used, the illegal crossings have dramatically lowered. And that is not only on our border with Mexico, but in the 77 countries around the world that have border walls, some of which we have helped to fund! But yet this reporter claims we don't need a wall because we have one, and the drug dealers can tunnel under or shoot over the wall. But digging a tunnel or trying to go over the wall with drugs is much harder than simply walking across a field with no wall. The wall is not designed to stop every illegal immigrant or ounce of drugs. It's designed to be the first of many layers to try and reduce them. This woman has not done her homework.
This video literally did not explain why the wall wouldn't work. They just explained that it would cost a lot, and that the current measures being used cost a lot and aren't working. And the walls and fences that are already up at the border are the kind you can tunnel under or climb over. The wall being proposed now is one that would be so deep and so tall that it would be impossible to get over unless you could fly.

I'm originally from Argentina but reside in the US illegally. After 35 years, I have started my immigration process. It is very hard to be undocumented with so many limits worries and shame that comes with this title. I was brought not by choice, so I completely understand both sides. I have done good things here for the community but I k own if I really want to be of service and truly make a good change, I must face this and possible be deported bit all worth it to be normal

As noted by someone who doesnt live on the border. The wall is meant as a layer of security, not the sole security mechanism. Wall, border patrol, video surveillance, etc all contribute to border security. The illegals problems are not made by the United States, but by the illegals themselves. You can apply for asylum, or legal immigration from the consulates/embassies in their home countries. Thats how its supposed to work. As it is now, asylum seekers/illegals get their court dates for processing and less than 10 percent show up to those court dates. So, their intent was to subvert American law. Saying they are not criminals, is not being true to what is happening. Illegal immigrant, in the name itself, says they have broken the law. From the time they set foot on US soil. Like I said, there are legal ways to go about this, and they dont go that route. The legal way is much more safe, and orderly for all. Because they continue illegally entering, the illegals themselves contributed to this disaster. There are no one to blame but the illegals. Personally, they should be returned to the countries form which they came, and not allowed legal status ever. Everyone has their own opinions on what we are supposed to do with all this. And most of those opinions come from other countries. Countries who enforce their own borders. And for the most part do not have to go thru what the United States does. Because people dont want to go to their countries as much as they want to go to the United States. Its a fact.

You can't tunnel under a canal, since you'll either drown or get "the Bends." Eddies (whirlpools) cause by flowing water and ships can drown people. Barbed wire at the shoreline would be an addition. A wall, nay, a fortress with guards patrolling _on top_ dotting the border would add another layer.
