I lived in Hereford, Arizona some 30 or so years ago and a border wall was desperately needed then. I saw so much trouble and danger at that time that I moved back to Utah. The wife and our children were afraid to go camping anywhere near the border, because it was so dangerous. We need a 40 foot wall and a 25 foot deep foundation made of Carborundum and 4/5 feet thick.

Some of the Ranches along the Border are in Two Countries. Also, in Texas the same thing. The Ranchers in Utah were refused permits for the cattle to graze on Federal Land. One of the Sheriff's stated that if he had to that he would swear in every man, woman and child if he had to!

His increase in CBP has taken officers from USCIS which has backlogged getting a Green Card an additional 12-24 months on top of the 10-12 month wait that already existed. Making legal immigration harder and take longer is not the solution to stem undocumented immigrants.

People cannot enter other countries illegally. If laws aren't enforced, why do we even have them? I feel for these ranchers. The only thing the government can do is immediate deportation....send a very clear message that this is not acceptable. We also need many more border control officials.
I'm sure I am on dangerous ground here after looking at all the other posts from liberals and conservatives calling each other names. I also feel for the ranchers. It's easy to brush off the need for border security when it's not your land that illegals are driving across to bring their drugs into the U.S. But the real question is will a wall work? After you remove the name calling and the arguments for or against Trump, the question still remains, will a wall or a barrier work? It has been said that some American landowners will have their property taken from them by eminent domain in order to build the wall. If this is true and the wall still doesn't work then it seems like a bad plan.
I am sure Trump has looked at it very carefully and with experts advising him. He talked about the crime and human suffering at the border years before he was president

Yes, the majority of illegal migration is overstayed visas, but, you must consider the fact that the US gov tracks all the people who enter the country legally (including overstayed visas) therefore the government wouldn't allow dangerous gang members to enter. The number of actual physical crossing by foot is still high, 30-40% and that is where the dangerous people cross because there is no government screening to check past criminal records.

I live in nyc and I use south American labour for my home construction .most of them stand infront bbn ot home l depo looking some one will hire them for the day.beluve me they are not cheap.i used them $150. Dollar for 8 hours, they do not carry any tools with no English. I speak little Spanish.
$130 to $150 for 8 hour work in nyc is lot of money for them and also lot of money for myself. Latino labour job no longer cheap labour. It is becoming costly specially New York. Most bbn ot them share apt among 3to4 people and pay $250 to $300 month rent and food $100 per month .rest of the money is sent to back home to support familly.
Some day people will choose local labour over migrants labour because of labour cost..

Kinda hard to hide a 30 foot ladder in your car. Also hard to carry a 30 foot ladder to get to the wall. It's kind of a dead giveaway what your intentions are when you are walking around near the border with a 30 foot ladder under your arm. Ropes don't work unless you have a way to secure the other end of it. How will you do that? Try throwing a rope over a 30 foot wall. It's not as easy as you think it is.

A wall is never going to be more than part of an effective solution, but it is a critical foundational part of addressing the problem. The wall itself must be difficult and time consuming to penetrate. The physical impediment that the wall imposes to illegal entry is very important. If it takes hours to dig under or requires large specialized equipment to get people over it, then security monitoring can detect the activity and immediately dispatch border patrol to stop the incursion.
It's no different than any kind of barriers that we build in our societies where there is a need to protect something. I multilayered approach always works best.
If there is no effective physical barrier, security technology alone is ineffective. You've detected an illegal entry, but without measures to impede it until it can be stopped, you achieve nothing.

The reason the numbers are down is that Mexico has a good economy and Mexicans don't want to cross. Now it is primarily the Guatemalans and other Central Americans trying to illegally get to the US. Mexico has also improved her own illegal immigration control.
