Hi guys I have I have a 4.7HO in the UK. Genuine Mopar NV247 fluid is not readily available at our dealerships anymore as they are reluctant to buy it in, in bulk because of lack of demand or so dealership told me. I can get it off eBay costing £55 for x2 bottles but I have recently discovered Crown Automotive do a version TCL-1 and I can get that for £25for x2 bottles over here. Anyone have any experience with the Crown fluid? I only ask because the previous owner has had the fluid changed at an independent Jeep service garage (he is ex main Jeep dealer mechanic) and has refilled with a type of universal tractor oil and I have a front axle hop when turning on full lock on loose surfaces but not so much on tarmac, so I want to swap it out ASAP to avoid damaging my transfer case as the hopping is a possible symptom of incorrect fluid. Found out today that for the UK at least, Petronas took over production and supply of the Mopar NV 247 transfer case fluid (Petronas Tutela powergear4 SAE 80w) as Fiat stop importing the Mopar variant when they took over Chrysler. Anyone know if it’s the same formulation or had any experience with this product? Finally a Jeep parts specialist in the UK has advised me that 1/2 quart of friction modifier should be added to the transfer case fluid when refilling, is this correct? Not heard anyone else mention this on the web. Any advice appreciated.
Hey there! Transfer oil is what u mentioned, I've a 2001 wj 4.7 . I only drive her 4000 miles a year max. No problems with the transfer box! Like you I need diff oil! All leads go to .....must use mopar😅
If you were to take a Dremel with a cutoff wheel in it cut a slot into the plug then get a flat piece of bar metal that will fit in the slot basically making yourself huge regular screwdriver. Then apply some heat around the plug directly to the case I think you could get it to break free.

I have a 2000 grand Cherokee with the 4.7 and I had the same issue, replaced my O2 sensor and it didn't fix it, had to get a new PCM and that fixed the stalling issue
Hello Martin, i have a 2000, 4.0 quadra drive but the book say dexron 3.....but your recomend the fluid in the video right?
The owners manual for the 2000 Grand Cherokee has an error on the subject that was corrected on later issues. The NV242 t/c (Slect-Trac) does however use ATF. The Quadra Drive does require the fluid I recommend.
Hey Martin, i have a problem with my transmission not shifting after 3k RPMs, I’m replacing the output and input sensors and the accumulator spring, do you know where I can find the parts? Thank you!.

Is it for the 247 transfer case ? The same as you do
@@fernandozizumbo3997 I don't understand. This is the 247 Transfer case. The links are for the transmission. The transfer case is mechanical with no sensors.

Thanks for the great video!

I have a 242 transfer case in my 2000 4×4 Jeep Grand Cherokee. What should I use?
Mopar ATF+4 or equivalent.
@@martinbuilt Is it okay to use the synthetic transmission fluid for the transfer case and transmission?

@@johnwigren2497 yes all ATF+4 is Synthetic, 1.5 quarts

What type of transmisión fluid do you use for a 2003 WJ Quadra-Drive (247 J)
this is what I used.
Castrol 6810 Transmax ATF +4 amzn.to/2ZxvlN9
I’m replacing my broken tcase with a 247 j and my owners manual said to use ATF+4, do I use the fluid you’re using instead?
Also if the fluid they used in this one was the atf+4 is it safe to use the fluid your using if there’s residue of atf+4 in the tcase?
@@taylorricaporte2646 if it is actually a 247 transfer case I would recommend the fluid that I suggested in the video because of the coupler inside that transfer case requires special friction modifiers similar to a posi unit found in a differential. Yes I think it's perfectly safe once the transfer case has been drained of the ATF + 4. Just curious what year Jeep do you have?
martinbuilt mine is a 2002 four all time, but the new tcase I got from a friend might have a different year however it is the same body
I'm getting that vibration on my 06 4.7 commander

My 4x4 low jumps out of gear as soon as i accelerate and you can hear gears grinding . I think my tranfer case is busted. Any ideas what can cause this? And how to fix it?
Sounds like you got some real serious internal problems there. At the very least sounds like the shift fork needs to be replaced..I think it's time to either replace the T case or have ia shop service it.
@@martinbuilt great thnx for the reply. I did manage to track down a working second hand one .
@@woweeeeeeeee Awesome, that would be the easiest fix, remove and replace.
@@martinbuilt just some feed back on my transfer case. The old chain was stretched and jumping on the gears. We replaced the chain with new and now it is working fine.

what type of transfer case fluid do you use a 2002 jeep grand cheroke 2.7crd quadra drive P/N p52099360ac
Being that it is a quadru drive I would use the same fluid I used in the video.
martinbuilt Since there is no Mopar where I come from what can I use that would be compatible ?
martin got new wheels and tires!
Yes I did! and I lowered 1 inch.
martinbuilt could you share the specs on this wheel/tire combo? Id like to do something similar after seeing yours. Love the videos!
Does it have the friction additive? Like the diffs!
The Mopar fluid must have some kind of additive.
@@martinbuilt is that, I guess it has an additive? Or, it does have an additive! I'm in the UK, and the oil jeep tell me to use is different from US! Trouble is, there are different 4x4 systems and different transfer box across the range! If u know, it's a wj 4.7 2001! Plus jeep in the UK are telling my mechanic he would have to order a crate of the oil, from America! I'm sure fiat in Italy would have some!?
@@terrystratford1235 If you have an NV245, NV247, or NV249 Transfer Case I would use the fluid I have recommended. Yes, there got to be some kind of additive in this fluid. Unless there are other transfer cases manufacturers that have a VISCOUS PROGRESSIVE COUPLING you be able to substitute this fluid.
@@martinbuilt chers Martin! I'll check the number on the box and go from there! My mechanic has spoken to jeep and they say it doesn't need the friction additive like the one for the diffs. They used my reg for reference.! 3years ago i bought all the oils from jeep and they said it did need the friction additive! I love my jeep, but know nothing about how it works! What would happen after 10000miles fairly sedate driving with the friction additive in a box that it shouldn't go in?
@@martinbuilt jeep just past mot! Yeh it's a nv247 box. In the UK jeep don't stock for the wj! To order direct from America, min order ......a crate! So I will have to find an alternative oil!
Hey Martin I have the nv247 case in my 03 overland do I need to use the limited slip additive in the case?
iphone3gsdivine
I would just use the fluid that I listed in the video..
martinbuilt ok thanks
Mopar friction modifier is only used in the vari-lok differential cases of the WJ Quadradrive.
Could the wrong fluid cause the transfer case not to work?
It is possible there is a clutch pack in the transfer case and this is why it needs a special fluid operates similar to a posi rear end.
@@martinbuilt thank you very much for the response. I have a 2004 grand Cherokee I would like to hold on to. Had a new front end put on last year . 4wd not working though.

Can I use lucia
I personally would not take a chance with lucas.
I have a np247 instead of nv247. Do I need to put mopar fluid or the ATF4 would do?
I recommend the fluid that I showed him the video to be used. It is better than ATF 4
martinbuilt thank you for the answer
Does it really say NP247 on the tag? Anyway NV247 is the same, and you need to use the Mopar fluid for NV247.
Is this the same for 2000 Dodge Durango
Yes it is.
Hey Martin on my 2000 Durango how do I know when to change the time in belt time in chain car hit 186,000 miles on it I bought it used two months ago do I have to do the whole time in chain into the head to everything at once
I use lucas trans. Fix fluid
What size are these wheels and tyres bro?
Jerem Plstro please check out the description. Thank you
you left that comment about atf4 hard to find at the end
WOW SUPER 👍 la seguo..sempre..sono iscritto.. thank You 😊 w GRAND Cherokee 👍
im screwed because the previous owner tried to take the 10m allen screw fill out and rounded it
If you were to take a Dremel with a cutoff wheel in it cut a slot into the plug then get a flat piece of bar metal that will fit in the slot basically making yourself huge regular screwdriver. Then apply some heat around the plug directly to the case I think you could get it to break free.
@@martinbuilt i will give it a try .bcuz my front tires dont spin. but 4lo works and i think im low on fluid
I wish there were some fluid info on older vehicles that didnt include B.S. brand name sponsership..!!!!!
The particular transfer case that I have shown in this video requires this fluid and there are no substitutes.
Check your owner's manual for your year vehicle for the proper fluid.
The procedure to change the fluid is generally the same as shown in the video.
And no one sponsored this video.
Thank you for watching.
The tech told me two days ago that I don't HAVE to use the Mopar fluid, just any equivalent. Anyone else been told that?
OK, then, what's the equivalent?
@@martinbuilt He didn't specify, but acted like I was a dumba55 for even asking the question. I will call another Jeep place to hear what others recommend and will let you know. I have no reason not to buy the Mopar juice, but if there is an equivalent that is cheaper I might consider it.
