When I did my diffs, I cracked the fill nuts first. Was worried about not being able to refill when installed back on. Also my rear diff, I found it easy to reach upper bolts by raising my Jeep from the hitch. It raised the back of the Jeep allowing easy reach to bolts without wheels leaving the ground. Nice vid.
It's funny I was critiquing the guy before me and I put less than him but it's still too much haha. It seals and I have no problems doing it that way but I agree the absolute minimum is best
I put a thin layer of gasket maker and loosely fitted the cover overnight without oil. Only then did I torque the bolts. Your gasket is too much, you will only know at your next service.
The “film” of oil you are leaving on is actually doing more damage because it has dirt and metals shavings that do damage to your gears and internals… DEFINITELY spray TF out the differential gears
@rodom303 I agree in most cases if you have an older diff with a lot of miles but there are plenty of people that argue the opposite saying if you spray it too much you'll risk damage when you first start driving again and now there isn't oil where it needs to be similar to the logic of soaking lifters. In a perfect world maybe you'd spray then oil it. In my case it was a new to me vehicle that I didn't trust it had been done before but when I opened it it was all extremely fresh and recent so no risk of debris in there though I checked. I'd say it's a judgment call. But appreciate you adding this so people can decide and Thanks for watching.
You remind me to do this maintenance practice on my
01 WJ 4.0 L .
I did the rear .
But I been put on the side the front one .

Good video but there's absolutely no need to put that much RTV on the differential cover. More is not always better.

The old oil is new. However it looks too thin. Mine was black with no metal shavings.
