For me this is the very definition of perfect sunday evening viewing It's warming, informative and always enjoyable.
and a nice soundtrack.
Juggling multiple projects is a real man's problem. You're managing it brilliantly and entertaining us all along the way. Marvelous work Dom. 😊😊
This should be on tv
I’m in awe of your grit and determination. Keep it up Dom. we’re with you all the way. I’m sure when you look back in six months time you’ll be extremely proud of the progress made.
I appreciate that!
I'd rather have short episodes than have to wait for long ones. I understand that you can't just put everything else on hold. It's a great deal of work. I'm enjoying it.
Thank you! I’ll try keep updates on the Porsche for as long as I can!
@@DominicChineas Hi Dom, I have seen other RUclipsrs collate all of their episodes / videos on a particular subject so that if someone is playing catch-up they can watch one video of the whole project in a one-er.
I'm in. Gonna enjoy this one. Well worth it. Thanks 👍
Yes
Back on the Porsche!!!
Can’t wait to see you drive it Dom!!
Your shock support and patch work looks very good...Bit by Bit...Piece by Piece...You will get it done
Great and very accurate work Dom! It’s great how you explain how the sheet metal was cobbled together at the Porsche factory back in the 50’s. Enjoying you channel from Germany where I‘m doing the same with old Volkswagen and Mercedes! Good luck and plenty of motivation to go on. Cheers, mate,
Thanks 👍
Nice work Dom. Fair play, that's a serious project, very brave taking that on! One complaint..your videos are too short, could happily watch an hour of this.
I wish I had more progress to show! I’ll try get more time next week
Not too much longer!
Remember the mind can odsorbe only as long as the rear can endure!!!
😊
No need to explain how complex a self-funded project like this is! Great work and very interesting to see how you tackle problems which inevitably, in our experience, always pop up. You meet them with panache, and chocolate muffins. Thank you for sharing this!
Jonm - there's a Playback Speed control in the RUclips settings, so you can make the video last 2 or 4 times longer if you wish (0.5, 0.25 playback speed), or alternatively we can optionally watch Dom weld twice as fast! 😁
Doing great Dom just waiting for some one to bring a Porsche to your day job lol
If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing it right. You’re doing it right. Well done. In addition to the other factors you mentioned, the process of filming and editing adds to the amount of time involved. Keep up the great work Dom!
Nice work Dom! Keep it going!
Great to see the Porsche back
Good to see the 356 again, they take alot of time to do properly, their a monocque chassy so many panels supporting each other. Do it properly once, they had so much internal cavities in bare steel which didnt help curb demon rust.
Great to see the Porsche again Dom although looking forward to see the development of the mini Ranalah.
Happy New Year Dom. Great to see you working on the 356. Would love to do this some day.
Yasss here we go back to it did enjoy the bike though
So, like Michelangelo, you just keep chipping away at it until a 356 pops out!
Ashley Harding sounds allot like Phil Collins to me. Glad you’re back on the 365.
Dom, hats off to you for bringing us along on such a journey. You’re doing it the right way and making few compromises. We appreciate the hard work and effort of putting this car and film together. The story is as fun as the car is beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Great to see the Porche being worked on. Nice workmanship replacing the rusty bits!
Thanks Dom. Hey, I don't think anyone realises how much work goes in to a "project car", until they do it themselves. Probably too many "reality Garage shows", producing show cars in under an hour. Enjoying the privilege, of coming along for the ride. Cheers
I'm in awe that you can face a job of that magnitude and complexity without a large, specialized restoration shop and a team of highly experienced Porsche guys, and perhaps gals. The fact that I'd say you're doing it properly makes it doubly impressive. I imagine it won't get a hundred points at the top shows due to not being in every minor detail identical to a new car but it will certainly be close enough for most perfectionists.
Dom; Great video! Enjoy seeing your fine work and, hearing your explanations on your approach to the work at hand.
Nice work Dom, have a great day !!!.😀😀😀😀!!!.
Hi Dom, you are so lucky to have this fantastic project to work on . . really looking forward to seeing it finished.
You and me both!
Yea! Back on the 356. This is what I subscribed for. The other content was interesting but this is what I'm anxious to watch. Good job on this vid!
Nice Nick Lowe track.
Brilliant! Back with the Porsche. Love it. Quick tip; when talking to camera, stop waving your right hand around furiously, you're meant to be resting it.
This is great advice haha
It’s good that you explained why this project is one that takes time as it’s my favourite but now appreciate money, time and experience all play a major part in progress. However, I can’t wait to see you drive it.
Beautiful work!
Thank you! Cheers!
I just love these Porsche videos! Please give me more!
More next week!!
Yeah! Really enjoying this. Although i don’t have my own space (and probably never will be able to afford) it gives me the ability to dream what it is like to work on your project like this. I have two rustbuckets (Volvo 66 and a VW LT)
Awesome Dom. I have a crazy idea. How bout after your done with the welding you just clear coat everything so you can see all the metal work you have done. You can always paint it later, but it would be cool if you drove it around with all the weld marks and panels. It will look like a Frankenstein Porsche. Although might be kinda hard cuz you have already painted over some of your work. You could also draw lines along all the panels you have welded in and air brush in weld marks so it looks like a Frankenstein. I’ve seen other builds that look like this. I’m sure there is one on RUclips somewhere. I think jesse James might have did one for drag race big he built that he pulled out of a swamp. Probably called it swamp thing if I remember correctly.
Dom, get down to your local bakers and buy four doughnuts in one of those white cake boxes. Eat one doughnut every couple of hours and use the box to provide the thin but stiff card you need for templates. It’s perfect for the job, much more accurate and easier than paper. Cheers, Will
This is a fantastic idea
don't apologize for the time it takes, anyone who's done a restoration, especially a rusty one, knows what a time vampire these projects can be. Doing it properly, not quickly, is what's key to how the finished product will look
Love the variety, but also love the Porsche
Absolutely great to see you back working on the Porsche. I have started the restoration of an abandoned Saab 96 project. An easier car to work on than the 356. But I fully understand what you're saying about 'time-consuming' when it comes to tackling sorts of jobs carefully. I am retired and have plenty of time every day. But still, even the smallest jobs can take hours. (I think that my welding skills are 'stone aged' when I compare them with yours, btw).
I fully understand the time it takes, Dom. I'm 3 years and counting into recommissioning my '67 bus that came over from a Colorado junkyard.
Fantastic workmanship and entertainment Dom keep it up👍
Great job Dom!
I have misgivings about the Zinc loaded primer though. We've had experience where moisture works through the top coat paints d the Zinc forms and oxide with the result that the to coat flakes off. This is probably down to us not understanding the various paints that we've used and the possible interactions but it's worth researching a bit. (Our vehicle was a 1942 GMC DUKW and it was sand blasted back to bare metal, phosphate washed and then primed with a twin pack epoxy high Zinc primer before being to coated with a single pack epoxy. It's done little more than sit in a shed since the poisoning was done and it's not been exposed to road salt or sea water)
Solid progress made Dom. Lovely
Looks very good Dom. Well done. So pleased that you're back on the Porsche.
You and me both!
Well done Dom, you're making a lovely job of it.
One of the things I didn't appreciate before starting my own project was how hard it is to get time on it. Enjoy the journey, it'll be a lovely thing when it'd done.
Phew thanks I really missed watching this restoration 👍
More to come!
@@DominicChineasI'm glad I chose a jaguar to rescue rather than a Porsche 🤞
This is truly taking HAND BUILT to the NEXT LEVEL. I had a 356 convertible D that died due to EXTENSIVE rust beyond my repair capabilities. If i had your skill set and a bit of space back in the day i could have saved it.
A great video and really good to see car restoration done properly. From your comments I think the enormity of this build is now hitting home. Mamy years ago my brother bought what looked like a nice Classic Capri but in the first 6 months it rusted all over the place. When we dug into it the bodywork was the biggest bodge known to man. It took us 18 months of continuous evenings and week end work to sort it. I thought it would never end but you have the mechanics, electrics and interior to do. Its going to be at least a couple of years hard work. With your other projects it could be a lot more.
Support… great project, restored nicely…
Excellent to see you back on the Porsche. Problem is watching you makes me want/ need a TIG welder!😂
Very neat Dominic, bravo.
I take comfort from your explanation of how much though and time goes into this when it is not your main Job. I am always questioning myself why I take so long with welding my projects up. Great video and thank you for sharing.
Wow I can only dream about having something like that Wurth shop here in the U.S.
Brilliant Dom 👌Your videos keep me inspired to continue my own projects. Thanks for doing these inspirational shows🙏
Great video, super video skill and back track. thanks.
Nice
Good to see the Porker being worked on again but boy, it's got more holes than a tea strainer !! I know it will be better engineered than it was originally after seeing your previous work, the question is how long will it take? If it wasn't such a good project for RUclips would you have taken it on?
Always worth a watch Dom. 👍
It's a marathon, not a sprint.
Don't listen to this section of YT, you're doing fine 👍
Nice work
Love your videos Dom. You’ve achieved a nice balance in terms of variety, interest and length. I well appreciate how much time gets consumed in contemplating a problem and figuring out how to tackle it. Sometimes the “thinking part” is several multiples of the time to execute the work. ❤❤😊😊
Well done dom!!! Stay at it and you won’t have to remember where u are!!!😂 all the best mate!!!
A true craftsman. You make things from nothing. So fun to watch. Very humble too. Another great video.
Looking good little by little you’re getting there it takes time. 😊
Fabuolos work Dom! Over here we get it on a Monday, but it is no less enjoyable for that! Keep 'em coming!
Awesome as always Dom, so nice to see the 356 again 🙌
More to come!
perfect done......i love it.....can t wait for the next pennel......
Nice work Dom ❤
I’m a van driver you have used before and I love this Porsche project.
Some lovely work there, piece by piece that car is getting better and getting closer to its original form. I greatly enjoy these videos and the explanations of what is going on and why. This type of deep rebuild hobby project obviously takes lots of time. Project Binky started ten years ago now. I suspect the first test drive of the 356 will be in less time than that. Even if not, the pleasure of being absorbed in the work must still be there.
I don't envy you. I restored a 70 E-Type OTS back in the late 1990's and it took me nearly 5 years of weekends. It wasn't a rust bucket so other than the bonnet, I didn't have to replace too many panels. A lot of wrenching and coating and making things safe again though.
Keep Going Dom its a lot of work but looks amazing
Dom, this reality on the Porsche, money and timewise and you learning on the fly is actually what it makes so super interesting! The harsh reality but gives also hope that one day we can do the same..
Looking good
Nice to see a you-tuber actually explain how long everything takes
Good stuff Dom, keep it up ace, great viewing 👍
Happy New Year Dom, great to see you back on the Porsche. 👍
Me too. Having restored a number of old Peugeot's, I look on these videos as something to watch instead of faffing in the garage while `er indoors` is watching American Football..!
Great ,well done Dom!
Thank you! Cheers!
Cracking job Dom keep up the great work.
Thanks 👍
Excellent work dom I guess most people will not understand the amount of time it can take to make a replacement body part for a car or any other machine from scratch with limited space and tooling not to mention money for metal. At least you are learning new skills and knowledge. Keep up the good work looking forward to seeing the next installment.
Thanks Dom excellent work on a great project and happy new Year. Cheers
Hello Dom . It's good to see my old spot welder performing well . When single side spotwelding leave the galvanising primer off . It makes for a much stronger weld. And when you make templates use thin card , you get a much better result. Hope your wrist gets better soon . Cheers.
Steady as she goes Dom your vids are always watchable anyone can see how hard this is ... take it easy on the wrist
Beautiful work Dom. These little cars are deceptively complex to work on and it often takes longer than you think to make progress. It'll be better than factory by the time you're done!
Thanks so much, I can’t wait to drive it!
Nice work, Dom. That's a great looking repair. I find that if I break the jobs down into small enough sections and I then apply all my thought and effort to it it gets done. This is an example of that. It ended too quickly though! Make sure you get your injury better! Don't overdo it! All the best, Mart in Solihull.
Man this is looking so much better already ❤
Love the work you are doing on your channel.
I found this series at the right time clearly, caught up on the earlier episodes this week and got lucky you’re at the point of working on it again! I have Triumphs (of the car kind), and yeah the money and time costs are kinda high… Even worse when trying to film at the same time. The body construction you’re working with here is much more complex than I’m used to too!
Any progress is enjoyable to watch ...
Those "pushing" for more have never even held a Dolly, let alone tackled a minor restorarion. This project is probably beyond "most" ... both in the amount of work needed when seeingnhow much of this car will ultbe replaced, and the cost! Its one thing to fix up a 20 yr old car with Chineseum panels available for $75 ... something else entirely to restore an old Porsche.
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Missed the Porsche, but loved the Triumph,
. Now glad your back on the 356.😊
Your skills are getting better! By the end of the project, you'll be a top notch fabricator!👏👏👏
Good to see you cracking on with the 356...spurs me on for getting on with the car in my man cave.....
Of course great to see the Porsche works back but fully understand all the issues (money and time) that slow down the work. Best bit though is learning about these and the other challenges with you as this project progresses. Agree that Wurth is a great place to visit for all those bits you may need. Quick tip, worth watching Edd China piece on RUclips about a really innovative rust treatment - Evapo-Rust (I have nothing to do with the company). Looking forward to more Porsche and Ranalah plus, maybe, the bike.
FYI Bilt Hamber De-ox C is just as good as Evaporust if not better (there is at least one YT comparison test where it comes out better), is a British product, and is a fair bit cheaper. They also do it in gel form which is ideal for areas that cannot be immersed. Incidentally, I'm assuming the Edd China escapade was sponsored, because he used 2000 litres of the stuff, and the cheapest you can get it in the UK is £6 per litre!
I agree, I don’t have the 15k required to submerge the Porsche! I’ll look into that brand though thank you
@@DominicChineas No problem Dom. Another good channel, Ben's Classic Bodywork, he swears by the Bilt Hamber products as well.
It’s not a trade it’s an art to do work like that!
Hi Dom , Happy New Year to you, It's coming along nicely looking very good 👍, take your time and it will all right , All the best Brian 😂
Happy new year!
Dooooooommmmmmm, Niiiiiiicccccccceeeeeeeeee
Happy New Year, Dom. Thanks for all the great content!
Good to see you at Scramblers this morning. Hope you had a good day.
You too! It was a cold morning but great as ever
Nice.
Cool stuff 👍
Great job, Dom. Happy New Year! 🚗
So glad the Porsche is back 😀😀
YEEEEESSSS!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 SO happy to see the Porsche back on the channel!! This was what originally drew me in to watching you Dom. Have a great 2024! I’ll be glued to the channel 😊
