    I had bought this exact loom for my mom for Xmas 2020. She was suffering from cirrhosis nonalcoholic and non heptatic. She was drained the sun before Xmas was given the covid 19 shot the 23rd and it was like someone had flipped a switch with her and she passed away new years eve. Never once got to use it. I made a goal to make some type of blanket with it and found this video. I am making an awesome blanket everytime I feel sad. I can't wait to finish it... thank you... this has been a life saver

    So glad you made this video. It really helps me understand the free pattern from KB's website better. I just got my Lion Brand Homespun yarn order 2 days ago (colour #336, Barrington...Lion Brand had a five for $10 yarn sale and even with shipping and exchange, I saved $ importing to Canada), my KB 28" loom arrived yesterday, and I started making this as soon as I got the loom set up...I was just itching to get started! I've already got more than 12" done...it goes fast once you get the hang of it! I love the look of this afghan and the Lion Brand Homespun yarn comes in so many pretty colours to make it in!

    I'm glad I saw this video because I think it is solving a problem I am having with the 28-inch KB loom. I started a shawl with Bernat Velvet yarn, but twice now (and only halfway through the shawl) I have had to release the loops on one rake and release the tension on the middle of the rakes because the yarn was pulling the two rakes so close that I could no longer get my finger or the hook between the two rakes. I suspected the problem was that I chose to use the smallest dividers on the ends. I tried REALLY hard to keep the weave around the pegs very loose, but it didn't help. Eventually the knitting became too tight and pulled the rakes together. After seeing this video, I believe using that smallest edge on the dividers was a big mistake. I should use the widest side just as you have. If you have any other correction I could make, I would appreciate hearing it!!! Love your videos!! I have stopped working on this shawl because I got too discouraged. Removing all the loops this last time has created a big mess and I can't find my way back to a level row.

      @jeanjaz 5 лет назад

      @@GoodKnitKisses I wanted to know the answer to that question also. You didn't answer the question. :(
      How does the blanket end up being nearly twice the width of the loom? Is it because it is a small gauge loom and a stretchy stitch? Is it because of the stitch itself - it widens out after being removed from the loom?

    • @ramygeo4624
      @ramygeo4624 5 лет назад +1

      @@ramygeo4624 oh wow! Thanks! I'm still new to loom knitting and I've only done one pattern - a winter scarf - in double knit in a really soft baby yarn or sport weight yarn. Just plain knitting, no fancy set up or anything. :). I had to switch from crocheting because of my hands - couldn't hold my tension anymore. I'm simply amazed at what you can make on a loom (I have about 10 looms now, diff sizes, shapes, and gauges.) I've done regular knitting (not double knitting) baby booties, hats, scarves, and I'm working on a baby blanket with a border right now. Hi, I've had my eye on this project for a long time! I'm kind of new at loom knitting, I've started projects and they just never looked right. I have now learned that it was the videos I've tried to follow. So anyways I know this is an old video. I'm doing this project right now, I'm using homespun in gothic (my friends favorite color is purple) I'm making her a wheelchair blanket, she has an amputated leg. So I'm going to make the fringe shorter so it won't get stuck in the wheels, but instead of doing the top and bottom, I was going to do the bottom and sides with some fringe. My question is... do I still do the same bind off if I'm not putting fringe there? I hope you see my question. I love your videos btw and I think your a great teacher!!

    What is the reason behind working a row or side from the outside to the middle and then starting on the opposite side working towards the middle again to complete that row instead of completing it from left all the way through to the right (or the opposite, from right to left all the way through)?

      @GoodKnitKisses thank you for your quock reply! I loomed as a child, double knit stockinette only and didn't have a problem just working from 1 side to the other, then turning and completing the 2nd side in the same way; now, my strip comes out curved (the turning end during wrapping seens to be longer)? I have seen in other tutorials they secure the last wrapped stich by knitting it first stitch, then go to the opposite row (rake), knitting it from 1 side to the other and then completing the remaining rake, it seems to help but my last swatch is uneven in 1 corner. Any other advice on tention and even measuring fabric as result? I am trying to watch many different videos to see what is the correct way, also on cast on and off. I did order you book (very exited about it!) but will only deliver in a few days.

    • @kasmj11
      @kasmj11 4 года назад +2

      The one I am making seems like it will be a few inches longer on each side. So if your loom is 28 inches, it will probably end up being about 34 inches wide (give or take cause I'm not quite half way done. I wasn't sure if I was going to just give it to my son when I get done or make another one and knit them together to make a bigger blanket. Hope this helps some. Good luck!

      Annette R oh! I wanted to add that the fringe should help too. But for regular stockinette, that is worked on one side back and forth, it's nature is to curl. I have a helpful article on curling on goodknitkisses.com for a longer discussion to troubleshoot and solve that issue.

    How does a 28 inch loom produce a 40 something wide blanket? Sorry if that’s a silly question. I’ve never used a loom before and will be attempting this blanket on a 24 inch loom for a toddlers blanket.

    • @GoodKnitKisses
      @GoodKnitKisses  4 года назад +1

      It’s due to the weight (the gauge size) of the yarn, the stitch type, and how far it’s set from both boards (the spacing 1cm, 2cm, 3cm). So depending on those variants it can change how large or small, stretchy or stuff, and width of the panel you get. It’s always recommended to test a small swatch to see how it behaves in different yarns, stitches and settings on the loom for projects You can measure your stitches in the swatch and figure out how many stitches to cast on for larger panels by some basic math. I do have some calculators on my website that can help. They mostly apply to flat panels but you can apply them to double knitting.

    If I make a shawl with this, thus narrower, can I sew a couple of buttons on one end and button thru the knitting or do I have to make a buttonhole? THanks in advance!

    • @GoodKnitKisses
      @GoodKnitKisses  8 лет назад

      momisapilot yes you can make it narrow for a scarf. The buttonhole really depends on the button you get. If you want to use an existing button in your stash I'd work up your scarf for about 12" and then check it going through. You'll know then what size to buy to use something available or could make a buttonhole if needed.

      you would have to sew panels together to get 120" wide. but you could make it as long as you want, simply by using more yarn.

    So I am new to using a loom and I love this pattern but already have several skeins of yarn that I would like to use but of smaller weight (4). Would I still keep the spacing at 3cm or make the spacing smaller?

    • @GoodKnitKisses
      @GoodKnitKisses  3 года назад +1

      I would make it 1 or 2 cm. I suggest testing a swatch with 1cm with 12-20 pairs of pegs and knit about 4-6 inches first. That will likely work the best. If you feel like the fabric is too dense or still then go up to the 2cm. I haven’t worked that one in a while so I’d have to test but the 2cm might be too loose but depends on the yarn.

    I'm working on this project now and I've noticed the loom is starting to "bow" in the middle. I feel like I have had consistent tension (maybe too tight?) And I'm alternating my knitting over just like you showed in your video. I'm about 4in into the blanket. Should I unravel and start over? I'm worried about doing this with the fluffiness of the yarn. Or can I relax my tension and have it even out?

    I have used the regular rectangular loom for figure 8 stitch do I cast on and off the same way A rectangular are not round looms or am I missing something. This loom is very $$$ but I think I will like it. What are the dimensions of a baby blanket up to 6 months If I have this will I need to buy round looms like from 24 peg to 42 peg.

      Jamie Wegforth this is only typical of double knitting. Otherwise the cast on edge is too loose

    • @GoodKnitKisses
      @GoodKnitKisses  3 года назад

      @@lessons9745 that’s a great question. It’s actually due to the 3cm spacer setting and then paired with the stitch used, which is stretchy width wise, it makes for a nice fabric that is indeed wider than the board used to knit it on. Not all stitches will behave like this of course.

    Hey there! First off, I just want to say thank you for your videos! I'm new to knitting and I just bought the Kb 28in loom and at first I was going to extend it all the way out and make a flat panel blanket, but that was a little intimidating for my first loom project so I'm trying the one in your video now. I'm a few rows in and I'm enjoying it, but I was just wondering 2 things. How long did it take you to make this blanket? And the other question is, I seen a picture of one you were doing using almost all of the pegs, how long would it take to make a flat panel blanket using all of the pegs? Cause to me when I started trying that it just seemed to take forever. Thanks for all of your help!

I'm about 1 third of the way of being finished and I noticed that my stitches dont match, and by that I mean one the sides of the blanket my stitches are a lot looser and in the middle and perfect stitches. Nice and tight. How do I fix it so my stitches aren't loose and the edges? I know this is an old post so I hope I get a reply. Thank you so much!!
