Hey mayo, whats your thought on "Terraria"? A sidescroller sandbox game with a great progression system thats really connected with the gameplay which feel super "rewarding" to play (and sometimes make you want to experimentize a new way to approach the challange that provide by the game, due to its variety of item and modifier)
This game came out during a very tough time of my life. My at that time girlfriend left me and I felt destroyed. Funny enough, while you're collecting and solving puzzles the entire time in your unbelievable journey through the game, your real objective is to find your princess. I remember feeling so moved and motivated because I had just lost mine forever and sometimes the music and floating text between levels had me in tears. I completed Braid only once but I'll never forget its uniqueness and it will have a special place in my heart until it beats. A true Masterpiece.
I had a similar experience my first playthrough back when the game came out. This amazing puzzle game will always have a special place in my once broken heart.
@@sarahfatima2872 in my experience it's best not to acknowledge the dribblings of a SIMPle mind. It's a waste of time and energy. He/she may grow up one day and experience the intricacies of human emotions.
Plot twist. It turned out the princess wasn't kidnapped or in need of rescue. She left voluntarily and was running away from you the whole game. My first wife left me right around the time this game came out, too, and the game had a huge impact on me, but mostly in the the sense that it made me re-examine myself and consider whether or not I wanted to continue pursuing someone who didn't want me anymore.
The symbolism of the princess representing the idealized goal realized as the horror of the atomic bomb's manifestation as well as the protagonist realizing he is the monster he set out to liberate the princess from is THE MOST PROFOUND SHIT IN GAMING YET litterally this shit has been on my mind every day since i played this back in 2010
This is first game I played where the secrets are actually secret. I genuinely had no idea on my first playthrough that the game had hidden collectibles.
I recommend Joseph Anderson's video "A Great Game You Shouldn't Play." I'm sure he spoils it at some point. For me, it's a walking simulator wrapped around an IQ test. The big reveal didn't land for me, and there's more "stare at the monitor" stuff that wastes your time. I hate to say it, but I wish a publisher had reined in the ideas and built something that felt like a game.
@@blipblap614 I really like Joseph Anderson but for me this video of him is definetly the weakest one. I can only feel staht that the reveal didnt land for you, because for a lot of people (including me) it was, most likely, the most profound moment i had in my gaming experience ever. Also what are those things that there "just to waste your time"? Secret puzzles are fully optional, if you are talking about them. And i have no idea how they can "waste your time" when its like a cool interesting discoveries, that you can fully ignore too and just finish the game. And this game had no publisher, its fully a personal project of Jonathan Blow. Publisher would ve ruined the hell out of the game, because its really differs from most games. And considering that it has 85% of positive reviews out of 13k+ on steam, it definetly feels like a real game for the the vast majority of players.
I spent a few hours stuck on certian puzzles buts well worth it. The story is too good to experience any other way that first hand. Not to mention makes you think in ways no other puzzle or game will.
Dude, Doom Eternal and Braid are literally two of my favorite games. You should also check out another puzzle game called Gorogoa. It should only take about 90 minutes to finish, a small time investment to see some very unique ideas.

Another puzzle game you should try is The Return of the Obra Dinn. It’s by the same guy who made Papers Please. And it’s a really interesting concept. I won’t spoil anymore, just go check it out. It’s best to go in blind.
One of the greatest and genius games I’ve played. I want to say Fez came out around that time as well, unfortunately I didn’t finish it and it’s not available on Xbox beyond the 360, but I remember it gave me the same feeling of thinking “out of the box” kind of gameplay.
Aight Mayo I got a game for you to try “days gone” I found this is the only open world third person shooter to actually work well other than like breath of the wild
This is the game that made me realize, right at the beginning of the Renaissance of PC indie games, that I suck at platformers too much to enjoy any games like this no matter how rewarding they might otherwise be lol, whenever I thought, "naw this one is different" since I got burned. Too much time spent on shooters and RTS games in my youth to bother getting good at these.
Ooh, puzzle games! I recommend Baba is You, a game about changing the game rules in order to win in each level. Just don't expect to ever finish it all the way, it might also be the hardest puzzle game I've played and I enjoy the brutally difficult ones.
This reminds me of Portal Reloaded. A free Portal 2 mod that introduces the time portal. It's so mind-bending. Just like anything that uses time manipulation. It's great.
Brooo! I remember playing this game! loved it! everything about it! its was hard for me since it was the first game of this type that I played. but loved it! Music and art its crazy awesome
If you like how Braid teaches you its mechanics very organically, you might also like The Witness as they both share the same lead designer. Both are some of my favorite games and like your title says, some of the best puzzle games ever made.
I know others have already said it but dude... you gotta play The Witness! It's hands down the most incredible game I've ever played and really the perfection of Jon Blow's game design. If you think Braid is the greatest puzzle game then you're gonna be absolutely blown (no pun intended) away by The Witness.
I have a bit of a problem with Braid. It's one of those games that's more fun to watch people play than to play it myself. I beat it around the same time I first played Portal, but unlike Portal, I haven't had much of a desire to replay it. I love puzzle games but the difficulty of this one had me using guides more than I'd like. Maybe if it ever gets ported to a newer console I'll try it again.
Played this game ages ago, and while it's not my favorite puzzle game, it might be the hardest and most ingenious. "Fickle Companion" in particular wrecked my brain.
I love puzzle games, I'll have to give this a shot! Also, have you ever played Thumper? The two people who made it describe it as "rhythm violence." It's the best feeling game I've ever played, and does an amazing job pushing you into it's "fun zone"
I’d love more indie game reviews. There are a ton of great indies coming out this summer. Ori should be your number one game to review. The platforming and combat in ori pair better then doom eternals platforming and combat. The dash ability alone off enemies is beyond fun. It’s down right addictive when throwing down a 2 hit combo wile launching enemy projectiles. And the art style is unbelievable.
I have to stop the video to digest the puzzles... good puzzles produce a shift in the perception and understanding of a/the world and force you to find another view angle... in a new dimension. The world opens up.. and my brain is a bit overloaded :D
Portal 2 is a tremendous game but most of that comes from what surrounds the puzzles, the puzzles themselves aren't that mind blowing and are designed to be beaten by anyone. Braid is a good gateway game into the more brutal puzzle games out there. They are different beasts.

As a bonus: someone like you might REALLY enjoy The Talos Principle, if you actually want to delve into puzzle games more.
