Just finished playing Braid. Darn, this is some deep deconstruction of the game true meaning. I love Blow's vision on individual perspectives and world perception, just like in The Witness. He's a complete genius. Really wish he keeps making games. Great video, you got everything explained clearly. Greetings from Colombia :)
What you mention at the end of the video about the castle being a monument to the journey of growth... Really makes you look at Super Mario 64 in a different light. The castle is a metaphor for the player.
Hey there, hope you enjoyed the video! Did you know I’m making a game? You can check it out and add to your wishlist here: store.steampowered.com/app/2535370/Tyrants_Twilight/
Thanks for helping me make sense of a precious experience, I had this saved to rewatch when I need some introspection and clarity. My full thanks go out to you 🙏 The only other game where you get “episodic glimpses” that ties in game mechanics and condense them into a life lesson at the end - I’d say it’s NieR Automata. But your analysis has shown that even a shorter game like Braid can have a lot to say about a grounded “smell the roses” worldview I desperately needed at this point in life. I really owe you this one 🙏
I am encountering this video _after_ the recent 2024 release of Braid Anniversary Edition. It contains an immense amount of commentary, itself curated from entirely new interviews with Jon and his team (and said interviews are being separately released as podcast episodes). Much of that interview content is itself condensation of the various talks he's given, several of which you drew on to produce this analysis. It is interesting to see that other people like yourself were interested enough to collate this information into a presentation on their own before Thekla Inc undertook the same effort.
Very good in depth analysis of a very ingenious game that explores its main concept to the fullest. So many games only scratch the surface of their mechanic leaving you wanting more and thinking about all the possibilities and potential the game had. Looking forward to more in depth analysis from you, enjoyed your videos on Ueda's games as well
This explanation of the game is phenomenal. Experiencing this masterpiece within the framework of these explanations is an extremely satisfying feeling. Thanks for the video
Hey there, hope you enjoyed the video! Did you know I recently started working on a game? There’s a playable proof of concept and everything! ruclips.net/video/fi83qmNLmgA/видео.html I want to take all the things I learn from analyzing the narrative design of my favorite games and try to apply it to a project of my own. If you’re interested in that, here’s a link to the game’s Discord server: discord.gg/dM89pMVy

I swear you are a very underrated creator. What sort of work do you do as a living?
Thanks! currently working in IT, hope to be a game dev one day
@@gameoverture what are the odds. That's currently my life as well. Are aiming at indie dev or are you trying to break into AAA?
Outstanding video, well researched! Would have loved to know if you had some more critical thoughts on this game or the creator

you haven't uploaded in so long, waiting for ur next video
Yeah, sorry about that. 'm working on a new video on Celeste, but it's probably still 3 months away at least
@@gameoverture wow celeste yes. 3 months no. I'll be waiting :p
I typed lot. Last part is all matters, Worked with Johnny
Respect for the video and insight but So long of a video . Sumize some and I'd of got To end. No.disrespect! I work at KJP© And we are in talk with creative behind braid, Johnathan. The atomic bomb is metaphor to a situation in his life and many others in the world, ever loss someone close and in time thinking back is a little, fuzzy. Somber. Odd in a sense. Apparently (Apparent?, Sorry i am from JP) the Tim character was supposed to easily be known of who he was a nod / influence for the model, and name sort of.
I type lot in English, and im in the states for Hideo locations for new IP. Sorry. Ill try to type.it streamlined like in a summation page for a scrjpt.
Atomic bomb is something metaphic you say, "The room looks likea a bomb hit it" -there are more known sayings, i don't have my notepad on me and they change in Western verbiage. The game is.
