I'm attending his workshop in Toronto on Sept 10th! $300 well spent, investing in your career is extremely important. Will definitely review the workshop in our vlogs, thanks for showing me this!
I have an idea for a short film but it requires a bank... is there anyway I could film inside of a bank or would they even allow it? If not is there any other ways I could get a place that would look similar to a bank?
These lenses are actually Rokinon and are going on Amazon for $2,400 each or the set of 3 for $7,200. As far as affordability goes, thats subjective as 98% of most people cant afford that. As far as I am concerned, I am perfectly happy with my set of Rokinon Cine lenses (50mm, 35mm, 85mm, 24,mm, 14mm) and I paid $2,000 even for the whole set.
First time I fogged up one of my expensive lenses, I flipped out. I ended up holding it over my toaster until all of the visible vapor disappeared.... My mom walked in and asked what I was doing holding my body-less lens over our kitchen toaster. I think she's just used to me doing weird things like this now...
+AminTheMystic Just because he doesn't make film-making videos, doesn't mean he doesn't own a lens. Expensive is relative. It doesn't mean it was thousands of dollars. Get your panties fixed buddy. No problem here.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly reference? Should make it a contest to see who can pick up on your references each week. maybe some website goodies could be prizes.
Dear Ryan, I'm really into film making these days, and your shows are perfect for me:) I have a Canon 5D MKIII at home, so do u mind to make an episode on how to maximize it's video quality? Thanks
While I love all of your episodes, as they are a learning experience, I was wondering if you had any techniques for no budget filming. I don't mean like $1,000 budget, I mean like $100 dollars max. Any ideas?
Thanks for posting this guys. I have to say that the difference is almost indistinguishable on the clips shown. I did notice that the raw clips at 2:29 thru 2:31 look darker and bluer then when they are all put side by side at 2:32. Was white balance changed? Either way, based off this test, they all look extremely similar. I'd like to see how the XEEN's compare to Zeiss and Canon when it comes to edge to edge sharpness, bokeh aesthetics, wide open aperture performance, color fringing, flare quality and optimal f-stop performance. I'll also be looking forward to when someone pits the XEEN's to optimal quality glass like Cooke S4's or Leica Summilux-C's. If these really do hold up well, I might be willing to finally make an investment into pl mount glass.
As always a joy to watch and learn. Only thing is I do miss is your old style domain.com adverts/skits, would you try making one or two of them again? Thanks either way, cheers for all the sweet reviews.
I wanted to get your advice on filming,,gh5 ,,,I have the cannon 70-200mm,, the EF 16-35mm, Lumix 35-100mm, SLR Magic 8mm f/4.0 Ultra Wide Angle Lens and Xeen 24 mm rokinon so if you were shooting videos or a movie how would you use them?
what camera did you used? i've seen some other xeen test and the quality looks way superior that the one you did... of course if you use a canon camera the canon lenses are going to look better.
Hi Ryan, I like Film Riot and I like the content you guys upload. I'm stuck on an issue. How do you film a dialogue scene with just one camera, how to edit it and do you use one mic audio recording for the whole dialogue scene or bits from the different shot. And how do you make that scene more dynamic and not a boring conversation. Thanks, Kiren S.
I know I'm not Ryan but you just film the scene twice. Once over the shoulder of your first actor and then again over the shoulder over your next. Or you could look to the Master of Dialogue, Tarantino and watch the opening scene of both Reservoir Dogs in the diner and again the two shot in the opening Diner Scene in Pulp Fiction. Also I found a trick to keep it dynamic is to have the actors move around or keep the camera moving. Hope that helps.
i what to buy new a7sII for wedding cinematic video . pls tell me which is the best lens for cinematic video dslr lens or cinema lens, tell me which u suggested low budget
Hi, how are you? I have an XEEN 50mm T1.5 lens and I want to place it in a Canon C200 4k camera but I need an adapter and I don't know which is the ideal adapter, can you please help me?
Thanks Connolly :C I din't know about the Alex's Visual Storytelling tour until I watched your episode. I was totally considering about Registering for tickets around the Orlando area. but it turns out that was today :c
I bought a Rokinon 35mm cine for my last short film. I had to send the lens back three times because each seemed to have small manufacturing defects (foggy image and an audible scraping sound when changing aperture). However, I still love the lens for the quality-to-cost ratio and the mission statement of Rokinon (aka Bower, aka Samyang) which seems to be to provide quality equipment to indie filmmakers at a price they can afford. I'd love to compare these new xeen lenses to the Rokinons and see how they differ!
Would have been cool to see a few other lighting situations. Liek for instance how the lenses handle flaring and such. And if they keep noise back in very low light conditions.
Can you do an episode on subtexting, the underlying meaning in movie-making. I am hugely impressed with that in Hollywood films just as any film maker would be. Thanks, I had a great time watching this!
+Eric Lopes cheers :) yeah, it is the same old f/1.4 reworked in the third iteration. Very interesting to find out if they have solved the lens breathing which was the only major problem with video lens versions of the Samyang/Rokinon.
Hi Ive noticed a lot of your videos are geared towards film makers interested in creating action movies. Do you have any advice for film makers that are in the "indie, romantic comedy, coming of age type" films and more DIY tips? Thnks love this channel!
Ryan footage looks buttery good! What light setups were you using for these shots? BTW, I was at Visualstorytelling2 in Chicago! It was fantastic. Alex Buono shared so much good stuff. I recommend this to anyone interested in taking their craft to the next level.
It's funny seeing that graphic he uses behind the text. Cause it's a free wallpaper image. My old band used it for one of our album covers. Don't tell anyone...... Just search "The Crash Years - Disposition"
It hasn't gone unnoticed how you have to 'justify' your lack of connection or sponsorship to and/or from the products, seminars, etc... that you mention on the show. and it makes me sad. For all you've done and continue to do for the community, you have our thanks. #hatersgonnahate #outofplacehashtags #whynot
I'd never do a sponsored review. That would have input from the company, which would make it dishonest. The only time we have sponsors we say it. I always have to put the disclaimer in to stop the inevitable comments.
Thanks man! We started doing to try and get ahead of the comments. Always get "you were paid to say that" nonsense if we don't. Thanks for being awesome!
+Film Riot Thanks for using the disclaimer every time and distinguishing between paid overviews and regular reviews! That distinction is important, even if people might be obnoxious about it in the comments.
This may not be the best place to ask and I’m probably gonna get roasted but can someone help me on a lens and a camera? I’ve always been interested in filming and cinema, specifically cars. I don’t have a super crazy budget to spend on gear. I’m completely lost and do not know where to start or what to get.
I remember the first time my lenses got condensation in them. I was so confused cause I did one shot and it was fine then all of sudden it's all fogged up! lol
+Film Riot ah I see, it's been so great to watch film riot evolve over the years, I've learned so much invaluable knowledge from you and I'm happy to see you are able to shoot on such nice gear :-)
I just got a Panasonic GH4 for my short films, and I'm definitely going to check out these lenses. Thanks Ryan!
+Jensen Tung Right on man. You'll love them.
+Film Riot when are Monday challenges coming back?
Josh's face in the prime lens lineup was amazing... Just amazing...
I went to his first Story Telling class, and it was one of the greatest days of my life! :D
I hate to be that guy but is Intercept going to be released in September now?
idk
I dunno but don't worry we're all "that guy"
It's coming in September
+QuissProductions Yep it might gonna be an epic fall
Still not out guys... Lol
Film Riot is life

Finally! been waiting for it all day!
I'm going to the evening seminar of the Visual Storytelling Tour in Boston!
I have an idea for a short film but it requires a bank... is there anyway I could film inside of a bank or would they even allow it? If not is there any other ways I could get a place that would look similar to a bank?

@@kaushikfilms1922 to start out, I used a Canon Prime 50mm off of eBay for I think around $60
First time I fogged up one of my expensive lenses, I flipped out. I ended up holding it over my toaster until all of the visible vapor disappeared.... And? What of it? A child with gaming video and such subscribers... the story is a silly little lie by a kid.

I'll be hitting the Visual Storytelling Tour next week. Should be interesting!
I was fortunate to attend Alex's class as well. Good stuff!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly reference? Should make it a contest to see who can pick up on your references each week. maybe some website goodies could be prizes.
Have you used Schneider FF lenses? How they can be compared to others? Heard that they are slightly better comparing to Canon and Zeiss.
Those Xeen lenses look very cool and that Alex Buono workshop looks amazing. Two reviews in one great job Ryan.
Im going to see the visual story telling tour on tuesday. I cant wait, super stoked.
Dear Ryan, I'm really into film making these days, and your shows are perfect for me:) I have a Canon 5D MKIII at home, so do u mind to make an episode on how to maximize it's video quality? Thanks

BEEN WAITING ALL DAY FOR THIS
Can I ask about the xeens. Did you notice more focus breathing than the more expensive canon etc?
What do you recommend for a camera body for these lens? A dlsr? Something else?
Thanks for posting this guys. I have to say that the difference is almost indistinguishable on the clips shown. Funny thing, I preferred the Zeiss look before the reveal but it seemed suggestive. They were all pretty close.
As always a joy to watch and learn. Only thing is I do miss is your old style domain.com adverts/skits, would you try making one or two of them again? Thanks either way, cheers for all the sweet reviews.
We just did a new domain add a few weeks ago. Other sketches will come back for sure.
Sweet!
Love that Leone reference at the end. Thanks for the awesome channel!
do a HitFilm tutorial!!
Is he going to do another talk soon? Ryan when are you going to do a talk?
Hey Ryan! could you possibly show how to walk through a person? it would help a lot! thanks!
Hi. what type of camera you are using? the quality is awesome. thanks for help!😊
I watched the pan @ 2:07 three times, it got even better each time.
great video guys :)
I worked with those lenses on a shoot a few months ago. Great stuff!
what camera did you used? i've seen some other xeen test and the quality looks way superior that the one you did... of course if you use a canon camera the canon lenses are going to look better.

Nice lenses... And nice Good, Bad, and the Ugly reference there at the end... I see what you did there...
i what to buy new a7sII for wedding cinematic video . pls tell me which is the best lens for cinematic video dslr lens or cinema lens, tell me which u suggested low budget
Do you think one of these would be good to get as my first cinema grade lens?
Hey Ryan! Can you please make an in depth tutorial on shooting a dialogue scene with one camera? (3 angles, recording sound, takes)
Hi, how are you? I have an XEEN 50mm T1.5 lens and I want to place it in a Canon C200 4k camera but I need an adapter and I don't know which is the ideal adapter, can you please help me?
Hey Ryan, could you talk about white balance in one of your videos? Plus, I really do like bacon and ostriches.... because they inspire me.
Thanks Connolly :C I din't know about the Alex's Visual Storytelling tour until I watched your episode. I was totally considering about Registering for tickets around the Orlando area. but it turns out that was today :c
I know! I found out yesterday that it was today. So bummed.

Hey ryan, could you suggest some good cine lenses btw $800-1000. Not to be 4k. Just for startup. Also josh, turbulent displacement.
Would have been cool to see a few other lighting situations. Liek for instance how the lenses handle flaring and such. And if they keep noise back in very low light conditions.
The outside shots were all done in the last light before night. It was very low-light.
Can you do an episode on subtexting, the underlying meaning in movie-making. I am hugely impressed with that in Hollywood films just as any film maker would be. Thanks, I had a great time watching this!
We definitely will at some point.
Nice reference to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly at the end :P
Awesome video film riot. Have you ever tried the Pentacon vintage lenses for video work?
How are the XEEN lenses at "breathing"? On the Rokinons it is fairly noticeable
+Scott Lamp I didn't notice any. But I forgot to check for that.
still upset to know that Alex was in kansas city and i didn't even know about it until now when its too late :(
I really love the new graphics and the new background. Goood stuff. I love lenses too. Great episode! ... Also, I love lamp....
NOOOO my boss said i could go to Alex's storytelling workshop but i just realized the one in my area was last night!
Any chance Alex Buono will take his tour and make a dvd out of it
Nice detail in them lenses.
I actually prefer those xeen. I really like the contrast they have.
2:13
I WANT THAT ONE, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM APERTURE? IT LOOKS PRETTY SHARP TO ME.
+ArrKayCee As he said on the video. It costs half as much as the canon (which costs around $4,500) and the maximum aperture is f/1.5.
Eric Lopes I was referring to the beautiful Josh that was on the table.
+Eric Lopes T/1.5. F/1.4 with some minor light loss down to T/1.5. (F is aperture, T is effective light transmission through glass and coating)
+randomgeocacher I know the difference between T and F-stops, just didn't notice this lenses were labeled this way. Thanks, of course, for clarifying.
+Eric Lopes cheers :) yeah, it is the same old f/1.4 reworked in the third iteration. Very interesting to find out if they have solved the lens breathing which was the only major problem with video lens versions of the Samyang/Rokinon.

Splendid...will check it out...
That was awesome. Always loving your vids! I also preferred the warmer canon one! Thanks
Ryan footage looks buttery good! What light setups were you using for these shots?
BTW, I was at Visualstorytelling2 in Chicago! It was fantastic. Alex Buono shared so much good stuff. I recommend this to anyone interested in taking their craft to the next level.
Zeiss really does have a great look for faces.
Congratulations
I can now double the speed of YT videos like this, and understand it better ;-)
I'd love to see these side by side with some Sigma art lenses or the regular rokinons
Thanks ... well done!
At first, I thought the speed of this video was set to 1.5, then I realised you just take very fast - S L O W down man :D
Josh is my favorite types of lens.
why is the price on lensprotogo for these lenses under 200$ on amazon it is over 4000$?
What is the best priced lens that will work for the 6k sensor in the Kinefinity?
Thanks for the vid! you guys are always helpful and weird.
that sad moment when you are watching on 360p and ryan does image comparaison ...
Alex link is not working
hey man, what do you think about the samyang cine lenses
+Film Riot
Dear Ryan,
I'm looking for a good AD, what characteristics do I look for?
Is it me or does B(the Canon) make him look a little slimmer?
will these lens's work for the rebel t3
It's funny seeing that graphic he uses behind the text. Cause it's a free wallpaper image. My old band used it for one of our album covers. Don't tell anyone...... Just search "The Crash Years - Disposition"

The thing is that Film Riot does have sponsorships, and so a sponsorship from of of those companies is more likely if he didn't have that disclaimer.
I'd never do a sponsored review. That would have input from the company, which would make it dishonest. The only time we have sponsors we say it. I always have to put the disclaimer in to stop the inevitable comments.

uhh rather than messing around with the fogged elements you should have definitely prioritized the defogging process.
Was that ending a reference to the wake short film Ryan recommended us?
I'm pretty sure it was a reference to The Good The Bad And The Ugly
dear Ryan, are subscribed to red shark news??
This may not be the best place to ask and I’m probably gonna get roasted but can someone help me on a lens and a camera? I’ve always been interested in filming and cinema, specifically cars. I don’t have a super crazy budget to spend on gear. I’m completely lost and do not know where to start or what to get.
Does anyone know if theres been some lens test´s between the Xeen´s and the cheap Rokinon´s?
What font did you use for the cupon code text? Thanks!
Interestingly enough, my favorite was the Zeiss... I don't know why.
Did you say xide note?
Cannon
I have a question.. How much would u sell josh for ? :P
+CV Films Doesn't Emily own Josh?
hahaha.. Nice one..
But like he would still have a price right ?
like 5 goats and a camel ?? or 2 ducks and 5 dolphins.. Film Riot
Why don't you guys ever use annotations?
What camera were you using for this?
C100
I remember the first time my lenses got condensation in them. I was so confused cause I did one shot and it was fine then all of sudden it's all fogged up! lol
+Film Riot - do you know if these lenses are parfocal?
BTW love your videos. Thanks for them all.
They're not zoom lenses, so they can't really be parfocal (which only applies to zoom lenses).
Fair point. Not sure what I was thinking.
+jtan163 were you thinking about focus breathing?
A video on The Weeknd's new music video Tell Your Friends?
I forget which episode it was but I wish josh would do his domaindacom thing lol
wait Ryan you have canon cinema primes? which ones?
+Griffon J No. I just rent them for projects. They are usually the ones I go for.
+Film Riot ah I see, it's been so great to watch film riot evolve over the years, I've learned so much invaluable knowledge from you and I'm happy to see you are able to shoot on such nice gear :-)
Will this lens work canon t6 reble anybody let me anybody thank u
Rokinon is fine for low budget, if your gonna buy the xeen, just get the canon. Xeen is crazy expensive
Literally said "Oh shit" when the first test video went up. Wasn't even viewing in full HD but that's some NICE quality.
Thanks to the Ry Ry God I will make my films look glorious
