Absolutely, I am 51 and I do 100 Burpees a day. Doing Burpees strengthened my entire body. I even add different exercises in with my Burpee routine. Keep it up.
@@markharvey5989 Oh, yeah, suuure...the lazyness in the genes. My mom, for example, she has always practiced excercises, but at some point in her life (after her 40's) she got osteophytes in her spine. Aging and genetics are some of its causes. It doesn't matter if you're an active person or not. Not everything is lazyness. Some people have medical conditions and others have little flexibility. What I see most are people who have been exercising forever, but still have little flexibility. This is very common among weight-lifters.
59 and still doing burpees … a LOT of burpees. “The whole point of a burpee is just get your heart rate up”? No sir. Doing various types of burpees such as Navy Seals, pyramids, etc, builds strength and muscular endurance. Do them right and you’ll reap the benefits.
I do 100 (10 per set, 30 breaths rest in between), at 46, have NEVER injured my back doing them. I do them prison style, plus the jump. Then again I've been working out for 30 years, snd it took ne 1 year to get the technique just right (Wes Watson).
I always tell people to do what works for them so if it works for you, and you have no pain, then great! Sounds like you know how to get better not older 👊
Yes, and just learn to 8 crease the volume after you’re able to keep “decent” form. Similar to learning to run distances by increasing the mileage little by little.
o Médico q está orientando tem pernas finas e braços finos...e tá falando que está errado tudo...kkkkk....por isso que o mundo está assim repleto de teorias e nada de prática...vamos fazer mais 30 burpees em homenagem a ele kkkk...
Burpees are not the problem, back issues are. So if you have back issues, avoid doing them like you would avoid doing deadlifts. Otherwise, burpees is a good no equipment cardio exercise.
He is actually somewhat right, im 43, not overweight, active in all sports and I'm an individual that always tries to perfect good form in pull ups, push ups, etc. And one morning I did some burpees and got some bad hip pain that traveled to my back, and bothered me all day, but everyone is different, so if not bothering you, than more power to you, i really enjoyed doing them though, but not worth risk for me
Burpees are not for everyone. I did 100 jumping jacks followed by 100 burpees and boy I had lower back pain for 2 years. I had to sleep on a hard and flat surface. I will never repeat this mistake again. I would rather do modifications or slide on towels or worm crawlers. This video is on point for seniors like us.
@@danwayne786 …perhaps if you'd just done the 100 jacks and maybe half that in burpees you might have been o.k….everyone, at any age, needs to be careful, use decent form, and know their limitations. I tore my Achilles tendon earlier this year possibly from doing too many jumps, calf raises, bunny hops, topped off with a short, steep hill run with my Shepherd Dog. I ended up limping around for 6 months before it finally heeled. My loyal companion was so discontent she ran off from me more than a few times because she wasn't getting her daily dose of much needed exercise. I suppose I,ve learned a lesson.
Doc said "most of the people" which is quite right. Most of the people are obese or overweight with back problems, bad mobility and flexibility... you got the point. My favorite is burpee Pull Up with the full stop when I catch the bar.
I'm a 71 year old male and I like to mix things up a bit, so I still do high-jumping burpees, but only here and there, perhaps 20-30 at a time, and I don,t feel anything but good about them. If I feel any pain at all, no matter what I do, I stop. I'm also not super flexible, and I'm quite tight all over, but always have been - I don't break easy. At 5’9” and 175 pounds, burpees work for me. This is purely anecdotal, so be careful people, and be smart!🍀
Keep them up mate... same here burpees are amazing! Another overweight unhealthy looking doctor giving advice... I warm up for 5 to 10mins then get after it, im 49 completely natty in great shape from burpees and kettlebells
I personally don't do them anymore but instead, I do squats and pushups without rest and I get a similar effect. Burpees are definitely a great exercise but unfortunately as seen on so many channels, form is abused for the sake of reps, which naturally lead to injury. I remember back in boot camp we did these as punishment and they were referred to as bends and thrusts back then lol.
Yeah some people, especially in the younger crowd can get away with doing them and have no issues. However, that's not the case for a lot of my patients which is why I try to provide alternatives and avoid the pain/injury altogether.
"form is abused for the sake of reps" +10000 had to stop classes at the gym because this was a consistent issue. They'd push you way too hard and then act like you were being lazy if you didn't do 20 of this, 30 of that back to back. I am not lazy. I am not out of shape. But alot of that led directly to (albeit minor) injuries.
My lumbar hernia thanks you your advise. I guess a few decades ago, +30 or +40 y.o. didnt do much excersise. Today you have ( thank Dog) +50, +60 and more doing regular training , so now we see some problems more often than before
Yea this has been destroying me. It's part of the boxing warm up in my gym. I'm 42. It's brutal. Been trying to modify my movements. Just go really slow.
so a video for people withback problems. good stuff. those with out problems get some or you will see doctor for a wasted back……. wait a minute there doc! GOOD ONE.
Bodyweight skier swings are an even better option as your arms help to keep your spin stable, and it is almost a full body no impact exercise. I am in awe that you can do mountain climbers still. I can't do any exercises with impact on my feet because of serious nerve pain on my feet. Burpees are never a good idea at any age.
First, the culprit of lower back pain while doing burpees is usually caused by bad form not the exercise. Second, if you are not flexible/mobile enough to do a burpee then you should be working on flexibility/mobility so you can be able to do burpees without lower back pain.
I'm a former Army Ranger with Airborne jumps and heavy ruck marches under my belt, my back is bad, have a disk in my L4 that is almost completely gone and my orthopedic surgeon suggested disk replacement surgery, but I've been physically active since I was 17 even before the military, I include navy seal burpee sessions in my weekly workouts and my back doesn't feel it , but it's like you said Doc, if you're not already slightly limber and physically active after 40, then yes I could see your assessment on spinal overflexion doin burpees most definitely.
Burpees are THE greatest exercise! It works out every single part of the body especially when you add the pushup. Yes mountain climbers jump squats and jump lunges will get you breathing extremely heavy as well but burpees wins by a long shot just be careful stiffen up When you need to and be loose when needed. Ive never hurt myself doing burpees, getting closer to 40 weights actually have been my enemy
I think the key is changing it up. Don't do the same thing all the time. I have found great substitutes for burpees. They aren't for everyone. I'm 60 and just had an X-ray that showed grade 1 anterolisthesis in L4 &5. I am getting better with doing more mobility and mild low impact strength and cardio. I don't know if I will ever go back to heavy weights, and definitely no more RDL's. But love the lifting form and tips. I need to remember good back form and move slower.

Macam2 jenis sakit muncul bila berusia, sakit lutut, sakit pinggang, tangan menggeletar. Semuanya hilang begitu sahaja. Itu benda yang nampak jelas. Lain2 tak tahu lagi. Ini pun sudah cukup bagus sebenarnya. Kadang2 sergah budak2 kurang ajar tu biasa je. Setahun mungkin sekali dua sahaja. Biasa.
56....2..to 5...hundred a dsy
