Streibough immediately got himself on my “Most Hated Characters” list. Even if his opinion of Oersted was the truth (like I’d trust the word of traitor) absolutely nothing justifies what he did in the slightest. His actions not only got the king, Uranus, and princess killed, but also doomed the kingdom and gave birth to a threat that nearly wiped out all of humanity. And he shows no remorse for it! Even in the Trial of the Heart, he can’t bring himself to accept all of this is his fault and that he’s a worse monster than he claimed Oersted was. At least Oersted regretted everything and redeemed himself in the end (this is also why I don’t buy Streibough’s version of events. If Oersted was half as bad as he claimed, he never would have shown remorse for his actions).

@@reijikogarashi1867 to further amplify your hatred: some interpret she was in on the whole thing and in love with Streibough the whole time and killed herself to spite Oersted since he wouldn’t be able to prove his innocence. She doesn’t outrank Streibough for me since it’s an interpretation that doesn’t entirely align with what we saw (maybe it was in the original) and she recognized her fault in Oersted’s fall in the Trial of the Heart and seemed genuinely remorseful for spiting him.

    • @WhirlyBeepBoops

I think Streibough _did_ just realize that it was his fault when we read his thoughts in the Trial of Heart. "And so I led him to a throne of bone..."
Doesn't excuse him - not even a bit - but still worth bringing up.

Ode Iou: Huh, odd name for Japanese.
Odeo: Wait, that sounds a little like...
    O. Dio: Okay, this is a bit unusual.
Ou Di Wan Lee: Somewhat similar but at least it's not entirely--
Odie O'Bright: THERE'S FREAKING NAMING CONVENTION WITH THESE BOSSES!?
Odo and OD-10 were just salt on the wound at that point. Not even the reveal of Odio could've made things worse.

Live A Live was a game I was aware of for years thanks to having friends who also like niche RPGs & knew it inspired Toby Fox, but I never knew what the story was fully like. So when that logo flashed on screen during the February Direct, I was excited. My reaction was "That's a name I never thought we'd see again", I pre-ordered it, & yeah. To go off of your final thoughts on the #1 pick, it INSTANTLY jumped to being one of my favorite final bosses in gaming. Also doesn't hurt that the game has an aspect that wasn't really needed to be mentioned in the video, YOU CAN NAME EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER PROTAG. In my case, I named three characters off of names I've gone by. Masaru was my real name because default was also a full name (didn't fully click for some reason that Masaru would be Japanese when I'm not until it was too late), I used my OC name Shadow Gale for the outlaw nickname (Shadow Gale Kid just sounds cool), & for the final character, Triforce. My go-to "insert name here" option when I don't feel like doing the canon names. So yeah. You can imagine the extra oomph that gave when I hit the twist.

    • @Triforce_of_Doom
      @Triforce_of_Doom 2 года назад

Also for those wondering, I went for Yun because the "weakest base character becoming busted" aspect is something I felt just heighten the whole kung-fu movie vibes. Even took the idea of his story growth as the reason I picked him as the main protag for the finale.

    • @niamhwallace8779
      @niamhwallace8779 Год назад +2

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that this Dub is good! That's something I sadly don't hear a lot praising... or at least, what I've seen! Which, if you ask me, is pretty much unfortunate... Because not only do these Voice Actors do an amazing job... But... well, I ended up finding one of my more... unintentional favourite Voice Actors as of late! Eh he... Yeah. I can be nervous to admit that I haven't followed a whole lot on Anime, but I wasn't expecting that one of the included Voice Actors of this game, Stephen Fu, would end up being on my personal favourite Voice Actors list! And to be fair, I played the Demo first, and I was trying to guess who was voicing this Ninja...
Man, I wasn't expecting that fun twist that Season 2 Naofumi (or as I like to call him... NaoFUmi! XD Yeah... I guess you could say that I like to make puns sometimes!)... and the fact that I discovered that he actually has quite the pedigree on Anime... namely shows like My Hero Academia and games like AI The Somnium Files nirvanA Initiative (which I highly recommend taking a look at, by the by!)... Even freaking HUGH FROM POKEMON MASTERS EX!! ONE OF MY FAVOURITE RIVALS FROM THE 2D POKEMON GAMES! THAT'S ONE OF THE LAST CASTING CHOICES I EXPECTED AND I LOVE IT!!
Ah ha... Apologies if I rambled. Of course, I do think that the other Cast Members were fantastic, too! Plus, the way this was voiced shows to me two things I admire; Firstly is that they've made good use of some more lesser known Voice Actors (or at least, ones I didn't know about before I've discovered this game myself), but also the fact that there's quite a few repeating Cast members that they used pretty effectively- sometimes, even a somewhat comparatively small (I don't know what best to describe it as... Erm... focused, I guess?) cast can work wonders! Ah ha...
Oh, and I DEFINITELY agree with ya- I mean, Dario Coates (I'm hoping that I've spelt it right...) literally NAILED Oersted!
FUN FACT: In my own playthrough of the game, I actually nicknamed the main characters in my own way! I've actually nicknamed Oborumaru as Ryukimaru (as a fun nod to Ryuki from AI The Somnium Files nirvanA Initiative... which I definitely want to play at some point!) and I also nicknamed Oersted as Naofumi... Rising of The Shield Hero reference, I know! I actually like that Anime Series!
Okay, gotta go! XD I hope that you didn't mind me rambling, you guys!

This game would make a pretty good crossover with Kingdom Hearts. The world would play out a little like Timeless River in a way. Sora and the crew would play out the time eras in chronology order except the Medevil Ages. At the end of each era the crew would encounter a magical crystal that would show them bits of the story of Oersted, until they get the full story. Sora, his friends, and all the heroes from the other eras then travel to the Dominion of Hate to put a stop to Oersted. I think that would be awesome.

I’m with you on the “STOP IT WITH THE NFTS SQUARE!”
    Now.
If only Square would give Dungeon Siege another chance instead of relegating it to an nft scheme after they killed the series by making a sequel that was a complete departure mechanically having nothing to do with the first two games. A remake of the second game would be the only way, the first game hasn’t aged well, lacking fast travel, properly refined mechanics, a cohesive story, skill trees etc. but that’s probably never happening.

The chapter actually has quite a few endings, including one you can get right at the start. Instead of infiltrating the castle you can just turn around and leave. This results in an ending where Oboromaru is branded as a traitor and struck down by his allies.

It does sting me that Edo Japan and Near Future are at the bottom given they're my favorites of the 7 original. But I do agree the 2 final chapters to unlock are at the very top. And while I love all chapters, Prehistory is probably my least favorite overall. While it is funny how it references Flintstones, there is too much crude humor in the powers and abilities to my liking. But beyond those two at the bottom I'd squeeze up and place them as numbers 4 and 3 respectively and Prehistory being slid to the bottom. The rest of the list looks pretty agreeable to me.

And I think in the English version, he stops right after Watanabe yelled "LEAVE MY DAD ALONE!", and I think that's his cue of "OK, OK, I'm a heel asshole, but even traumatizing a kid by killing his dad is too low for me. Since I just finished the game, I guess I’ll give my two cents on the topic.
#9: Edo Japan. Going for either pacifist or bloodthirsty is too much of a chore with little payoff. Especially since the trial of keys can be done right away and give him a better weapon on the outset.
#8: Near Future. Can be confusing at times, didn’t like the protagonist, the crafting was more miss than hit, at least the combat was fine… But the Robot Enhancements NOT going into the last chapter was not cool!
#7: Distant Future. Gonna be honest, the only reason it’s this low is because I hate horror games and this reminded me too much of that. Great otherwise!
#6: Wild West. Time management is fine, but I kinda wish you could do more while waiting. Instead of waiting around like an idiot. At least Sundown Kid was a blast.
#5: Present Day. Everything felt like a chess match, with each move there to bait the opponent. However, if the opponent doesn’t do what you want, you’re gonna have to restart that fight, which can be VERY annoying.
#4: Prehistory. The best chapter to start with bar none! Simple yet fun story! Introduced a lot of the game’s mechanics to the player! And a super boss you need to grind to level 13 to beat wait WHAT?!
#3: Imperial China. My favourite chapter of the main seven, I love the sense of progression within. Teaching your pupils so they can learn everything you have to teach them only to see two of them being murdered in your absence? Yeah I was hooked! Add to that training only one means getting the strongest pupil possible, but also choosing who dies! Weights on you! And the gameplay was really fun! Only downside would be having to play a new game entirely if you want to have the other disciples in the final chapter (or do this chapter last have have a save file before the end).
#2: Middle Ages. The story seems simple at first and the gameplay is standard fantasy JRPG, but then the twist in the king’s chamber and everything that follows makes this a remarkable chapter! Also, Streibough is hateable as all hell and Alethea… The way I saw it, she was either in on it from the start and knew what she was doing or was thoughtless in everything and still caused everything to lead to Oersted becoming Odio.
#1: Dominion of Hate. Yes. Just yes. Everything about this is amazing! Recruiting everyone from the other stories and fighting alongside them, all the super bosses, the trials to obtain everyone’s ultimate weapon, the final battle, the chapter boss rematches, and that FINALE where OERSTED REDEEMS HIMSELF! All of it made this game one I am glad I played and would 1000% recommend others to play!

Personally for me it would be:
9 Twillight Edo (outside of the combat, there isn't too much story to the infiltration mission, so while I enjoyed it, it didn't bring too much in that department that other chapters bring).
      8. Present Day (Learning the moves of other opponents while nice, can be somewhat tricky since starting against some opponents makes it way more difficult to learn them than against others. Because of that, I ended up on the Game Over screen a good 5 times or so before finding one that I could actually do reasonably, and then afterwards, it was somewhat easy to get the rest. I wish the game would auto save you to the fight screen selection so I didn't have to skip through the opening cutscenes until learning you could manually save on it, but still having to reset over and over was slightly infuriating, hence it dropped significantly on the list).
      7. Imperial China (Last bit drags on a little too much, otherwise it is a good chapter. It is a shame I didn't realise dumping all the stat boosts into one character was the optimal solution, but oh well).
      6. Wild West (it's short and sweet, and that's about it. If it had a bit more fights it might have gotten higher).
      5. Distant Future (The story is good, but Stealth mechanics is NOT my cup of tea. It thankfully didn't stay for too long, but still I didn't enjoy those parts of the chapter).
      4. Prehistoric Era (who doesn't love a good homage to flintstones cars and goofy body language to tell a story, especially loved the animation of the crafting dude who just pointed to two bubbles and then at you for whether you wanted to continue crafting or not).
      3. Near Future. While a bit on the longer side, the battle music and the rather dark story definitly sold me on this chapter being good, as well as the characters in the setting being enjoyable to watch telling their lives of orphans/delinquents in a sci-fi setting. Also hearing the priest screaming Odeo is something I more or less can't get out of my mind. It also helps that the enemies was visible on the map, making random encounters much less frustrating to handle and avoid.
      2. The Middle Ages. Orsted Really gets handed the L on this chapter, and while the area suffers from the same issues that the final chapter does, it isn't as long at least, and Difficult fight is definitly a favourite in terms of battle music, outside of Dancing with Matangos. A shame that some of the motivations of some characters was apparently cut from the remake, albeit my skepticism of said character's actions and voice direction led to me mostly guessing what was at work once the ending was ready to play.
      1. Final Chapter. I think this one is pretty self explanatory, considering the vast amount of content it brings. My only sleight towards this chapter is that the game REALLY needed a way to deal with frequent random encounters, because moving around the map (especially once you have gotten up to a solid level 14-15 on average, with your main character easily hitting 18-20) is super frustrating, when you are taking 2- 8 encounters just walking from one screen to the next (especially those larger ones). The only reason I even ran into one specific super boss is because I had to run from so many encounters due to being overleveled (as well as randomly hitting Akira's Trial early on since I didn't know Teleport auto replaced the flee command, and that it wouldn't be gone until he left the party, not to mention enemies was kinda scary to deal with only having two party members), that by the time the prompts came up I had done almost everything in the game and explored a solid chunk of the map. It's the Reason Bravely Default/Second is one of my favourite games due to having such manipulation in, which makes exploration much less frustrating to deal with once you reach a certain threshold of levels on your team (and to choose when to grind your characters).

Ah ha! As always, this video is fantastic of yours, QG! Also... yeah, I'm Dragonite MGSX, though I'm not playing the RUclips game as of late... I'm happy just chilling in my own time on Discord nowadays... Eh he... But yeah! Thoughts time!
Number 9: Ah! that's fair enough... Me? I did kinda enjoy it, and I wasn't exactly aiming for a Pacifist... just somewhat Neutral with an added flavour of taking down anyone either foolish enough to bar my way (or ones I accidentally crash into because of FUCKING Joycon Drift at the time! ARGH!), and I did choose to go against all the main Bosses... I wasn't confident to fight the massive Koi, though... XD Also, yeah... Oborumaru ended up being my main character pick for the Final Stage... and you kinda missed a joke opportunity because Oborumaru is played by the same bloke who plays Seiji Shishikura from My Hero Academia! XD But yeah, epic Ninja.. and I love Ninjas! "NOW COME THE FIREFLIES!!"
Apologies... I kinda got that stuck in my head... As well as the other Oborumaru quotes...
Number 8: I actually like this Chapter... especially since I'm a HUGE Anime fan myself... though, yeah... I do kinda agree that Dr Tobei's little inspiration aspect can be like a shot in the dark, but honestly, I found him enjoyable and hilarious... and Akira was pretty cool, too! And if you're wondering... I nicknamed him Tetsuo as a nod to one of the characters from the film AKIRA. Oh, and crushing battleships with the Steel Titan was ALSO a blast! Eh he... Oh, and I did read one of the comments here saying that maybe that part did cut off because this part took place in the past and he woke up before we got him to finish his monologue story... Personally, I definitely think that he survived after the final battle, which... is definitely good.
Number 7: Hold on, I remember that voice somewhat from one of ProjectSNT's videos! And that one Edgar Allen Poe story... I don't remember the name very well, but I do know that it had "Cask" in the name... Lemme know in the comment section down below! Anyways... Yeah, that was a mighty fine crazy Chapter! And I do agree; the dialogue in this Chapter is almost hilariously BALLS-Y... much to the point where I laughed my ass off... Also, that end clip with that moment right there got me going! Fun fact... I actually struggled with getting the traps all sorted and had to fight a few of his minions... Managed to win the second time, but MAN... It was a NIGHTMARE!
Number 6: Oooh, noice! That's undoubtedly one of my favourite Chapters of this game because of the choice... and I personally do enjoy Martial Arts films, mainly Kung Fu Panda! And yes, my choice was Lei Kugo... though, why does her voice remind me of Princess Myne AKA BITCH from Rising of The Shield Hero?! Yeah... I DESPISE that traitorous succubus! Not her Voice Actress, though... I'm aware that Voice Actors are a LOT different compared to their characters! XD MOSTLY!
Also... Yup! I can still forever remember "Bested by this weakling...?!" as I just CRUSHED Odi Wan Lee! This is for killing the others, you monster!
Number 5: Ah, yes! That jazzy battle music I do dig myself personally! And yes, this was a nice, short but sweet Chapter... especially since I chose to play them in historical order! I've chosen to play this Chapter after I completed Twilight of Edo Japan, and it was a nice little break from sneaking away from foes... And oh yeah, there's a fun little secret on The Great Aja which I've seen and replicated... This can be done if you're at a specific spot and Aja uses Bite. You'll know that you've done right when you hear Aja spit during the attack... And then hilarity (and PAIN) ensues with Wantanabe's Dad yelling out and calling him a cheater, and then things go CHAOTIC! Best to watch for yourself! And yeah... This Chapter reminds me a lot of Rocky, so I have named him Markus Baoboa! I thought that it fits well! Also... Odie O'Bright...
He is an ABSOLUTE MADMAN!! And yeah, I was pretty much as furious as Masaru when he gleefully admitted his crime of murdering the other Fighters! God, I don't want to imagine something like THAT in, say... FREAKING POKEMON!!! HELL NO!!!!
Number 4: Ah ha! Okay, that got me with the Opening to this segment! And of course, that was a pretty nice and fun story... especially since it was pretty darn HILARIOUS!
Number 3: Oooh... Gotta say, this Chapter is almost shivery for me personally... It's creepy and effectively terrifying, to the point where I was playing a Video Game version of a Sci-Fi Horror story... And it also reminds me a bit of Corpse Party... Heck, I think this Chapter actually placed some groundwork for our more story-oriented non-combat RPGS...
Also, try playing this Chapter in the dark with headphones. You're welcome. :)
Oh, and THAT'S A BIT SUSSY!!!
Number 2: Oh... my... God. I gotta say, I knew partially what this Chapter is going to be like before I got it on my own little Switch... But MAN, what INSANITY I witnessed as I've played through this Chapter... First witnessing the sudden betrayal, then Streighbough's cruel plan which made me want to murder him, then Alicia's suicide and finally that unsettling speech of rage with Oersted... or as I called him in my game, Naofumi... because I thought that it'd fit.
Also, how fitting to quote the Joker during this segment... In Oersted's case... indeed, all it takes is one single bad day to ruin everything. And I especially love this build up to the Chapter, also... In some pretty clever, puzzle like hints, too...
And yeah, the music is EPIC! Especially Heroic Struggle and the rocking GUITAR! And I do agree, especially since I'm a fan of Shakespeare myself! I've even studied some Shakespeare during my time in one of my schools and the Inclusion Project!
Number 1: Ah, yes... This Chapter.
Eerie and lifeless, and... ya know, this Chapter reminds me a lot of the Planet's Paralysis from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky... And yeah. Armageddon is TERRIFYING!
Oh, and my team was Oborumaru as my leader, Lei Kugo, Akira and Sundown, which was pretty much an awesome little team up! And I have to say, I also enjoyed some of their Trials and I personally enjoyed the Final Battle... I still recall the intensity I felt throughout the whole Chapter!
Also, yeah... Oborumaru's speech to Oersted strangely resonated with me, given that it almost reminds me of what I believed... in mercy, not violence... And yup... You could say that speech cermented Stephen Fu as one of my favourite Anime Voice Actors! Ah ha!
One more thing before I go; I love this music... and the battle where the other Heroed all work together to take down Odio and also freeing Oersted from the darkness within.
And... Mmm-hmm... Best to keep in mind that warning... Evil can be a choice, not just something you're born with. Be careful of slipping down those slopes... Aight-o, Mystia out! Thanks for reading!

Thought; Live A Live should get a sequel! Hear me out: ten chapters, all new characters and new time periods.
Roman Empire - Gladiator: This would be kinda like the equivalent to Modern Day, with the difference being that there would be a bit of a management simulation aspect, and a bit of the option to go pacifist or genocide in either showing mercy or executing your defeated opponents.
Aztec - The Arrival of The Crusaders. You'd play as a young member of an Aztec tribe during the arrival of the conquistadors, whom you absolutely don't trust.
Pirate - A Pirate's dangerous quest to find a long rumored treasure. More open world.
Noir - A hard boiled detective investigating a murder and uncovering an enormous conspiracy in the 1930's. Much less combat focused, much more focused on interrogations.
Spy - A Cold War era spy on an undercover mission. Would play like the Obomaru part, but good.
Superhero - The present day section. Be playing as a superhero who joins a league of super humans.
Cyberpunk - Happening concurrently with far future in Live A Live 1, only back on earth, with this section being much more Phillip K Dick influenced, particularly Blade Runner, perhaps with a mission to kill certain targets.
Post Apocalyptic - The Last Days of Man - Very Mad Max influenced. In a world of warring tribes, one person seeks out an ancient power that could prevent the inevitable fall of humankind. This would be the first hidden chapter.
Final Chapter - This would essentially be the same thing as the Dominion Of Hate in terms of it being the uniting of all the heroes of their times to take down the evil that was introduced in the Post Apocalyptic chapter. Not Odio, and not the Dominion of Hate, something new, with a new theme, but I'm not being paid to write for SquareEnix, so I'll leave it to comments underneath.
You may notice that I have only listed nine. That's because I want to hear some of YOUR ideas in the comments underneath this, and some of what you do and don't like in this, and how you'd handle the scenarios if you wrote them.

I don't think figuring out the Pacifist route in the Twilight Edo Japan isn't TOO tough to figure out. I think a lot of players on their first run attempt Pacifist runs, so they are bogged down by what to do instead of just going for the goal. There's an instance of bad design in that route, (aside from the free exp which ruins most of the incentives to kill aside from getting Genocide) though, so it isn't perfect.
Genocide route, though... yeah, I agree wholeheartedly.

I accidentally "softlocked" myself by grabbing the Mammet while only having 3 Koban... the only way out from there (if you don't have a fourth Koban) is to fall and break it, therefore ruining the pacifist run.
Maybe if they put objective flags in those locations as well, it would be less likely to softlock? I still get lost sometimes, and I've beaten it a good few times over...

Oh, and one thing you missed out and the best in Dominion of Hate. You think you're done with just finishing with one hero? Replay that again with a different hero and why Oersted fails. Each hero has their own message against Oersted, all unique and representing how they overcome their flaws. Even each Earthen Heart successors have their OWN lines (So... yeah, good luck re-picking your students...) Finding out each messages without a guide will be a blast for those non-guide seekers.
